Student Council Candidates 2016-2017 PRESIDENT: You must vote for one candidate: Marta H. Sofía H. I would like to present myself as candidate for Student Council president. My five bullet points are the following: *I am dedicated and responsible *I am a proud Runnymedian *I am willing to sacrifice my time for my companions *I am creative and innovative *I have leadership skills, which will help me organise events efficiently. I would be honoured to become president of the student council. Can you imagine not feeling slightly nervous after running into Mr Powell in the corridor? What if the IELTS lessons fitted better in our already tight schedules? Do you think that Shakespeare had to write as many essays as we do before Hamlet s first performance? Are you aware that you are now in the running for a Nobel Prize after solving so many perplexing problems in science past papers? Could you still find our school sweet without Mr Murphy s and Dr Allen s biscuits? All of this and much more makes us unique Runnymedians. I want to represent you as a proud, committed and happy student. Let s achieve our aims together! Carlota Mend. To me, being President of Runnymede's Student Council is a role that carries a lot of responsibility and importance. I believe conducting the role in an effective manner can have an impact not only on people's lives but it can also help build student awareness towards charitable causes, in addition to projecting the image of Runnymede School beyond our walls. My priorities would be: to increase the number of fundraising events during the year; to broaden the number of participants at each event; and to increase the amount of money raised. To achieve these goals, good planning, preparation and organisation during the events are key. I believe I am prepared to become President as I have formed part of the Student Council in previous years and I have also taken part in social activities such as helping the elderly in a retirement home (Caser Residencial Moraleja 2015-2016) as well as in the involvement of the Halloween Dance (2014) among others. Qualities that I consider important for an effective member/president of the Student Council and that I believe I have are: dedication, being a good motivator, positive energy, empathy, hard working and being a good listener. In summary, I consider the work of the Student Council as very important in that it adds a social dimension to our student life, and to that extent I would aim to dedicate time and effort to bring lots of fun, engaging events that will hopefully have a positive impact on the lives of the needy.

Rose S. Previous experience in Student Council, having been class rep for several years already Involvement in school activities, including drama, debate society, chief editor of school newspaper, Duke of Edinburgh award, and maths club Acquired good communication, negotiation and listening skills through these activities Inherent sense of fairness and transparency meaning I would do everything in my power to represent everyone equally Genuine interest in making the school a better place, as well as making as much money for charity as we possibly can! Sara V. 1) I'm an approachable person - I'm a person people find easy to talk to, and discuss their worries and opinions. 2) I'm very persistent - I never back down until I solve a problem, and I'm always determined to succeed, no matter how difficult that may be. 3) I'm receptive and flexible - I'm open to new ideas, suggestions and changes. If something isn't going right, it is because there is a need for a change. I also receive well opposing arguments and constructive criticism. 4) I'm selfless and empathetic - people's interests are my own, and I will take everyone into account in my decisions, no matter who they are, and make sure everyone is happy. I also deeply empathise with other people's emotions. 5) I'm organised and responsible - I'm good at planning and making schedules, tackling my priorities, keeping everything running smoothly and planning ahead. The runner up for President will become the Vice-President.

PRESIDENT: You must vote for one candidate: Beltrán G. Trust: You can rely on my word- I want to have a positive impact in this school. My promises become reality and I am not afraid to say what I think. When I was House Captain, I promised a new Common room and I delivered. Commitment: I will be 100% devoted to the student s council, I am concerned for the wellbeing of the students and I will do everything I can for them. I was Junior Prefect at my last school and the satisfaction I obtained by helping, really motivates me to continue serving. Organisation: A well-organised council is key for its success. I am the person capable of organising the council. I have done it before, having been secretary of the debating society for two years. And I will do it again for this school. Adaptability: This is the fourth school I come to and the one I have been most warmly welcome. I consider myself capable of moulding myself to the needs of others. Being able to work with everyone is what makes me the best candidate. Leadership: I have extensive experience as an influential and capable figure. Being president of the Classical Society at Repton School, has enabled me to work with groups of people and managing them. This school needs someone that will do work, someone that will help, someone that will improve this place. I am that Someone. Jaime M. These are the five points about myself showing why I am suitable for the job: 1. I am an actively charitable person; engaging once a week in voluntary work (service to elderly) and having volunteered abroad in Tanzania. 2. I am responsible in fulfilling my duties as well as a perfectionist. This means I will try my best when carrying out every task. 3.I consider myself in good terms with all the people in the sixth form and have many friends in younger year groups. I am approachable by everyone! 4. I have a lot of experience, having represented my class for 4 years in a row and being a Runnymedian since Year 5 (8 years now!). I know how things work around here 5. I m not shy when talking to teachers and wouldn t hesitate to convey your worries and needs to them. I WILL persuade them to respond! Thank you for your time and remember to vote for me!

