CALL TO WORSHIP (responsive) Come, dwell in the shelter of the Most High, abide in the shadow of the Almighty. God is our refuge and our fortress; in God we trust. God will deliver you from the terrors of the night; in this place, you will find the shelter of God s wings. God is with us as we gather; God will keep us wherever we go. Pause to experience the grace of God; know that God values you, individually and together. How awesome is this place! It is none other than the house of God and the gate of heaven. *HYMN *HYMN Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty Hymnal # 403 *PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) Loving God, you know our hidden thoughts and deeds. You judge us in our disobedience and lack of faith. We aspire to honors we do not deserve and to places of privilege you do not intend. Our sins not only injure us but also hurt other people. O God, deliver us from ourselves, that we may learn from Jesus our teacher. Turn us away from unworthy aspirations, that we may identify fully with those whom we seek to serve. Unite us with all your children, learning and serving together. Amen.
*WORDS OF ASSURANCE (responsive) Forgiveness is God s free gift to us, needing only to be received with penitent hearts. By the grace of God, we are made righteous in Jesus Christ. Our God, who led our ancestors in faith, will also lead us where we need to go. Thanks be to God! *RESPONSE *RESPONSE Holy Ground Hymnal # 406 A TIME WITH CHILDREN PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION (unison) Jan Mahoney O God, whose ways we do not understand, we bring our anxiety and resentment to this time of seeking your Word through the scriptures. We know there is confusion all around and terror in the night. We hesitate to speak up for what we believe and wait for someone else to step up and give of themselves. We fear people not like us and are frightened by your judgment. Break through our limited perceptions today. Reassure us in your Word and help us to find our place in your story. Amen.
