1 of 8 5/10/201 6:12 PM The_Still_Small_Voice(5-8-1) The Still Small Voice Wednesday, May 8, 201 The Bible Ps 29:4,11 4 11 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace. Gen 2:-4 (to ;),5-7 I have sent (to ;),24-26,29-0 And he 4 And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom. And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight. 6 7 24 25 26 And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him. Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands; And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. 0 And Jacob called the name of the place Pĕn -ĭ-ĕl: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. Ex :1-6 (to 1st.),10 1 NOW Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
2 of 8 5/10/201 6:12 PM 2 4 5 6 10 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Phâr -āōh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. Ex 4:1,6-8 1 6 7 8 AND Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee. And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow. And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh. And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign. I Kings 19:1-,9-12 1 2 9 AND Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to-morrow about this time. And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there. And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
of 8 5/10/201 6:12 PM 10 11 12 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. John 12:2,27-0,7,8,44-47,49,50 2 27 28 29 0 7 8 44 45 46 47 49 50 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: That the saying of Ē-ṡáì -ăs the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
4 of 8 5/10/201 6:12 PM Deut 5:24 Behold Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy 2:9-11 Christ Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. The Son of God 67:24-27 27 The infinite Truth of the Christ-cure has come to this age through a still, small voice, through silent utterances and divine anointing which quicken and increase the beneficial effects of Christianity. 559:8-12 9 12 The still, small voice of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe s remotest bound. The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, as when a lion roareth. It is heard in the desert and in dark places of fear. 21:0-214:1 Before human knowledge dipped to its depths into a false sense of things, into belief in material origins which discard the one Mind and true source of being, it is possible that the impressions from Truth were as distinct as sound, and that they came as sound to the primitive prophets. 21:19 24 27 0 22:1 21 It was scientifically demonstrated that leprosy was a creation of mortal mind and not a condition of matter, when Moses first put his hand into his bosom Leprosy healed
5 of 8 5/10/201 6:12 PM and drew it forth white as snow with the dread disease, and presently restored his hand to its natural condition by the same simple process. God had lessened Moses fear by this proof in divine Science, and the inward voice became to him the voice of God, which said: It shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign. And so it was in the coming centuries, when the Science of being was demonstrated by Jesus, who showed his students the power of Mind by changing water into wine, and taught them how to handle serpents unharmed, to heal the sick and cast out evils in proof of the supremacy of Mind. 08:14-2 15 18 21 The Soul-inspired patriarchs heard the voice of Truth, and talked with God as consciously as man talks with man. Jacob was alone, wrestling with error, struggling with a mortal sense of life, substance, and intelligence as existent in matter with its false pleasures and pains, when an angel, a message from Truth and Love, appeared to him and smote the sinew, or strength, of his error, till he saw its unreality; and Truth, being thereby understood, gave him spiritual strength in this Peniel of divine Science. Wrestling of Jacob 284:15-2 18 21 585: Can Deity be known through the material senses? Can the material senses, which receive no direct evidence of Spirit, give correct testimony as to spiritual life, truth, and love? The answer to all these questions must forever be in the negative. The physical senses can obtain no proof of God. They can neither see Spirit through the eye nor hear it through the ear, nor can they feel, taste, or smell Spirit. Our physical insensibility to Spirit Jesus said, referring to spiritual perception, Having ears, hear ye not? (Mark viii. 18.)
6 of 8 5/10/201 6:12 PM 255:18 (only) Eye hath not seen Spirit, nor hath ear heard His voice. 21:16 18 Sound is a mental impression made on mortal belief. The ear does not really hear. Divine Science reveals sound as communicated through the senses of Soul through spiritual understanding. 214: If the medium of hearing is wholly spiritual, it is normal and indestructible. 486:2 24 27 0 487:1 Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are eternal. They cannot be lost. Their reality and immortality are in Spirit and understanding, not in matter, hence their permanence. If this were not so, man would be speedily annihilated. If the five corporeal senses were the medium through which to understand God, then palsy, blindness, and deafness would place man in a terrible situation, where he would be like those having no hope, and without God in the world; but as a matter of fact, these calamities often drive mortals to seek and to find a higher sense of happiness and existence. Permanent sensibility 50:16 18 21 The Master often refused to explain his words, because it was difficult in a material age to apprehend spiritual Truth. He said: This people s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. 298:4
7 of 8 5/10/201 6:12 PM As a cloud hides the sun it cannot extinguish, so false belief silences for a while the voice of immutable harmony, but false belief cannot destroy Science armed with faith, hope, and fruition. 487:6 9 12 There is more Christianity in seeing and hearing spiritually than materially. There is more Science in the perpetual exercise of the Mind-faculties than in their loss. Lost they cannot be, while Mind remains. The apprehension of this gave sight to the blind and hearing to the deaf centuries ago, and it will repeat the wonder. 458:2-459:1 Christianity causes men to turn naturally from matter to Spirit, as the flower turns from darkness to light. Man then appropriates those things which eye hath not seen nor ear heard. Advancement by sacrifice 46:7 9 12 The divine Spirit, which identified Jesus thus centuries ago, has spoken through the inspired Word and will speak through it in every age and clime. It is revealed to the receptive heart, and is again seen casting out evil and healing the sick. 2:28-5 0 24:1 The effects of Christian Science are not so much seen as felt. It is the still, small voice of Truth uttering itself. We are either turning away from this utterance, or we are listening to it and going up higher. Willingness to become as a little child and to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of the advanced idea. Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear, this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony. The purification of sense and self is a proof of progress. Childlike receptivity

If sent, how shall they preach, convert, and heal multitudes, except the people hear? 42:21-26 24 Christian Science awakens the sinner, reclaims the infidel, and raises from the couch of pain the helpless invalid. It speaks to the dumb the words of Truth, and they answer with rejoicing. It causes the deaf to hear, the lame to walk, and the blind to see.
