Teaching Scripture Through Song
The Lord Is Good To Me Oh, the Lord is good to me, And so I thank the Lord For giving me the things I need, The sun, the rain, and the apple tree. The Lord is good to me. Written by Kim Gannon and Walter Kent
I Am Not Afraid Of The Dark I am not afraid of the dark. I am not afraid of the dark. I am not afraid, for I have Jesus in my heart. I am not afraid of the dark! Joshua 1:9 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." I have a puppet, whom I introduce to the children. His name is Harold. I remark that I enjoy being around Harold, because he is always so full of energy and happiness. Harold does not look happy! He is hanging his head and rubbing his eyes. I ask him what is the matter. Harold tells me that he did not sleep well, last night, as he was afraid of the dark. I relay a story to Harold, sharing that I was also afraid of the dark. I overcame that fear by memorizing a Bible verse: Joshua l:9 - "Be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed; for the Lord thy God is with thee wherever you go. I ask the children to share things that they are afraid of. We say the verse together. Harold then tells me that he is going to say the verse when he feels afraid. He will say the verse and sing the song, before going to bed at night.
I can do all things through Christ I can do all things through Christ. Whether big or small, I can do them all, I can do all things through Christ. Philippians 4: 13 I can do all this through Him who gives me strength. Ask the children to share things that are hard for them to do. Perhaps it is getting along with other children, schoolwork, or physical activities. Share an experience that you have been able to have victory in, through Christ. I believe that songwriting has ONLY been possible through Christ. All good gifts are from God. Without His guidance and strength, I would not be able to write songs...or even have a song in my heart!
This Little Light Of Mine This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine Let it shine, Let it shine, Let it shine. Hide it under a bushel? No! I'm gonna let it shine Hide it under a bushel? No! I'm gonna let it shine Hide it under a bushel? No! I'm gonna let it shine Let it shine, Let it shine, Let it shine. This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine Let it shine, Let it shine, Let it shine. Don't let Satan blow it out, I'm gonna let it shine Don't let Satan blow it out, I'm gonna let it shine Don't let Satan blow it out, I'm gonna let it shine Let it shine, Let it shine, Let it shine. Jesus Made My Fingers Jesus made my fingers, Jesus made my toes..jesus made my hands, I can clap both of those. Jesus made my arms, and Jesus made my legs. One thing about my Jesus, He does not make mistakes! Jesus made the hair that lays upon my head, Then took the time to count them, that's what the Bible says! It says that: Jesus made my fingers, Jesus made my toes. Jesus made my hands, I can clap both of those. Jesus made my arms, and Jesus made my legs. One thing about my Jesus, He does not make mistakes! Matthew 10:29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. [a] 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. We are each made differently. Our hair, eye, and skin colors are different. We are different heights and weights. Some of us need to wear glasses. Some are different in other ways. A fun activity might be for each child to draw a picture of themselves. Then have them hang up the pictures, next to one another. Point out how all of the pictures are very different from one another. Have the children stand up. "Everyone show me your fingers. Who made our fingers? Touch your toes. Who made our toes? Touch your hair. Who made your hair? God tells us that He loves us so much that he knows how many hairs are on each of our heads! When I sing about a part of your body in this song, do something with it. You can shake your arms or legs, touch your toes, and wiggle your fingers!
God s Word Is A Lamp God s Word is a lamp, God s Word is a light. In your heart, let it stand, And it will lead your life. It will lead you when you walk, It will guide you when you talk, It will keep you when you sleep. If you write it in your heart, With God s Word each day will start. It is all of the help that you need. For God s Word is a lamp. God s Word is a light. In your heart, let it stand, And it will lead your life. Proverbs 6:22-23 22 When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. 23 For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life.
He's got the whole world in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands. He's got my brothers and my sisters in His hands, He's got my brothers and my sisters in His hands, He's got my brothers and my sisters in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands. He's got the sun and the rain in His hands, He's got the moon and the stars in His hands, He's got the wind and the clouds in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands. He's got the rivers and the mountains in His hands, He's got the oceans and the seas in His hands, He's got you and he's got me in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands. He's got everybody here in His hands, He's got everybody there in His hands, He's got everybody everywhere in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands. Traditional song, author unknown
Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights above. Psalm 148 Praise the Lord from the heavens. Praise the Lord from the highest heights. Praise Him, old men and children, Praise Him, all of you stars of light. Let s praise the name of Jesus. His power never ceases. With every breath that He gives us, Let s praise the name of Jesus. I Thessalonians 5:18 tell us: give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. This includes the difficult times, as well as the joyful events. There is a two-fold blessing in this act of obedience. One is that praise lifts our Spirit! The other is that it opens the doors for God s blessings.
