FROM THE TOP OF 4TH News and Events from Trinity Heights United Methodist Church Advent 2017 Decorate for Christmas! Thursday, November 30 ~ 6:00 pm Join us after THN Dinner on Thursday as we hang wreaths, decorate trees and sing Christmas carols for the first time this season. See you then! Christmas Caroling Thursday, December 21 We will visit our Shut-ins with the gift of music. Join us after THN dinner on Dec. 21 as we go to their homes and brighten their evening. This is not limited to professional singers we all have the gift of music. Christmas Eve Services 9 am ~ Lessons and Carols 10:30 am ~ La Posadas and Tamale lunch 5 pm ~ youth-led Best Christmas Eve Ever 7 pm ~ Candlelight Christmas Eve 9 pm ~ Stories & Songs with Communion Second Saturday Retreat December 9 9:00-10:30 am For most of us, our outward journey is fast and furious. To give your inward journey a gentle nudge, please join us for a short, informal spiritual retreat. We will meet in the music room for 90 minutes of spiritual rest and reflection to reset your spiritual life for the month ahead. This retreat will not be full of teaching, but rather will lead you in reflection and rest for your soul to help your roots sink deep in God, so that your life will bear fruit. Year -end gifts should be received by Jan 3 to be counted for giving in 2017. Trustees Update The Trustees are excited to be completing several projects soon! The west wing bathrooms are getting the finishing touches of a major remodel, making them single stall use. The block walls on the west end are complete. Windows have been replaced in three rooms. We have more projects on the horizon so ask for more information! Christmas Eve Offering Sunday, December 24 We invite you to consider a special offering for Christmas to help others in need. Once again our evening Christmas Eve offering will be used through the year to support those who come to the church office seeking help. Envelopes will be available in the seat backs in front of you. 2

First Fridays Out We ve launched a new ministry to help us build connections with our friends at the Ark First Friday Out! We invite parents to leave their kids with us the first Friday of each month for a wonderful night of games, crafts, and a movie while the parents take a much-needed night out to themselves. Thank you to all the volunteers who have made this possible it s been a lot of fun! Next First Friday Out Friday, December 1 6:00-9:00 pm www.thumc.com/first-friday-out Sunday School Sunday School has been incredible the last several months! We ve been journeying through the Bible and learning about the birth of the church after Jesus. We ve had AWESOME volunteer teachers in the classes this Fall, so the kids have had a great time. We will start our series of lessons on Christmas and Advent this week! Prayer Force We ve been meeting every Thursday after Trinity Heights Night, and it s been so much fun! We ve been using stories from the Old Testament to learn new ways to pray to God join us Thursdays at 6:00pm! Family Christmas Festival Friday, December 1 Let s start off December by celebrating the birth of Jesus together! We have a great evening of games, crafts, and a really wonderful re-telling of the Christmas story. Bring your kids, and join in the fun! Check the worship bulletin as we get closer for more details, and let Kevin know if you can volunteer to show our kids a great time. Genesis Choir Please join us on Sunday mornings in the Music Room, Room 104 beginning at 10:30 am.. Trinity Heights Goes to the Theater! Sunday, December 17 Join the youth and the children s ministry as we go into the community and experience Christmas together! We will meet at the Orpheum Theater for the Community Band s concert, followed by a showing of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Wear your THUMC shirt and join the fun! Details to come! SUMMER CAMPS in youth group General Electric Power Company This semester our youth ministry has focused on learning about the General Electric Power Company, or the books of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians. The focus was to get them all reading the books and exploring the scriptures so that they can know where to look when they need more of God s power in their lives. I find that the General Electric Power Company books have always been a place for me to read and find scripture come alive in my own life when I need to be reminded of the power that lives in the Church. We read in small groups, we did small group presentations, and we watched The Bible Project s short videos. Check them out here: https:// thebibleproject.com/ I challenged the youth to memorize scripture and write it on their hearts. Please test them in The Armor of God and The Fruits of the Spirit. Finally, know that my prayer and purpose for them is that they will be deeply rooted and established in love, echoing the prayer found in Ephesians 3:14-21: For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in Heaven and on Earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen! Youth Group Calendar for December 2017 December 2-2pm Lollipop Nutcracker at NAUdressy/formal- lunch beforehand December 3/10- Wrap up of General Electric Power Company celebrating Jesus December 17- Christmas special event from 3-8! Meet at THUMC at 3pm and we will go together to the Orpheum downtown for a special concert by the Flagstaff Community Band and a showing of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This is a community event and families are welcome to come together! Bring 2 canned food items for their food drive. We will do a youth group Ugly Christmas Sweater contest, too! ;) December 19- TACO TUESDAY and The Last Jedi (please RSVP so that Elisabeth can prepurchase the tickets) December 24- Youth Christmas Eve Service at 5pm December 31- New Year s Eve celebration and Linda s birthday! Our newest branch of THUMC Youth Ministries is a College Group! We have 10 students so far who have begun meeting since the semester started! Calendar of upcoming events: 11/30: NAU Holiday Dinner Winter Camp: Extraordinary Love at Mingus Mountain February 16-19, 2018; sign up NOW! Cost will be $100/student as we will go EARLY on Friday. Six Plus Winter Break Program We offer Six Plus as an educational day program for families who are active at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church and/or have children who are alumni from the Ark. Our next Six Plus is scheduled for Monday - Thursday December 18-21 The cost per child is $15/half day (up to 6 hrs) or $30/full day (6-11 hrs). Siblings of any child in Six Plus receive a $5 discount. To register: visit www.thumc.com/sixplus The Ark Christmas Program Thursday, December 14 5:15 pm Fun things are happening at the ARK. It is truly a season of craziness and high activity, but it is also a season of teaching the children the true meaning of thankfulness and love. The preschool children are looking forward to performing at the Thanksgiving potluck and we are looking ahead to our Christmas program. Our hallway will transform from pumpkins and ghosts to turkeys and scarecrows and will be filled with joyful noises of singing and laughter. I ask and thank you for your prayers for my staff and the parents of the ARK as the stress of the season comes upon us. Thank you for ordering pies for our pie fundraiser! We will also be doing our cinnamon roll fundraiser in December. Information will be forthcoming. Thank you for all your support for the ARK. We are truly blessed by the Trinity Heights Community.
