Vacation Bible School 2017 July 24-28 9:00 a.m. Noon Gear up and imagine a world where curious kids become hands-on inventors and experience God the Ultimate Maker in new and wildly creative ways! Each day begins at Sound Wave Sing and Play where kids will sing, shout, praise, and pray and be introduced to a Bible story, Bible Buddies, and a daily theme. Then the kids will move with their crews to explore their daily Bible story, enjoy a snack at the Snack Factory, play sports and games at Game Makers, visit Imagination Station for crafts and activities, and learn about our mission this year. The crews will end their day at the Funshop Finale. Like gears in a machine, every part of Maker Fun Factory VBS works together to produce an experience that really connects kids with Jesus. Preschool kids will experience TinkerTots Preschool and enjoy many of the same activities but in an age appropriate setting. It takes A LOT of teens and adults to bring our VBS to life, so I hope you will consider saving one week in July to be involved in this awesome ministry for our children. Contact Dawn Ames at (248) 563-2399 or e-mail dawn.ames@lakeorionumc.org. Registration for children attending VBS will begin at the end of May. The registration form will be available on the church website, www.lakeorionumc.org and at the church. Our VBS will be a finely tuned engineering masterpiece that involves every member of the team and every experience will change kids lives forever! Page 4

PASSOVER SEDER MEAL On Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday) LOUMC will host a Passover Seder Meal. The Jewish Passover is what Jesus and his disciples celebrated at his last supper, and the imagery of Passover informs our Christian understanding of Easter. The word seder means order, and refers to the fact that the order of the Exodus story is recalled using the symbolic food items on the seder plate (see picture below). We will look at those symbols both in their original context, and with regard to what they mean for us as Christians in light of Jesus and the events of Holy Week and Easter. The Seder will begin at 6:30, and by 7:00 we will be eating the FULL meal. (There s lots to eat, so don t eat an early dinner beforehand!) Three years ago, when we last had a seder meal, it was extremely well received. The cost is a free-will donation. Please call the office to let us know you re coming or indicate your attendance on the connection card in worship. LADLES FOR LENT During the Fridays of Lent, our Wednesday morning Sermon Review Class has been hosting a community soup luncheon called Ladles for Lent. There are three more Fridays in Lent, including Good Friday, and we hope you will consider coming to eat and inviting others to join you. The meal is free. Coffee and fellowship begin at 11:00. Lunch is served between 11:30 and 12:30. Page 6

Easter is coming! Every Easter the Worship in the Arts committee sells hydrangeas, azaleas, Easter lilies and daffodils to adorn our sanctuary on Easter morn. The proceeds then go to buy summer plants to decorate our church yard all spring and summer. If you are interested in buying a plant, please contact Daryl DeBano at 248-622-1154 or by email (dardebano@gmail.com) or visit our table in the Fellowship Hall after the 9:15 service. Sales will run until April 9 th or until we run out. CardMakers For Christ Greeting Cards are available for Birthday, Get Well, Sympathy, Thinking of You, and note cards in the church office and during coffee hour in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday. Proceeds benefit mission outreach. We are collecting used greeting cards to repurpose into new cards. Please put them in the brown bins at the Anderson and Slater Street entrances marked, "CardMakers for Christ". Scrip News Dozens of gift cards are for sale during Fellowship Time each Sunday. These cards include Kohl s, Hollywood Market, Speedway Gas, as well as many other restaurants, movie theatres and retailers. Check out the Scrip table for information about additional options for online and reloading scrip card purchases. For more information see Trudy or Sharon at the Scrip Table during Fellowship Time after the 9:15 service. Red Cross Blood Drive The next blood drive is Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 1:30 to 7:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall of LOUMC. Sign-up on line at redcrossblood.org (sponsor code - loumc1) or contact Linda Fitzpatrick at 248-563-6114 or lfitzpatrick99@gmail.com to make an appointment. Approximately 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed each day in the U.S. Blood is the most precious gift we can give to another person.it is the gift of life! Page 7