Álvaro M. I consider myself to be organised as I learned to master time management and multi-tasking as I can balance multiple projects at once as I do in the school newspaper this year. I feel as I can successfully delegate different tasks to other members of the Council and liaise with them and with my superiors as well. I consider myself to be very engaging especially with new people and that I can provide a comfortable environment for all. I am a quick learner and I can adapt myself to any new environment. I think of myself as a team player and in a group, I could make it more efficient when, for example, completing a certain task or other duties in the school newspaper as I coordinate with my editors and writers. Juan R.F. My name is Juan Rodriguez-Fraile and i consider myself an appropriate person to be president because: I study history where we write lots of essays therefore I have a lot of experience with writing reports. I can speak in front of people without any problem which will make it much easier in meetings. I really care about all students. I m really easy to speak with, so if anybody has a problem I am always willing to help them. This school is in my heart and I want to make it the best place to learn, study and have fun for all of us. The runner up for President will become the Vice-President.

EVENTS OFFICERS: You must vote for three female candidates: Patricia B. I would like to present my candidacy for the position of event officer in the student council because: - I think it s important for us to organise different activities and introduce new ideas to collect money for the charity we will be working with this year, instead of doing the same thing every year - I am organised and responsible - I can work well in a team and I will try to ensure that we come up with as many plans as possible - I am creative and I think I can bring forward various ideas to organise different activities to help collect more money for the charity - I d like to work with people in other areas - such as marketing - to expand my knowledge and contribute as much as I can to the school Myriam C. I enclose the five points where I present the reasons why I should be considered as a valid candidate for Events Officer on the Student Council. I have been in this school long enough to know what works well and what students like. This is a great chance for me to work for, and be part of the school community, and it would be a mistake not to take it. Because I like challenges, and being a member of the student council is an appealing challenge for me. I want a to be part of a platform where I am able to share my ideas in order to help others. I have a passion for success which will push me to accomplish my set tasks. Irene R. These are my five bullet points to apply for the position of event officer - I am dedicated to helping raise money and doing everything possible to contribute to the charity we chose - I am organised and enjoy putting together and planning events as well as participating in these - I am willing to work to help the school achieve its full potential in regards to its ability to raise money. - I am comfortable communicating with students as well as teachers and members of the parent council - I will fight to give the students in lower years a chance to contribute and will try to put in motion any ideas they may have

Patricia R. 1) I want to get involved. 2) I'm a good team player. 3) I am creative. 4) I have experience. 5) I am persistent. Lucia S. Before going on my holiday in Orlando I made it my duty to research everything to do with each park, transportation routes between the parks and the hotel etc. By doing this I saved us a huge amount of time and instead we were able to use that time to make the most of our short time there. Therefore, I believe that I would be perfect for the job for I already have practise in organising events but also because I thoroughly enjoy the process too. I also made a series of notes using post-its in different colours to colour code the different information we needed to know into categories. Thus why I believe my organisation skills will come in handy for this responsibility. I like to believe that I make a good team player however I am not afraid to step up when needed which I think is a necessary quality to have when given a job like event planning. Even so, I believe that everybody's ideas should always be considered and that we must all be on agreeable terms (or a majority) before we put forth a plan or idea. Taking the subjects that I do, such as Drama, I like to think of myself as quite a creative person which will help when needing to come up with ideas for fundraising events. Lastly, after being in the school since year 1 (almost 12 years) I would love to give something back to show my appreciation to the school.

EVENTS OFFICERS: There are three male candidates, who have therefore been appointed. Nicholás F. - I m creative and come up with lots of ideas. I love organising events, such as games and fun activities for all year groups. - I am very articulate and will be able to communicate the events programme throughout the school. - I have a spontaneous sense of humour to break the ice at any events. - I work very well as a team, as shown with my involvement in Drama. - I get on very well with students from all year groups. I like to interact with different kinds of people with different interests. Antonio M. Fernando S. - I am an effective worker and keep on top of tasks. - I have enthusiasm to make the student council better and more effective in doing its duties. - I am a hard working student and will encourage my colleagues in other posts to try their best and provide my help if they need it. - I m passionate about always trying my best and will give my 100% potential to my post at the student council - I am a team player and I will always listen to what my team mates have to say regarding a subject and never disregard their opinion just because it s different. - Planning events is something I ve always been interested in and have experience in this area as I have often been in charge of organising parties for friends and cousins. - Having been in this school for many years, I have ideas as to how we could improve events we have every year (such as bake sales), as well as new ones we could introduce to raise more money for charity, and which of these would be successful at Runnymede. - As I have attended Runnymede since Nursery, I think that being involved in the student council is finally an opportunity to give something back to the school community which I have been a part of for so long. - The events we hold at Runnymede aim to raise money for charity, something I would like to contribute to, as the causes we support are always very positive and deserving. - I am hard-working and determined, and will always do my best to ensure that any ideas suggested to me by students are carried out.

