Holy means set apart. Christians set apart an entire week - Holy Week - to recall the events surrounding the Suffering, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus. The liturgies of Holy Week are filled with some of the richest and most ancient symbols of the Catholic faith. The waving of palms on Palm Sunday reminds us that we are called to be followers of Jesus, not just fans who cheer from a distance. The washing of feet on Holy Thursday speaks to us of the selfless love that we are called to practice in imitation of Jesus. The veneration of the cross on Good Friday reminds us that, as Christians, we believe that Jesus can overcome anything, even death. The lighting of the Easter candle in a darkened church and the celebration of baptisms on Holy Saturday speak to us of the new life that is ours because of Jesus triumph over the darkness of sin and death through his resurrection. I wish you and your families an Easter filled with reflection and centred on new life. I have been advised by Brisbane City Council that the construction of Council s Local Area Traffic Management for the Oceana Terrace Precinct Manly will take place in April, weather permitting. Works are scheduled to commence during the holidays and continue until the end of April. This will impact traffic around the school so please allow for extra time for drop off, pick up and parking. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this important construction. I want to thank the students, staff and parents for a fantastic Term One. I have felt very welcomed to the SJV community and have enjoyed getting to know you all. We are truly blessed to belong to such a wonderful community! Have a safe and happy holiday. In God We Trust. Katherine McKay PRINCIPAL

SCHOOL WIDE EXPECTATIONS Our SJV School-wide Expectations: Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Safe Be a Learner Virtue for this fortnight: Friendliness Friendliness is being a friend, through good times and bad. You take an interest in other people and make them feel welcome. You share your belongings, your time and yourself. Friendliness is the best cure for loneliness. SJV LEARNING POWERS Learning Power for this fortnight: Reflective Rosa I think about my learning and where to go next I seek feedback I learn from my mistakes I use feedback to progress RELIGION He Is Risen Liturgy Easter is the celebration of Christ's resurrection from the dead. It is celebrated on Sunday, and marks the end of Holy Week, the end of Lent, the last day of the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday), and is the beginning of the Easter season of the liturgical year. As we know from the Gospels, Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the third day following his crucifixion. His resurrection marks the triumph of good over evil, sin and death. It is the singular event which proves that those who trust in God and accept Christ will be raised from the dead. Since Easter represents the fulfillment of God's promises to mankind, it is the most important holiday on the Christian calendar. Source: catholic.org Upon return to school from holidays on Tuesday 17 April (Monday 16 April being a student free day due to the Commonwealth Games) we will acknowledge Jesus rising from the dead with a short liturgy at 8.35am in the Nano Nagle Centre. Terms 2 & 3 Morning Procedures Due to the milder weather in Terms 2 & 3, children will line up on the blue courts at the bottom of the playground (as opposed to lining up in the undercroft). A letter with instructions has been emailed to parents with more information regarding bookings. This letter is also available on the Parent Portal. Parents are advised that generally only one time slot will be allocated for each student. The main contact has access to PTO. Any parent other than the main contact may request a separate logon and pin by contacting the school office. Bookings will open on Monday 9 April and close on Thursday 19 April. A link to make the appointment is available on our website on the Curriculum tab together with a link to a Powerpoint presentation of instructions (please remain in manual booking mode). Using this system you will be able to book the interview times that suit you best from any internetconnected device.
