Help us properly welcome you today! * As a courtesy to others, please silence cell phones. * Gathering Prelude O Christ, the Healer Johann Pachelbel Our worship begins with the prelude. Let the power of the music speak to you of God s glory; let its quietness tell you of God s peace; let its beauty lift your heart in prayer. Greeting and Welcome Please sign the Opportunity for Friendship Register and pass it to the person next to you. Opening Prayer Call to Worship Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion Which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem So the Lord surrounds us. Let us worship the Lord! (8:30) Jay Youmans (11:00) Phyllis Schmid Hymn 618 O Love, How Deep, How Broad, How High DEO GRACIAS Call to Reconciliation with God (please be seated) Let us confess our sins to the Lord who surrounds us with favor forevermore. Silent Confession Kyrie 604 Lamb of God AGNUS DEI (Farlee) Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; grant us peace; grant us peace. Please stand if you are able.

Unison Prayer of Confession God of favor, we have not been true to you. You have chosen the poor in the world, but we have dishonored them. You plead the cause of the afflicted, but we crush them. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have favored the rich and despised the poor. We have dismissed the needy with empty words. Soften our hearts and make straight our ways. Heal our unbelief and turn us back to you. Amen. Words of Life The mercy of our God triumphs over judgment through our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, who has pleaded our case, forgiven our sin, healed our sickness, and delivered us from evil. Praise be to God. Amen. Gloria Patri hymn 1 (stanza 1) Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty! NICAEA Passing of the Peace The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. Let us share a sign of the peace of Christ with one another. Prayer for Illumination The Word Reading from the Epistles James 2:1-17 Anthem (8:30) If Thou but Suffer God to Guide Thee Jody Lindh Chancel Choir If thou but suffer God to guide thee, and hope in Him through all thy ways, He ll give thee strength, whate er betide thee, and bear thee through the evil days. Who trusts in God s unchanging love builds on the Rock that naught can move. Only be still and wait His leisure in cheerful hope, with heart content to take whate er thy Father s pleasure and all discerning love hath sent; nor doubt our inmost wants are known to Him who chose us for His own. Sing, pray, and keep His ways unswerving; in all thy labor faithful be, and trust His Word. Though undeserving, Thou yet shalt find it true for thee, God never yet forsook in need the soul that trusts in Him indeed. 1971 Concordia Publishing House. All rights reserved. Reading from the Gospels Mark 7:31-37 This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Alleluia Message Fulfilling Isaiah Rev. T. J. Parlette A moment for reflection may God continue to speak to us in the silence. Our Response Hymn 793 O Christ, the Healer ERHALT UNS, HERR Affirmation of Faith Bruce D. Prewer I believe in an innovative God, who does not wait for us to find ourselves but comes seeking the lost and calling us into a new way. I believe in Jesus of Nazareth as God s crucial initiative, that when he calls us to follow, Christ also gives us the power to become, both in creed and deed, the children of the living God. I believe in the Spirit by whom Jesus still comes to us, calling us to follow him into an obedience which is true liberty and to a humble service which is the fruit of holy friendship. I believe in the church as the fellowship of Christ s people, called to respect and support one another through joys and tribulations as we travel the road towards the promised land of God s future. Because Christ has called me, in this I truly believe. Amen. Prayers of the People and Lord s Prayer (use debts and debtors ) Offertory At the Offertory (8:30) Be Not Afraid (based on Isaiah 43:1-7) Taylor Davis Chancel Choir Be not afraid, for I have redeemed you. Be not afraid, I ve called you by name. My love for you is everlasting; my love for you shall have no end. When you pass through the waters, I will surround you. When you pass through the floods, they will not sweep o er. When you walk through the fire, you will not be consumed. You are my child, you are precious to me. You are my child, and I ll love you always. Just hold my hand, and I ll lead you home. When you feel lost, always remember: I am right here, just call out my name. 2003 Choristers Guild.