TREASURERS: There are two candidates, who have therefore been appointed. Jimena G. 5 points for which I would like to be treasurer: - I would be a dedicated and committed member of the Student Council that will take a personal concern for charitable fund-raising and responsible expenditure. - I have previous experience in fund-handling as I manage stocks, thereby I am a suitable candidate for said position. - I am a creative individual, so I will be able to come up with different and innovative ways to generate, save and spend funds. - I am a very organised and methodical student, my personality will limit confusion when handling money - I promise to be transparent with regards to fund-handling and will be open to compromise when allocating the budget Eduardo G. I believe I am fit for the position of treasurer because: I am honest, trustworthy and transparent. This shows that I would responsibly work with money. Secondly, I have good interpersonal skills, which allow me to communicate effectively with other students or teachers of the school. The fact that I enjoy working with numbers and I am good at it makes me a potentially successful treasurer. Therefore, I will keep count of the money the Student Council raises and support the needs of the Council. Additionally, I acquired the ability to work in teams because I played in a basketball team for 5 years. With my collaboration, I ensure that we will present an outstanding result. Finally, I am determined, hard-working and willing to spend as much time as necessary working for the Council. Overall, I just want to bring a positive change and create a more efficient image of the Treasury.

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS OFFICERS: You must vote for two female candidates: Dana A. - I am used to working in teamwork environments, as a part of the Runnymede Volleyball Girls team and the debate club and I believe these skills will be very useful in working collectively with the other student council members to come up with creative ideas to raise money. - I think that I am someone with good communication skills mainly as a result of my passion for Drama, haven been a part of the drama club for five years and taken the subject for both IGCSE and A-level, and also contributed in the Runnymede debate club. This will benefit in communicating with others to put forward my ideas and hopefully add to the student council. - I have always been interested in business and marketing, and have had work experience in this sector working at Paper Makers and Traders S.L and this would be an ideal opportunity to develop my communication and marketing skills further for my future. - Surprisingly, I am an organised person who I think is generally good at working under stress and meeting deadlines which will be vital in efficiently achieving our goals for this year. - I have been in Runnymede for 9 years now and I feel a great connection to the environment in which I have learnt, and grown. Hence I would be very excited to be a part of Runnymede s student council and be given the opportunity of making our school a better place (even though that sounds very cliche), creating memories, and most importantly raising as much money as possible for those in need. María G. I would like to apply for the position of marketing officer in the student council. This is why you should consider me: - I am very dedicated and serious with my work. - I am willing to dedicate all my time available to fulfil my duty successfully. - I am creative and have good art skills. - I can be very persuasive - I am very interested in marketing and communications, it could be a career to pursue when I am applying to college so I would be very committed.

Beatriz R. I have done art as an IGCSE, so I have knowledge about graphic design and how to make things to attire people. I consider myself creative and could find interesting ways for events and clubs to appeal to students. I understand the importance of having fun during school so I will help the event organizers come up with fun and good ideas to collect funds. I have lots of free time and can therefore dedicate a lot of time and effort to my job in the student council. I am aware of the difficulties many people face and therefore wish to help raise funds for those who are in need.

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS OFFICERS: There are two candidates, who have therefore been appointed. Daniel C. I took a two year Graphic Communication course for GCSE and got an A*. I am open minded, experimental and willing to try out new things. I am very conscious and aware of diversity and culture given the four years I have lived in Asia. I am a good communicator and very sociable, as well as not being afraid to talk to strangers. I am really interested in marketing and I want to do this job. Tomás S. I would like to apply for the post of marketing official for the student council. This are the qualities I can offer the school: -First of all I am a very capable student willing to sacrifice time in order to offer a special service to the school, as well as to learn valuable skills for the nearby future. -I am also very easy to talk to, as I am a very open student. -I feel very comfortable doing group projects as well as working alone. -I've also been already quite a few years at Runnymede, thus acquiring the knowledge of the various clubs and activities that need to be advertised. -I am also a creative student, eager to project new and fun ideas in every poster I do. -Finally, I feel that I am motivated and prepared for this commitment, and I truly want to make Runnymede a more informed school through the use of advertisement. I want to make Runnymede great again!