I Believe It's God Who makes the rain, and who makes the snow? Who is strong enough to make the North Wind blow? Who is the One who makes the rivers flow? I believe it's God, When friends sigh that He does not exist, I reply, then answer this: Who paints the rainbows in the sky? Who took the time to teach the birds to fly? Who put the sparkle in your eyes? I believe it's God. I believe it's God. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. When I was a child, my classroom had life-size poster pictures of monkeys, in front of the Science room. They taught the theory of Biological Evolution, which teaches that through the years, we have evolved from monkeys. Darwin, who introduced this theory, later stated that "the impossibility of conceiving this immense and wonderful universe was the result of blind chance," "to think that the eye could evolve by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest possible degree," "the complete lack of fossil intermediates in the geological record is the most obvious and gravest objection which can be urged against my theory. When I began to learn the Bible, I realized that we did not evolve from monkeys. By the way, why are there still monkeys today? We are created in the image of God, our Father. I have friends who do not believe in God, and I tell them to look at all of the beautiful creations that surround us. Man does not have the power to make the sun, moon, rainbow... how did these things get here without a God? Flannelgraph scenes are a wonderful tool in teaching this lesson. Simple pictures of nature from magazines also make great visual aids.

Brother Paul, when put in jail, had every reason to cry and wail. But instead, he began to sing. Brother Paul made the heavens ring. When you're troubled, when you're down, when you're dreams fall to the ground, Look to Jesus, look above. He specializes in giving love. Brother David, he liked to play upon something called a harp all day. He'd play his praises to the king. Brother David made the heavens ring. When you're troubled, when you're down, when you're dreams fall to the ground, Look to Jesus, look above. He specializes in giving love. Micah 7:7 But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. I have used various methods in teaching this song. A pair of handcuffs is a great visual. The following is an excerpt from a method I have used, when telling the story of Paul and Silas in jail. I remember a Bible character who was thrown in jail, for teaching the Word Of God. His name was Paul. What do you think that Paul did, when the Romans officials threw him into the prison? Do you think that he cried or complained? (Give the children time to reply.) Paul did not complain or cry! He trusted God. Even in a terrible situation like that, Paul believed that God would take care of him. He began to sing praises unto God! Can you imagine what the guards must have thought, when they heard Paul singing? God rewarded Paul for his faith. God caused a great earthquake to come and shake the ground, so that the doors of the jail fell open! We can always look to Jesus in times of trouble!
Thank You Jesus I have friends who will walk with me And friends who will talk to me Friends who will cry when I am gone. But I have found a friend so dear, one who is always near, It s to Him, I d like to sing this song. Thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus. Every day with you, my love increases. Thank you that you died for me, and bore my sins on Calvary s tree. Thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus. I have friends who will play with me And friends who will stay with me When I am hurt or feeling bad. But I have found a friend so true, no matter what I do, Jesus is the closest friend I have. Thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus. Every day with you, my love increases. Thank you that you died for me, and bore my sins on Calvary s tree. Thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus.
The Lord said to Noah: There's gonna be a floody, floody. The Lord said to Noah: There's gonna be a floody, floody. Get those children out of the muddy, muddy, children of the Lord. Rise and shine and give God the glory, glory. Rise and shine and give God the glory, glory Rise and shine and give God the glory, glory, children of the Lord The Lord told Noah to build him an arky, arky. The Lord told Noah to build him an arky, arky. Build it out of gopher barky, barky, children of the Lord. He called for the animals. They came in by twosie, twosies. He called for the animals. Everything was fine and dandy, dandy, children of the Lord. The animals, they came off. They came off by three-sies three-sies. Animals, they came off. They came off by three-sies three-sies. Grizzly bears and chimpanzee-sies zee-sies, children of the Lord. That is the end of, the end of my story, story. That is the end of, the end of my story, story. Arky Arky Song, Author Unknown
