Zion Lutheran Church and School Welcome to Zion! We re excited to have you with us worshiping our Lord together! It s our prayer that you experience the love of Jesus in a deep and meaningful way. Word and Sacrament In an effort to provide congregational fellowship prior to Lent services, as well as an opportunity for youth to serve and allow them time to attend service, the youth group will still be preparing and providing food on Wednesdays during Lent. However, instead of a full meal, we will offer appetizers, snacks and desserts, as well as iced tea and water. This Wednesday s menu is Nacho bar, veggies and ranch dip, chips and dip and a variety of desserts. We are still collecting a free will donation each night to help defray costs to our youth for the 2019 National Youth Gathering. Thank you for your continued and unwavering support! Our Lenten Bible Breakfast series on The Salutary Gift comes to a close this Wednesday, March 21, at the Eagle s Nest Restaurant in Bethalto at 9 a.m. Seminarian Tim Roggow will lead the devotional topic Nuptial Feast. Plan to join with members of Concordia, St. Peters, and St. Paul for an hour of worship and fellowship. Good Friday Service: If anyone is interested in being a candle holder for the Good Friday service, please contact Carol Deist at 465-7026 or 541-8182. Easter Sunrise Service will begin in the cemetery this year and we will then proceed into the church for the rest of the service. Easter Egg & Candy Donations Needed! We are in need of a few dozen Easter eggs as well as about 250 pieces of candy to fill the eggs (individually wrapped). All donations can be placed in the donation drawer labeled Sunday School. Please have donations in no later than Wednesday, March 28. Thank you! Easter Egg Hunt will be Sunday, April 1, 9 10 a.m. (Sunday School hour) at Zion School for Preschool through 4 th grade. Jr. High (5 th 8 th grades) will help hide eggs. Bags will be provided and children can meet in the school gym. See you then! Our Junior 1 campers (3 & 4 year olds) don t go on field trips but will have many fun things planned for them. Summer Camp will run from May 29 August 3. Registration materials will be available very soon so be watching! Summer Camp is open to all children ages 3-having completed 6 th grade. We welcome kids from the public schools in the area and from Zion or other parochial schools. Summer Camp Bus Driver Needed. We will again appreciate your donations of flowers as a memorial, in praise and thanksgiving, in observance of special remembrances, etc. The cost is $9.00 per plant, which can be paid in the church office. Please call 377-8314 to order your Easter lily. You may take the flowers home following the 11 a.m. service on Easter Sunday. The Rock Opera: The Leadership Team would like to know if there is any interest in bringing the Christian rock duo Lost and Found to Zion. Members of Zion may be familiar with Lost and Found as they routinely perform at the LCMS Youth Gathering. At the end of October, Lost and Found will be performing at a Lutheran church in St. Charles, MO, and the musicians have reached out to Zion to see if we might want to host a concert around that time frame. The cost is approximately $4,000, and funds would have to be raised by members who want to organize the event (ticket sales, sponsorships, etc.). If you are interested in organizing this event, please let Pastor Kale know, and he can give you the information that we have so far received. It s not too early to think about the Passion Play in 2020. Pastor Meyer and Pastor Mark have planned a trip to Israel then on to Germany for the Passion Play at Oberammergau. The dates and the trip are September 8-18, 2020, and the cost is $5099. In 2010, we were blessed with about 45 Zion members on that trip and we expect this trip to fill up quickly because of the combination of Israel and the Passion Play. This will be a trip to remember. The deadline for a $250 registration discount on the Croatia trip this coming October is March 30. Please contact either Pastor Mark or Pastor Willy if you are interested in this unique tour that highlights coastal scenery on the Adriatic Sea as well as ancient cities and medieval architecture. There are still brochures on the ledge outside the church offices. Alton Symphony Orchestra: Upcoming events: Sunday, April 15, 3 p.m. Amen ; Saturday, April 21, 7 p.m. A Foreign Flavor. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Concerts are held at Lewis and Clark College, Hatheway Cultural Center Auditorium. Dr. Judy Moss has ticket to sell. Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Livingston, IL, will hold fish fries again this year on Friday nights through March 23.
