Adam Hamilton combines Biblical story, historical detail, theological analysis, spiritual insight and pastoral warmth to retell the narrative of Jesus last and greatest hours. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 Gina Crews NEED SOME MORE PEACE IN YOUR LIFE? Are you trying to find "calm in a chaotic world"? If so, the Genesis Sunday School class invites you to join them on Sunday mornings as they use Max Lucado's book "Anxious for Nothing" for their study to seek the promise of peace as found in Philippians 4:4-8. "So let's learn more about how to step out of a life run by anxiety and step into His presence -- a life ruled by peace." The Genesis Sunday School classroom is found on the third floor of the new education wing near the elevator.
ALL STARS 4 JESUS "Let all that you do be done in love." I Corinthians 16:14 February offers many opportunities for All Stars 4 Jesus to experience this verse. On the 8th, we will be having "craft" night, and on the 14th we will be having our Valentine Exchange and Party. Also, our mission project for this month includes collecting story books, coloring books and crayons/colored pencils/markers, puzzles, etc. to distribute to the Pediatric floors at St Mary's and Cabell Huntington Hospitals for use by patients. We continue to collect tabs from cans for Ronald McDonald House. So reach out in love and donate to these mission opportunities. "We can do great things if we focus on the great God who created us!" Cathy Conard ECCHO "You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God." 2 Corinthians 9:11 WOW! The response to our January "Mac & Cheese" drive was wonderful. We delivered 107 boxes and 81 individual serving cups. Thanks to all who contributed! Thanks to the generosity of the Singles Class, many will be able to get relief from the cold this winter with the 165 pairs of gloves, 139 hats/toboggans, and the 7 scarves they collected during December. ALL WOMEN OF STEELE ESTHER/RUTH CIRCLE will meet on the Third Thursday, February 15, 7:00 in Old Fellowship Hall (OFH). We will make plans for the spring; and continue our book study, Before Amen by Max Lucado, Chapter 6, "Forgive Me". Hope to see you there! Prayerfully consider joining the United Methodist Women (UMW) of our church. "We are a community of women whose purpose is to know God, and to develop a supportive fellowship together as we expand concepts of mission through ministries that serve children, youth, and women." We are FAITH, HOPE, and LOVE in ACTION and welcome you to come and fellowship with others and study God's word as we serve in mission projects in our church and in our community. This is a reminder the C.O.M.E. for this year will be on Sunday, May 6, 2018 starting at 1:00 pm at the First UMC Huntington. STEWARDSHIP NOTE Through January, the sermon lessons have focused on the five traits of a healthy Church; how the Church accommodates Radical Hospitality, Passionate Worship, Intentional Faith Development, Risk-Taking Mission and Service, and Extravagant Generosity. This means that each of us need to be willing to trust Jesus with whatever He teaches from the Bible. It means we want to champion the cause of our church through our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness! Finances. It's a big commitment we've made to be in ministry. Part of the RISK we talk about is our investment in our mission to reach out. Is Steele Memorial UM Church engaged in ministry in a way that is faithful to God? Are you supporting the Church through your giving? Will you get on board to move us into the best year ever? Bless you for your support and sacrifice! FROM THE PASTOR In Psalm 71 we read these words: 15 I will tell everyone about Your righteousness. All day long I will proclaim Your saving power, though I am not skilled with words. 16 I will praise Your mighty deeds, O Sovereign LORD. I will tell everyone that You alone are just. 17 O God, You have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things You do. 18 Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim Your power to this new generation, Your mighty miracles to all who come after me. Psalm 71:15-18 (NLT) If you read this carefully we see that the writer expressed delight telling about, proclaiming, and praising God to those who would hear! It describes the very nature of our Church s mission to ENGAGE and CONNECT with others! It is our purpose to Intentionally ENGAGE with new people in order to demonstrate God's love for them.
And once we ve engaged new people we want to CONNECT people to a vital relationship with God and His Church through faith in Jesus! So what is the message you can tell? Look again at the verses above: We will tell about God s righteousness! He alone is perfect and pure in His love! We can tell others about the power of God to save us from hopelessness, worry, and sin! We can praise Him for His mighty deeds! Though this world seems so flawed and painful, we have One who comes to us in our pain...to lead us to believe in a tomorrow for the ages! We will tell the world that God alone is just! He is the fair judge over all decisions and choices people make for kindness or evil. We will describe the wonderful things God does! These are the glory sightings we re telling one another. The most wonderful thing God has done for me was to take away my fear of death. The Church is taking steps to maintain a safe environment for our families while attending worship and meetings in the building. Am I Growing as a Disciple? Prayers Presence Gifts Service Witness Exploring Growing in Growing Deeper in Centered The above chart was prepared by Rev. Dr. Ellis Conley, pastor at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church in Hurricane, WV as a tool for reflection and discipleship. In the Church season of Lent, it has been the tradition of God s people to take part in practices of renewal through self-examination of their own sense of spirituality. If there are some among our members and friends at Steele Memorial United Methodist Church who would like to explore this more personally, please contact Pastor Kevin Lantz. Appointments may be made through the Church office at 304 736-4583. "The last thing many believers need today is to go to another Bible study. They already know far more than they are putting into practice. What they need are serving experiences in which they can exercise their spiritual muscles." Rick Warren; "What On Earth Am I Here For?"
