Page 2 St. Stephen s News Poetry Anyone? Middle School students were given a delightful treat as Denver s inaugural Youth Poet Laureate, Toluwanimi Obiwole, visited our school to share her poetry and to conduct poetry workshops. Students were prompted into writing inspiring words by imagining their body limbs were instruments and discovering the power of their names. What s in a Name? By: Ray Rosenmerkel My name is Pride. Pride. Five letters- PRIDE. It flows through me like a river of hope, confidence and power within myself. Pride. Power. The Power to speak. Power. The power to be heard. Power. The Power to live my life according to the pages in the books of my stories. The stories of Pride. Power. Persistence. Excellence, Perfection. My name is not a tag, a title, an identity~ but a story. The story of feelings, emotions and memories of ancestry, origins and the past, present, and future. The story of ME. People can call me what they want. Out of respect or disrespect. Out of love or hatred. Out of anger or joy. But always, I know MY name. MY story. MY life.

We pray over your names as we create small groups, knowing His wisdom prevails. We have learned over the last 16 years that each woman is placed in her group for a reason. Be a Facilitator: Each small group needs a facilitator who is the point person to relay information from the core team to your group and present the reflection questions. From: Women s Journey 7400 W. 80 th Ave. Arvada, CO 80003-2112 2017 Retreat Registration Women s Journey, March 10-12, 2017 Rise, and Do Not be Afraid Matthew 17:7 YMCA of the Rockies 2515 Tunnel Road Estes Park, CO 80511 You are invited to join Catholic and Christian women to share reflections on your lives and spiritual journeys. www.coloradocatholicretreats.org Presiding Priests The weekend retreat is presented by a group of committed lay women and two dynamic Catholic priests: Monsignor Ken Leone Father John Lager, a Capuchin Franciscan Friar There are dozens of instances in the bible exhorting us to not be afraid. It s about trust; trust in God to watch over us, our families and our friends. Jesus wants us to trust and follow Him. As God made man, He knew what fear is about, what it feels like. So, He says to us, knowing our fears and anxieties, I am here: Arise and do not be afraid. How do you feel Jesus presence in those times of fear? To whom do you turn in those times of anxiety and uncertainty? Is trust easy or hard for you? This year s Journey will focus on how Jesus speaks to us in our times of need. How does He appear in your life? Where in your life has He sustained you in those times? How has your life been transformed by walking through your fear? Come support, and be supported by other women of faith, to allow the Holy Spirit to transform your doubts and anxieties into trust and hope. We welcome you to be on the mountain and feel God s love, healing and peace! --Our mission is to grow in our Christian spirituality and wholeness with the support of other women.--
