Christmas Day 2017

Christmas Day December 25, 2017, 11 a.m. Prelude North Shore Brass Merry Christmas! We hope you find today to be a joyous time to worship God as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Join us as we lift our voices together as brothers and sisters in Christ to sing praise to God Father, Son and Holy Spirit! Hymn Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful adeste fideles We gather in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen 2 Christmas Day

Proclamation of Christmas Praise O come, all you faithful, let us make a joyful noise to the Lord. Praise be to the newborn King. For unto us is born a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. O that all would hear his wonderful voice! So come, let us bow down and worship. Let us kneel before the Christ Child, our Savior and our King. Glory be to the God of our salvation. Amen The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Hymn The First Noel the first nowell 3 Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our heav nly Lord That hath made heaven and earth of naught, And with His blood salvation bought. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the King of Israel. Christmas Day 3

Prayer of Christmas Day Lesson Micah 5:2-5a But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah, who are one of the little clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to rule in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days. Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labor has brought forth; then the rest of his kindred shall return to the people of Israel. And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall live secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth; and he shall be the one of peace. Psalm 98:1-4 Read in unison: O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things. His right hand and his holy arm have gotten him victory. The Lord has made known his victory; he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises. 4 Christmas Day All powerful and unseen God, the coming of your light into our world has brightened weary hearts out of darkness. Guide us into centered peace as we remember your promise, fulfilled today with the birth of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

Holy Gospel John 1:1-5, 10-14, 16-18 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father s only son, full of grace and truth. From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father s heart, who has made him known. Sermon The Long Game Hymn What Child Is This Intern Pastor Carolyn Staats greensleeves Christmas Day 5

Nicene Creed Read in unison: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen Offering North Shore Brass 6 Christmas Day

Offertory What Child Is This So bring him incense, gold, and myrrh; come, peasant, king, to own him. The King of kings salvation brings; let loving hearts enthrone him. Raise, raise the song on high, the virgin sings her lullaby; joy, joy, for Christ is born, the babe, the son of Mary! greensleeves Prayers of the Church Words of Institution for the Sacrament of Holy Communion The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen We believe that Jesus Christ is truly present in the bread and wine and grants us the gift of God s grace and forgiveness. All are welcome to receive this gift.
