Marks (to be entered by Teacher) Punctuality Neatness Answers Sub- GRAND Bonus/Prize TOTAL Make sure your name and address are written here. Name Address Age Date of Birth Class Teacherʼs Name Lesson No. Being a Christian - Learning about prayer level 4 Read Luke : -0 Matthew 6: - Bible Studies In the New Testament Suggested Further Reading Luke 8: -4 Timothy : -6 Philippians 4: 6 & 7 Key Verse Luke : 9 The Gospel of Luke records many of the occasions when the Lord Jesus prayed. He is the greatest example of a man of prayer. Therefore, all Christians should follow the example of the Lord Jesus and spend time talking with God in prayer. What did the disciples ask the Lord Jesus when He had finished praying? We may ask ourselves, What is prayer? Write out your own definition of prayer. It is important to note to WHOM we are praying. We can only speak to God as our Father, when we have trusted in the Lord Jesus to forgive us our sins. Then, we become members of God s family and God becomes our Father. The prayer that the Lord Jesus taught His disciples, wasn t just for us to repeat, but to be used as a pattern, teaching us WHAT to pray for and WHAT is involved when we talk to God. CROSSWORD Down. God s name is to be hallowed or kept.. We should ask for forgiveness for these. 4. To Whom we should pray. 4 Across. What we should do to those who have wronged us.. How often should we ask for food? Bibletime

Lesson Some people pray only when things go wrong. Others think of prayer as simply asking God for the things they need. Unscramble the letters to complete the following words to discover what prayer really consists of:- ODRA OSSFEN AHSKN PUP RETN A T I O N This means praising God for His love and goodness. C I O N This means admitting our sins to God. T G I V I N G This means being grateful for what God has given us. S L I C A T I O N This means asking God for specific needs. I C E S S I O N This means asking for God s help on the behalf of others. Now let s look at HOW and WHERE we should talk to God. Turn back to Matthew 6 to see what the Lord Jesus taught. Answer TRUE or FALSE to the following statements:- Prayer should be in private, alone with God. Prayer should consist of repetitive phrases. Prayer should be made with a humble spirit, seeking to receive God s reward and not men s praise. What does Matthew 6: 8 teach us about the God to whom we pray? In the Bible Reading in Luke we are also taught that we need to be persistent and regular in our praying. Write out the Key Verse which encourages us not to give up praying. Never forget that we can pray AT ANY TIME and IN ANY PLACE. Write down the places where these three men prayed. JONAH (Jonah : ) SILAS (Acts 6: 4 & ) PETER (Acts 0: 9) What extra discoveries have you made about prayer in this study? For teacher s remarks 0

Lesson Lesson No. Being a Christian - Learning about the Bible Read Acts 7: 0-4 Timothy : 4-7 Suggested Further Reading Psalm Acts 8: 4-8 Peter : - James : - Key Verse Psalm 9: 0 Please put your name here One of the main ways we can learn about God is to read and study His Word, the Bible, sometimes called the Holy Scriptures. Write out the Key Verse and UNDERLINE the words which show us what God s Word can do for us. Look up Acts 7: 0- and answer each question IN YOUR OWN WORDS.. How did they receive God s Word?. How often did they search the Scriptures?. Why did they search the Scriptures?... What was the result of their searching the Scriptures and which verse tells us this? Verse It is important to give time to reading the Bible. Like the Bereans, we need to put time and effort into understanding what we read. To help you form a habit of reading a part of the Bible each day, why not use daily ʻBible Reading Notesʼ? For further information contact the address at the back. Who stayed behind in Berea when Paul was forced to leave? and The second Bible Reading was written to one of these men. Paul wrote to him about the importance of God s Word. How long had he known the Holy Scriptures?

