We speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the Gospel. 1 Thessalonians 2:4 Entrusted The Official Newsletter of St. Paul's Lutheran Church (WELS), Moline, Illinois Volume IX, Issue 11 November 2016 Pastor Iwinski, Editor The first Sunday of this month of November we will have our Western Wisconsin District Pastoral representative for the Board for Home Missions--Pastor Jeff Mahnke--deliver the sermon and make a presentation about home missions going on in the WELS. I am very excited about this. In October at our Voters Meeting we elected the following individuals: Mike Brandau--President Christopher Benner--Adult Disc. Elder Phil Parsons--re-elected as Worship Elder Tony Sullivan--re-elected as Trustee Thank you to these men for their dedication and willingness to serve in these leadership positions. These gentlemen will be placed into their positions after the 1st of the year. We are still anticipating to have our outreach event which is also secondarily a fundraising event that we have been calling the Raise the Roof Tournament which is a tournament of the Settlers of Catan game. As of the writing of this newsletter we have received far fewer registrations that we were anticipating but we are still planning on holding this event on Saturday, November 19th which is the Saturday before Thanksgiving. More information will be shared with the congregation as this date draws near. Due to anticipated breaks (such as the joint Reformation Service and the Mission Sunday) we have paused the Christian Freedom Bible study, however I am planning on continuing this during the month of November. The latter part of the month I will have a stewardship emphasis in my sermons and Bible studies. This emphasis will start with the Thanksgiving eve service. At the end of this month we will celebrate Thanksgiving. Despite the many problems and challenges facing our world today we have so very much to be grateful for. Most importantly we have God's grace made known to us through His enduring Word which will never cease. God bless you this month of November. Pastor Iwinski

Entrusted November 2016 From the President This month begins the holiday season with Thanksgiving only a couple of weeks away followed seemingly immediately by Advent and the Christmas season. Usually this means an increase in attendance at services and enjoying the fellowship of our family of believers. Many times we see people that do not live in the Quad Cities anymore or have work situations that do not allow them to be at the normal Sunday worship services on a regular basis. Some of these same people are the ones we counted on when the budget was adopted in the July voter s meeting. But for some reason that I cannot explain the attendance and giving has decreased dramatically since summer which is normally lower in attendance due to vacations and other commitments but historically it has picked up once the school year begins. Not so this year. To maintain our level of service to the congregation and school an average amount of over $4000 is required per week but we have come up short on many of the Sundays since the new fiscal year began. Also there are several fairly hefty bills due this month which adds to the angst of the council. We as a council will have difficult decisions to make should the giving levels remain at current levels. Please give prayerful consideration to your financial support so that we may continue all the wonderful things that go on here at St. Paul s. I have also attached the giving for this fiscal year. Please look it over and speak with Kevin Hatter or me if you have questions. Entrusted november 2016 Ladies Guild Our next Ladies Guild meeting is Tuesday, November 8th beginning at 6:30pm in the church fellowship hall. Ladies Guild is sponsoring three events this month. First, on November 13 following service, we will have our last "traditional" bake sale Sunday. If you are willing to provide a dessert or two, please sign up on the bulletin board. The freewill offering will go towards our Christmas mission gifts. Sunday, November 20 is Advent by Candlelight. The RSVP sign up sheet is downstairs. Ladies, please consider joining us for this wonderful evening of fellowship and reflection. If you have any questions, please see Sue Pagel. On Sunday, November 27th, we will be doing our Advent/Christmas decorating. Please consider staying after service to help. The more assistance, the better! In December, instead of our "traditional" bake sale Sunday, we would like to do a Christmas cookie exchange/walk on Sunday, December 11. There is a sign-up sheet downstairs if you are willing to contribute Christmas Cookies. You may provide as few (or many!) kinds as you wish; all we suggest is at least 2 dozen per type. Following service, everyone is welcome to enjoy cookies, and pack a to-go plate if you wish! As with our regular bake sale Sundays, the freewill offering will to be used for our Christmas mission gifts. If you have any questions, please contact Cheryl Iwinski. Gethsemane Lutheran: GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY SERVICE Our sister congregation, Gethsemane Lutheran Church (2410 E 32nd St, Davenport), is celebrating 50 years of God's grace in the community. A special service is planned for Sunday, November 13 at 10:15 am. The service will feature a guest preacher and special music. They hope former members can attend, as well as you, their friends across the river here at St. Paul's. They would be honored with your presence, either for all or part of the service and for the fellowship meal that will follow. RSVP by phone (563) 359-0144.
