Celebrate Doing More, Together Pastor Eric Zacharias 14745 Co. Rd. 153 Cologne, MN 55322 December 2017 Rev. Eric Zacharias Pastor Home: 952-466-2123 Mr. Chris Dehning Principal Office: 952-466-3379 Church/School Office Phone: 952-466-3379 Fax: 952-466-2703 E-mail: leahjanzenzion@gmail.com Website: www.zion-cologne.org Mission Statement Zion Lutheran Church, Cologne, MN is a branch of Christ s family saved by grace alone, rooted in God s love, and growing in faith through worship, teaching, fellowship, and service as we reach out to others with the good news of Jesus. It s foolish trying to do everything all by yourself! Two or more get things done much more quickly and efficiently. That s why I love the events that are done at Zion. Everyone comes and pitches in; when the day arrives, people are there to serve. It doesn t happen by accident. A lot of good people spend many hours and a lot of effort setting things in motion. Working together is a gamechanger! That s why we encourage people to be at Church on December 3, as we have worship, followed by a good-old-fashioned potluck dinner, enjoying the good food and fellowship of one another. ALSO, on that day we will explain how you can direct lead an action team to support ministries or efforts that are important to you. The program is part of Thrivent Financial, a Christian insurance and investment company, which allows you to support charitable works in the church and community with cards worth $250. An example: Last year one action team used their card to purchase candy for Zion s children Christmas bags! Those who hold Thrivent products are able to designate TWO action team events of their choice. You can also be made an Associate, which allows you to designate ONE action team event. A table will be set up in the narthex to help you to understand and activate your account. Congregation Christmas Potluck will be December 3 following the church service. The theme this year is snow globes. If you have any globes you would like to display, we would be happy to display them. Please bring them to the church meeting room by December 2nd. The Annual Christmas Cookie Sale is December 10th after church. All Ladies Aid/LWML members are asked to contribute six dozen cookies for the sale. Your cookies may be brought to the kitchen on Saturday, December 9th from 9-11 AM. Congregation members are also invited to bake cookies for the sale, if they wish. In Christ, Pastor Eric Zacharias

Ladies Aid/LWML LWML/Ladies Aid November 2, 2017 Meeting Minutes Zion Ladies Aid/LWML met on November 2 nd with 11 members present. The meeting was opened with a devotion given by Darlene Leistiko entitled A New Season in Christ. Pastor Zacharias led us in a discussion from the Quarterly entitled A Chancy Thing, which was an article about Katie and Martin Luther. We also saw a video showing history of Luther s time in the monastery. A lively discussion was held on this enjoyable topic. The meeting was called to order by President Juliene and the LWML pledge was recited. The minutes and financial reports were read, with a motion to accept them. The financial report will be filed for audit. Several items of correspondence were read. We had requests from Trinity First, American Bible Society, Lutheran Bible Translators, Feed My Starving Children, the LCMS and Como Zoo. A thank you was received from our gift of $100 for the LCMS Hurricane Relief. The Mite donation chosen for November was the Lutheran Hour. There were no reports from Christian Growth nor the Funeral Committee. The Flower Committee bought new garland for the church and the Ladies Aid will give $200 to pay for this. We are in need of a representative for Christian Growth, but will leave the current ladies serving as it is for now. Bev Eggers will serve as President, and Juliene Klaustermeier will serve as Vice President in 2018. The Congregational Potluck will be held Dec. 3 rd with snow globes as the themed displays. The aid will purchase plates and paper products. The officers will serve for the potluck. The annual cookie sale will be held Dec. 10th, and each member is asked to bring 6 dozen cookies. We will also be baking cookies with Thrivent funds as last year. We are still working to provide cards for the college students and not all families have yet responded with their addresses. Christmas Cards for the shut-ins will be obtained and we will all sign them. We are gathering materials for quilt making into 2018. No birthday hymns were sung this night. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made, seconded and carried. Darlene Leistiko served as our hostess. The Executive committee met to plan the program book for 2018 following the meeting. Respectfully submitted, Mary Zacharias Organization Notes Annual Christmas Cookie Sale and Congregation Potluck The congregation potluck will be held December 3 rd following the church service. The theme this year is snow globes. If you have any globes you would like to display, we would be happy to display them. Please drop them off in the meeting room by December 2 nd. The Zion Ladies Aid/LWML is hosting its annual Christmas Cookie Sale on December 10 th following the church service. All Ladies Aid/LWML members are asked to contribute six dozen cookies for the sale. Your cookies may be brought to the kitchen on Saturday, December 9 th from 9-11 AM. Congregation members are also invited to bake cookies for the sale, if they wish.

Tiger Tales January was a fun month of school--national Lutheran Schools Week was pretty cool! Went to Feed My Starving Children and even a trampoline park--the whipped cream they aimed at the principal, hit its mark! February saw the heart of basketball season-- Students played citing love of the game as their reason! The team didn t have a whole lot of success--perhaps we should take up chess? (just kidding) March had an important school fundraiser on its first Sunday!--The auction and pancake breakfast, hooray! Up for sale are all sorts of neat things. You never know what this event brings! April brought our Kindergarten-4 th grade Spring Production!--The set took a bit of construction! E-I-E-I-Oops was the title of the play--watching this was much better than attending a ballet! May was the end of the school year--students of course had to cheer! Teachers in a dunk tank and a track meet to run fast. Having Perk at Play Day was certainly a blast! June began some changes for how things at Zion are--luckily our teachers didn t have to move very far! Switching classrooms can sometimes be hard. Especially when the hallway looks like a junkyard July saw more changes and luckily some organization--these things happened thanks to a generous donation! New classroom furniture and an outdoor court--on which kids can play any sport! August had our teachers back ready to prepare- -The 1 st and 2 nd grade students even got a new type of chair! Almost ready for the school year to start--time to make all those students real smart Mr. Chris Dehning bus! Students got to go to a new class--but they all would rather play in the grass October was when we had our annual Trunk or Treat--All the goodies given out were very sweet! The colder weather forced almost everyone in from outside--tables for fun indoor trunks were then supplied! November saw the end of the volleyball games- -In that sport they play sets and matches, not frames! Last year our girls won the overall championship--if we had repeated this year, then maybe sponsorship? December has everyone excited for Christmas- -Wisconsin s capital is actually located on an isthmus! Yes, that is indeed a real word; I checked--come to our program Christmas Eve night, it should be perfect! 1 st Quarter Honor Rolls Principal s List: Chloe Daugaard, Maggie Janzen, Ainsley Mosley, Hollynn Mosley, Owen Rodman High Honor Roll: Addison Dietzel, Brooke Sauter, Sophia Morschen, Brooke Moen, Sam Dose Zion s Christmas Eve Service The joy & beauty of Christmas is not in the presents but in his presence. Celebrate Jesus this Christmas by giving your most precious possessions. They may not be what you think. The toys and gadgets and slippers and gift cards are no the gifts Jesus desires. He wants something more so much more. September brought our students back to us-- Parents dropped off some, the rest came by
