The Messenger Month at a Glance Sunday, July 02 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 PAGE 1 5:00 p.m. F-3 Youth Night Tuesday, July 04 Independence Day As I write this article, Vacation Bible School is taking place this week at Zion. It s been a smaller group of families and children this year but to offset that, there are several participating who are not members of Zion although some have a connection to our preschool. It s been fun to see them engaged in the activities each night as we learn about individuals from the Bible who Fully Relied On God (that is to say, they were FROGgers). While I don t know at this point whether or not any of these families have a church home, we pray that the events of this week will (if nothing more) reflect well to the community- 9:00 a.m. Ladies Circle at-large on Zion and what Thursday, July 06 we re about namely, the 6:00 p.m. Elder s Meeting Lord s work of telling others Saturday, July 08 about Jesus and loving our 11:00 a.m. Baby Shower for Hannah neighbor in His name. Each Nunnenkamp-Engelman evening they ve been hearing @ First Baptist a story about someone from Sunday, July 09 the Bible in some form or 6:00 p.m. Board s Meeting another and then that is reinforced through music, 7:00 p.m. Council Meeting crafts, games and the like. 3:00 p.m. Ordination & Installation The individuals they have at St. Paul s Coffeyville learned about are Noah; Thursday, July 13 Shadrach, Meshach and 7:00 p.m. Mary & Martha Meeting Abednego (the 3 men in the Sunday, July 30 story of the fiery furnace); Noon Pot Luck Dinner followed Moses; and Peter by Voter s Assembly (when he walks on *************************************************** water). All great Thursdays s Pastor s Bible Study @ examples of how 11:00 a.m. Country Place Living to Fully Rely On 2:00 p.m. Guest Homes II God no matter the circumstances a lesson we Saturday s continually 9:00 - Noon Recycling Center need to learn. continued on page 2 ATTENDANCE AND GIVING IN JUNE 2017 8:30 a.m. 11:00 a.m. Sunday School Offering June 04 36 20 No Report 6824 June 11 34 29 No Report 2710 June 18 39 21 No Report 3497 June 25 44 33 No Report 2697

In conjunction with the stories are Bible verses that everyone is encouraged to learn. The verse at the beginning of this article is the one chosen for the night we looked at Moses. What great faith it took to do all the things that He did to follow God and lead His people. It must not have been easy especially with those Children of Israel who were such constant whiners and complainers. I learned from my sister who lives out in Oregon that their VBS is going on at the same time. She shared that there are two little boys who have never been to church or heard a Bible story before. Their parents are atheists but a great aunt (in her 70 s) persuaded them to let the boys go if she would accompany them and so for a week they are hearing about Jesus. May the Holy Spirit use this opportunity to plant seeds of faith and change lives. Put it in your prayers once you ve read this. At the top of this page is a logo emphasizing the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. As I ve stated in worship, 2017 is a big year for the Lutheran Church and for that matter, Protestants of all ilks! And, as emphasized in that logo it s all about Jesus! We can thank the Lord that the message of the Gospel, which had become obscured in the legalistic overtones of the church of the Middle Ages was once more brought to light. May we always, by God s grace, live our lives reflecting that it really is all about Him whether it's in a Vacation Bible School activity, going about the tasks of our jobs, or talking with our family or friends. Let s get the Word out! In fact, as you consider the people you ll encounter during the day, ask yourself how many of them that you see, know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. You can t really know unless you ask them but when you think about the fact that Jesus died for all of them, and that their lives matter as much as yours to Him, you may begin to wonder how many of them really know about His love. It's all about Jesus and He s given you the call as His child to join Him on His mission. We also had some of our ladies travel this past week to attend the Lutheran Women s Missionary League conference in Albuquerque. The LWML also celebrates a big anniversary this year 75 and what a blessing they ve been to the LCMS. Be sure to ask Elaine Engelman or Kathy Thorsell about their experience. This past month our congregation turned 74 years old. That means that we have a big celebration of our own to consider next year. But no matter how we celebrate it, that will pale in comparison to what is taking place in heaven when God s children safely arrive from this vale of tears. We will make the most of it here, though, and ask God s blessings for another 575 years (and more) as we serve others in His name. It s all about Jesus! Working until the day is done, Pastor Dan <>< PAGE 2

S T E W A R D S H I P B O A RD All things work for good for those who love God. (Romans 8:28) VBS Reunion A second VBS Reunion was held on Saturday, June 10th from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Chanute Swimming Pool. Everyone who attended had a great time and fellowship with one another. Ladies Circle Will meet on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in the church Fellowship Hall. Yes, this is a holiday, but it was decided at the June meeting that most events were later in the day. Any woman who is a member of Zion is invited to attend. Roll call will be your favorite patriotic song. The meeting will begin with refreshments by hostess, Betty Stich. The Devotion will be by Elaine Engelman and Catherine Thorsell will give her report on the 37th LSML Convention held in Albuquerque, New Mexico June 22-25, 2017. Kansans for Life Baby Bottle Fundraiser Sunday, May 14, Mother s Day, we started to participate in a fundraiser for Kansans for Life. Baby bottles were handed out and it was asked that they be filled, partly filled, check or cash. We are extending the deadline to return the bottles for a couple more weeks. So, please pick up an empty bottle and return your baby bottle to the church office by the July14, 2017. St. Paul s Lutheran Church in Coffeyville We have been asked us to share in the service of Ordination and Installation of the Rev. Tony fields and to meet his family on Sunday, July, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. A dinner reception will follow. They are also having an Organ Dedication Concert followed by a dessert bar on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. The address of the church is 506 West Ninth, Coffeyville, Kansas FULLY RELY ON GOD Vacation Bible School for 2017 is over, but the memories will stay with us. By watching Noah, the three men in the fiery furnace, Moses and Peter we learned how they Fully Relied On God. We learned that we too can rely on Him at all times in big things and small things. We did three service projects to help children in need, the homeless and missionaries to spread God s love. The music was fantastic and fun to sing and dance along with and the snacks were delicious. We had over 25 children, most without connections with Zion and over 30 volunteers. A tremendous Thank You to all who helped make this a great week for everyone! We could not have done it without you! SONshine Preschool The Board of Education would like to welcome Samantha James as the new Director/Teacher. Jessica Audiss will become the new 2nd Lead Teacher. We are all very excited about next school year. Enrollment is now taking place. Applications are available in the church office. We still have openings for a Teacher s Assistant and substitutes. If you or someone you know is interested you can pick up an application in the church office. Mary & Martha (M&M s) The ladies will meet Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. PAGE 3
