I hope that this letter finds you all well and in good spirits at the start of a new year. Let me first say how excited I am about the all the wonderful things our youth group has accomplished over the past semester and how much we have to look forward to. This is one of the main reasons this newsletter is being created. I hope that you find the information here insightful and easy to understand. Every other month we aim to update this with details on current and upcoming events, topics in youth Sunday school and Wednesday night Youth4him meetings, and of course any prayer concerns. Grace and Peace, Taylor Vancil REGULAR SUNDAY SCHEDULE: Sunday School @ 9:30am Worship @ 10:45am REGULAR WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE: Fellowship Meal @ 5:30pm Youth4Him @ 6:15pm Several times in past months, the mission minded youth headed out to Heaven s Own Kennels to walk, feed, and give much needed TLC to some of Union County s abandoned dogs. 11 youth and 4 adults attended. Youth Christmas Party December 19th, 2012 - Youth met for Christmas fellowship at the home of Sarah and Taylor Vancil. 12 youth came along with their leaders Susan Echols & Taylor and Sarah Vancil. The party was planned and provided by Brenda Lowery with help from Michelle Dawson. After eating and playing a few ice breaker games, the youth opened one well-wrapped present and later wrapped and decorated Pastor Dawson and Taylor Vancil as a contest. The night ended with prayer and an exchange of gifts. Thanks to all those in attendance and all those that helped make it a success!

Talking Points... By Anita Gross and Taylor Vancil WHAT TO LOOK FOR... In this section of the newsletter you can find the content and structure of what the Youth have been studying and talking about during their regular Wednesday fellowship and Sunday School meetings. This section isn t only to be informative on what is going on downstairs, but also so that outside of church we can all make an attempt at reinforcing these most important lessons. I challenge each of you to take 15 minutes every week to study and DIG DEEPER on what we have been learning. Have conversations with each other, ask questions, give thanks, laugh, and share the beauty of God s gift of life. In the column to the right are some of the topics that you can discuss and review. These might be in the form of a question or a specific scripture we have studied. Again, this isn t just for the youth or for the parents, but for all of us who forget that our spiritual life doesn t just take place on Wednesday and Sunday. ~Grace and Peace ~ Back to the Basics Over the past month or two, our Youth Sunday School goal has been to review and reinforce our basic biblical knowledge and practices. We have been learning the books of the bible along with how to navigate it quickly without using a page number or table of contents. Below you will find the books covered so far and some of the content we have learned along with it. New Testament books - Matthew through Philemon What is the purpose of the Gospels? How do we pray? And why is it important to pray? Matthew 6: 5-17 Luke 5:16 THE YOUTH MINISTRY First Baptist Church 109 Morrow Ave. Monroe, NC 28112 Youth Disciple 4321 First Street Anytown, State ZIP

~~Talking Points~~ This section of the newsletter is where you ll find the most recent material that the children have been studying. It could be a story from worship and wonder, or simply a few bible verses. Take a few moments each day or every other day to discuss and review these topics with your children. CHILDREN WORSHIP AND WONDER Our time during Worship & Wonder is not trivial. It may be quiet and reverent most the time, but it is very meaningful. Take a few seconds and think about your past week (even for a child). It is constantly on the move: sports, school, work, TV, and internet. Even time at the dinner table can be chaotic. Every Sunday morning our children enter into a safe space where their focus is on the time tested stories of faith that we hold so dear. It is my challenge for all of us that we take a few minutes each day and remind ourselves that we should Be still and know that [He] is God Psalm 46:10 Worship & Wonder Stories February and March 2013 The following lesson s can be found in the Worship and Wonder Room at church.