Lesson According to Timothy : 6, what benefits can we get from the Scriptures?... 4. Look at Timothy : 7 and write IN YOUR OWN WORDS the result of studying the Scriptures. Let us learn about two men, one from the Old Testament and the other from the New Testament, who both valued and studied God s Word. Read Ezra 7: 0. Ezra studied the Law (part of the Old Testament). What else did he do?.. Ezra took time to get to know the Word of God. He is a good example for us to follow. Read Acts 8: 4-8. Who came to Ephesus and taught the Scriptures? In verse 6, he was willing to receive help and encouragement from other Christians. We never get to a point where we know everything about God s Word. We must always be willing to learn more! Look at verse 8. What was one result of his willingness to learn more about the Scriptures from others? If the Word of God is really going to help us, we must remember an important point in James : -. Write out verse and UNDERLINE the part of the verse which tells us that something more than hearing the word is necessary. Why not set yourself the target of reading part of the Bible every day? Ask God to help you to put into practice the things you learn from it! For teacher s remarks 0

Lesson No. Being a Christian - Living for God Suggested Further Reading Galatians : 6-4 Romans 6: 0- Read Key Verse Lesson John : -7 Galatians : & John : Please put your name here Gardeners usually prune their roses at the end of winter. If you have ever watched them, you may have thought they were very harsh. For, when they have finished, there doesn t seem to be much left! Yet in the summer, those same bushes will produce much growth and have many beautiful flowers. This reminds us that our lives should be like plants. As plants produce beautiful flowers, so we, in our lives, should produce characteristics of the Lord Jesus. Look at verses - and fill in the verse number below each picture. The Father Verse The fruitful Christian Verse The unfruitful Christian Verse Write out the Key Verse and UNDERLINE the part of the verse which tells us the secret of a fruitful Christian life. Find in verses and 7 something which is important for a Christian s spiritual growth. Write it in the box. Look up Timothy : 6 and write a brief summary, IN YOUR OWN WORDS, of the value of God s Word for the Christian s life. Look carefully at the first Bible Reading and write down how we can show the Lord Jesus that we are His friends.

Lesson For Christians to grow, they must enjoy a close relationship with the Lord Jesus. This means taking note of His words and obeying them. What two results do Christians experience, when they do this? (See verses 0 &.).. Now turn to Galatians : &. When Christians allow the Holy Spirit, who dwells in them, to produce the character of the Lord Jesus in their lives, they become like Him. Here are nine qualities of the Lord Jesus which should be seen in the lives of all Christians, proving that they really belong to Him. Write them on the grapes. Look again at John : -8, and write down the number of the verse which teaches us why we should bear much fruit. Verse Write out Colossians : 0. Make this prayer your own, as you seek to live a life that displays the character of the Lord Jesus. Remember, the fruitfulness of the vine depends upon the hidden flow of life through the branches. Jesus said, I am the true Vine. Our lives can only be fruitful for Him if we are joined to Him, as a branch is joined to the vine. We become part of the Vine, when we receive Him as our Lord and Saviour. Only then can we begin to live lives which are fruitful for God. For teacher s remarks 0

Lesson No. 4 Being a Christian - Giving to God Suggested Further Reading Corinthians 6: & Corinthians 8: -9 & 9: - Read Key Verse Lesson 4 Mark : 4-44 Matthew 6: - 4 Corinthians 9: 7 Please put your name here The last of the studies concerns giving. How much should we give? How often should we give? How should we give? Look up Acts 0: and write out what Paul said the Lord Jesus taught about giving. According to Mark : 4-44, whom did Jesus use to teach the disciples a lesson? WORD PUZZLE. How many coins did she put in?. Who gave much?. According to Jesus, how much had she given? 4. Find a word, used twice, to describe her.. The treasury contained this. E S U 4 Write IN YOUR OWN WORDS why Jesus said that she had given more than all the others put together. What have you learned about giving from this incident? The Lord Jesus saw her and knew her heart! He noticed what was LEFT rather than what had been GIVEN! Is our giving a real sacrifice? Often we do not have the right motive when we give to God. Write out the Key Verse and UNDERLINE the words which show what our attitude to giving should be.

Lesson 4 In Matthew 6: -4 we learn more of the teaching of the Lord Jesus about how to give.. What must we do in secret?. Why should we do this act in secret?. Whom must we not imitate in our giving? 4. In what way did the Lord Jesus say we should give help to others?... 4. In this set of studies, we have read about something else which should be done in secret. What is it? 4 We should not think that giving is limited to money, or acts of kindness. It may also refer to our time or our abilities. Look at Corinthians 8: -. Read these verses carefully and write out what these Christians gave to the Lord BEFORE they gave help to other Christians and churches. The Lord Jesus Christ gave Himself for us when He died on the cross. When we realize this, the least we can do is to give ourselves to Him. Write out Corinthians 9: and then ask yourself the question, As God has given me such a Gift, what should I give Him in return?
