INFORMATION AND JOB PROFIL Pastor of vangelism & Mission

Dear Candidate Thank you so much for your interest in this particular post. St John s is at an exciting time in its journey, and we are looking to make a senior appointment to enable us to be faithful to what we believe God is calling us to be and do. As a large and thriving fellowship, we have many different ministries both within and beyond the church family, with a number of them being outward focussed. There is a growing sense of anticipation at what God is preparing us for. Our Staff Team has recently expanded. We have also just agreed to initiate an Intern Programme, and we are in the early stages of the process to expand and refurbish our main church plant all in their own ways aimed to help equip us for our future mission. We are looking now for someone with vision, experience, passion and gifting to help in the equipping of the saints at St John s in mission and evangelism, and to model some of this for us. While we want such a ministry to cover our whole church family, we see our 18 to 35 year olds as being particularly strategic in this next phase of our journey together. Our prayer is that as you look at the details below, if you are the person God is calling to journey with us, you will have growing sense and excitement and vision for that ministry here, and that this will be confirmed to you and to us as we meet and share and pray together. We are a community ever thankful for the grace God has shown us, and we look to his love and mercy, and to his empowering and sustaining presence, as we seek to bring the Good News of Jesus to the community of Harborne, Birmingham and beyond. If you would like to talk informally, I would be very happy to chat with you. I can be contacted via the Church Office or you can email me directly leonardbrowne@stjohns-church.co.uk ABOUT ST JOHN S. We are a large evangelical, charismatic church set in a suburban area of south-west Birmingham. We have a gifted, creative and committed multigenerational church family who love to worship God. We have a strong commitment to base our lives on the teaching and authority of the Bible and an openness to the renewing work of the Holy Spirit. A recent survey of our congregation revealed a desire to be more purposeful and effective in evangelism and outreach to our community and beyond. The church, known as St John s, sits on the southern edge of the parish. The High Street has four supermarkets, local shops, charity shops, banks, estate agents and several pubs, coffee shops and restaurants. Once a month, the parade area of the High Street becomes a farmers market.

(provided by www.openstreetview.org.uk) Other amenities within the parish include a popular primary school, two secondary schools, a library, a police station and three large complexes of warden-controlled housing for older people. There is a re-developed and well used swimming pool and gym. The parish is largely residential with no manufacturing industry. Sunday Currently we have three services on a Sunday: at 9.15am, 11.15am and 6.30pm (except in August when we have one morning service at 10am and an evening service at 6.30pm.) We celebrate communion at either a morning or evening service each week. Average size of congregations is indicated below. 9.15am Morning Worship/Communion (200 adults and 125 children) A lively service which runs alongside five age specific children s groups and a Pathfinder group in term time. During school holidays and on the first Sunday of the month this becomes an all-age service. The 9.15am service is the most popular for families. 11.15am Morning Worship/Communion (90 adults) A service which is rather quieter in nature and attended by a somewhat higher proportion of older church members. 6.30pm - vening worship/communion (180 adults) This service is most favoured by youth, students and young adults. Once a month we have a less structured service called Open where more space is provided to hear from one another what God is saying and doing in our lives. Midweek Service (3 rd Thursday) 10.30am Communion (60 adults) On the third Thursday of the month. A more reflective service particularly appreciated by some church members and an increasing number of older people from the local community.
