AMA Charter 1605 September 2018 T h e P r o p Wa s h Club Officers Presidents Corner President- Steve Sartor Vice President - Dick Jones Secretary - Larry Bonnette Treasurer - Sam Barrett Editor/Webmaster- Larry Bonnette I n d e x Words from the VP (Vice President) Meeting Minutes (Secretary) Treasurers Report (Treasurer) 2 3 5 PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA Pizza will be served before the October meeting. Come early and enjoy a slice or two before the meeting starts. I d like to thank Kirk Jensen and Helcio Trindade for all the work they have done on the electrical outlets at the field. All new plugs and water resistant covers throughout the pavilion area are now complete. Steve Sartor We re still having problems with our facilities being left unsecured. If you are the last one to leave the field, it is your responsibility to make sure everything is locked up and secure. This includes the clubhouse and restrooms as well as the main gate. Jay Wright has volunteered to become our newest Contest Director (CD). This will give us a total of three, including Kirk Jensen and Max Taylor. Anyone else interested should get with Kirk or Max to familiarize themselves with the procedures. Jay Wright also has hats and shirts for sale. He will be bringing them to the monthly meetings until they are all sold. Contact Jay if you d like any. Quad Racing: We have a number of racing gates and flags available for your use in the equipment shed. Please put them away when you finish; do not leave them out on the field. Jay Wright will be heading up the nominating committee this year. Max Taylor and Steve Sartor will be helping also. If you would like to serve the club in any of several positions available, please contact one of these folks and they ll get you signed up. Fly Safe Meetings are at the Conroe Friendship Center on the first Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM Steve Sartor President We hope to see you there.

Page 2 T h e P r o p W a s h September 2018 Words from the VP Hello for September; Another month and I hope yall punched plenty of holes in the sky! BEST is in three weeks already. The big Bomber event is this week 19th thru the 22nd. Then after that; Wings over Houston. Seems like we have an event every weekend with the nicer weather helping. Keep volunteering and your tail straight; Dick Jones Dick Jones

September 2018 T h e P r o p W a s h Meeting Minutes Page 3 September 6 2018 Members present: 34 Start: 7:31 PM Acting President, Steve Sartor called the meeting to order. New member, Darrin Denn, was unanimously voted into the club. Welcome!! Safety officer, Gary Baumgartner reminded members that they should not fly alone. Larry Bonnette The Civil Air Patrol has asked for the club s permission to use its grounds for a model rocketry event. Steve said that we had allowed the cub scouts to launch rockets at our field in the past. Since the CAP has always helped us with our events in the past we should return the favor. Steve will contact the CAP and make the arrangements. He will inform the club of dates and times. Secretary Larry Bonnette told members that he is exploring service provider options with the goal of providing full time WiFi internet service at the field. We are currently using a T-Mobile 4G router to supply internet for the cameras. However, this does not give us enough data per month to open it up for general club use. If any member has any suggestions or experience with remote site internet providers Please contact Larry. Treasurer, Sam Barrett reported that the club finances are in good condition. Sam said that he is now busy collecting dues, and the collection is progressing at a normal pace. Jay Wright told members that we still have hats and Tee Shirts available for purchase. Steve Sartor told members that someone left the entire field unlocked. The gates were open, the club house was unlocked and even the equipment shed was unlocked. He reminded members to always check to see that everything is locked prior to leaving the property. Steve asked How many members were CD s The answer was Kirk Jensen and Max Taylor. Steve told members that we needed more CD s to run the events. Steve said that we will probably not be able to have the Big Bird this year due to the lack of a CD to run the event. Jay Wright volunteered to become a CD. He will get with Kirk Jensen to understand the process.

Page 4 T h e P r o p W a s h September 2018 Minutes (continued) Steve talked to members about mowing. He related a story of a member who was annoyed by the mowers on the field while he was trying to fly. When Steve mentioned to the member that the mowing would go a lot faster if the member would just help. The members reply was that he doesn t even mow his own lawn. Why would he mow someone else s. One of the members at the meeting stated Field rules state that no one shall fly when the field is being mowed. (Secretary Checked: Rule 3 last sentence states Do not fly when the filed is being mowed ). Another member stated that The By-Laws say that all members must help with field maintenance. (Secretary Checked: General Rule VII section 7 states Each member will from time to time have an obligation to perform general field maintenance. This obligation will be performed willingly and in a timely manner. ) Please Help with Field Maintenance! And, No one may fly when mowers are on the field. Multirotor Flyers are asked to remove and store the gates after use. Steve Sartor told members that the addition of 18 outlets to the benches has been completed and wanted to thank Helcio Trindade and Kirk Jensen. We need a president for next year. Jay Wright and two other members have volunteered to be on the election committee. Larry Bonnette, Sam Barret and Gary Baumgartner have volunteered to continue on in 2019 in their current positions. However, Larry said that if someone else would like to be secretary he would step aside. Best is coming up in October. Kirk Jensen is the CD. He said that Max has the food lined up. There will probably be little to no sponsorship and therefore little to no raffles due to the state of the local hobby industry. Kirk will be making the awards instead of buying them. He needs volunteers. Max Taylor talked to members about the by-laws. He went through the description of each of the officers and their jobs. Steve Sartor told members that the club will re-establish Pizza s before the meetings in order to try and build interest and attendance. The doors will open at 7:00 PM and Pizza will be available from 7:00 to 7:30 PM. Steve Tinsley gave a very informative tech talk on what you can do with pushrods and How to make servo wires Model of the Month was won by Michael Henry Attendance jackpot would have been won by Paul Johnson but he was not at the meeting. The Name Tag award was won by Max Taylor Meeting Adjourned at 8:59 PM

September 2018 T h e P r o p W a s h Page 5 The Treasurers Report Dick Sam Pursley Barrett It s September already and hopefully some cooler flying weather is in our near future. We have made our 34 th runway payment and only 26 more to go. The treasury is in good shape and we are about where we were this time last year on percent of dues collected. We continue to receive member dues but, just have the rest of this month before the grace period runs out. Don t forget, you can pay your dues in person at our monthly meeting and October is the last opportunity to do that before the grace period runs out. If you can t make it to the meeting you can always mail it in to our New Waverly PO Box. You can also pay your dues by leaving your check or cash at New Creations R/C and we thank them for providing that convenience. We had a small inventory of Barnstormer shirts and ball caps that were on sale at New Creations, so check them out if you need a club ball cap or shirt. We will be changing the gate combo to the new code the weekend of BEST, so if you were wondering why the new code doesn t work yet, now you know. The changing of the gate code is timed to be at the end of the dues grace period so only paid members should have the new code. As usual we have a number of members whose AMA has expired but, since the AMA website roster maintenance has been unavailable, I can t tell if renewals have been timely made. Check your expiration date and understand only members with a valid AMA coverage are permitted to fly at our field. Make sure you have a current AMA membership and don t fly at our field if you don t. If you have an accident, it could ruin you financially and the person or property you damage, will be your personal responsibility. Fly covered by AMA and make sure you read the latest AMA safety rules at least once a year as some things have changed this year.
