My Prayer for You: Spiritual Power for Spiritual Growth 1 2 3 Theme Ephesians 3:14 In light of God s divine plan for the church, believers must ask God the Father for the Holy Spirit s power to grow in Christ-likeness. 4 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ For this reason I bow my knees before the Father (ESV) 5 Mystery = Something that had been previously hidden, but is now revealed. 6 Ephesians 3:1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles (ESV)

Chapter 2 Verse 1: For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles 8 I. God has a divine plan for the church (Eph 2:1-22) A. A plan for reconciliation through Christ (vv. 1-10) 7 Verse 14: For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ BEFORE 9 We were dead in trespasses and sins (v.1) We walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience (v. 2) We had lustful lifestyles ( conversation ), fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind (v. 3) We were by nature the children of wrath (v.3) AFTER 10 God has made us alive ( quickened ) together with Christ (v. 5) He has raised us up with Christ (v. 6) He has seated us in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (v. 6) He has saved us by grace through faith (v. 8) He created us in Christ Jesus for good works that we should walk in them (v. 10) 11 I. God has a divine plan for the church (Eph 2:1-22) A. A plan for reconciliation through Christ (vv. 1-10) B. A plan for unity in Christ (vv. 11-22) BEFORE 12 We were Gentiles in the flesh (v. 11) We were separated from Christ, alienated from God s covenant people, and strangers from the covenants of promise made to them (v. 12) We had no hope, and were without God in the world (v. 12) We were (once) far off from God (v. 13)

AFTER 13 We (Gentiles) have been brought near by the blood of Christ (v. 13) Christ reconciled Jews and Gentiles to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility (vv. 14-16) Christ preaches the same message of peace to both Jews and Gentiles (v. 17) Through Christ, both Jews and Gentiles have access by the same Holy Spirit to God the Father (v. 18) AFTER 14 Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners - we are fellow citizens with the saints, and members of the same household of God! (v. 19) The church, as a corporate body, is being built as the temple of God! (vv. 20-22) Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone; Ephesians 2:21-22 (ESV) In whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In Him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. 15 16 17 I. God has a divine plan for the church (Eph 2:1-22) A. A plan for reconciliation through Christ (vv. 1-10) B. A plan for unity in Christ (vv. 11-22) Chapter 2 Verse 1: For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles 18 Verse 14: For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ
