Living Our Faith in Community Workshop By Fr David Garcia, OP How do we make sense of our daily challenges through the eyes of faith? These workshops cater to existing communities that meet regularly to grow, live and express their faith in their daily encounters with others. They provide an understanding of the need to integrate faith and life. Using the Catholic Social Teaching as a resource, they offer insights into how we could live our vocation as builders of the Kingdom of God. God has a plan for creation, to build His kingdom of peace, love and justice. Our part in His plan is to answer His call in working towards achieving the common good for all and to treat everyone with dignity in our daily encounters with each person. Issues mentioned range from family life to international development, understanding poverty and managing wealth, consumerism, being stewards of the environment, the rights of workers and the dignity of work. These workshops also introduce a method for analysing our life challenges, reflecting on them with eyes of faith and spurring us to respond as we lead the lives of intentional Christians and allow for some reflection and directional planning for growing the communities that attend. We are also a member of Caritas Internationalis, a global federation of 165 humanitarian organisations. The organisations support a wide array of causes such as the poor, children, youth at risk, families, prisoners, elderly, sick, people with life-limiting illnesses, people with HIV/AIDS, those with disabilities, migrant workers, and people with legal and medical needs. There are more than 70 programmes run by these organisations aimed at helping the people in need. While our main focus is in Singapore, we also reach out to needy groups overseas and respond to disasters like tsunamis and earthquakes. Our initiative - Agape Village which is located at 7A Lorong 8, Toa Payoh, brings together the resources and services of our member organisations under one-roof to provide an integrated one-step connection for our beneficiaries and anyone in the society who needs help.
