Dear CTR Parishioners, It seems hard to believe we are just through with the Christmas season and headed on to Lent within a few weeks. I wanted to follow-up with a report on just how your very generous Giving Tree donations were used throughout our pantry. 185 families shopped the Giving Tree Thrift Shop at our Leesburg pantry 12 families were seniors only 34 families were all adults (adults and seniors) 139 families with children Over 1,000 items of clothing, blankets, toys, jewelry, shoes, coats and household items were taken home by our families. I hope this gives you joy knowing how many in our community you helped with making sure that they were able to provide warm coats for their children and Christmas gifts for their families when otherwise they would not have been able to. Thank you again for your generosity and to Bridget, along with Cindy, her husband and all other volunteers who sacrificed their time with sorting and dropping off the donations at the pantry. INITIATION RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS (RCIA) For this purpose have I come. Today we hear about the Jesus that is often made into a stereotype. He is the wonder healer of the sick and the one who casts out demons. But on closer inspection, today s reading also tells us about Job, beset with doubts and a troubled life. The Psalm speaks of a God who consoles the broken hearted, and St. Paul speaks of sharing in weakness and suffering so as to have a share and bring the Good News to the weak and suffering. Equally striking is that when Jesus heals the sick mother of his first disciples, she immediately gets up and begins to prepare a meal for them. Similarly, after healing everyone for the day, Jesus retires to be strengthened by prayer before moving on to the next town. God restores us from our brokenness and empowers us to do the same for others. Let Jesus purpose enliven you to be a New Life and purpose for others. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming Catholic and celebrating Baptism, Confirmation and Communion, or if you are from a different denomination and interested in knowing more about being Catholic, please contact Jay Cuasay, Director of Christian Formation at 703-430-0811 ext. 130 or Jay.Cuasay@ctrcc.org. The National Day of Prayer for the African American and African Family / Rosary Conference Call This special day of prayer was founded by Fr. James Goode, OFM in 1989. It is a day set aside to give special thanks to God for our families and place our every care in the arms of Jesus. It occurs each year on the First Sunday in February, Black History Month. This is the 30th year that this event has been celebrated. The theme for this year is Share the Journey. Let Us Pray: Let us stir up an attitude of gratitude in praise for Our God s infinite mercy and love. No One or nothing can outdo God s mercy extended to us even when we don t recognize God s unchanging hand. As we journey towards holiness and slip and slide through life, God s mercy has been the safety net catching us, preventing us from downward spirals that could propel us into a grave of deathly situations and spiritual disasters. We all have testimonies when we have been tested and found God s grace and mercy keeps pace with whatever we face. You can trust in God s mercy. In The Face of God Pope Francis writes Mercy is the ultimate and supreme act by which God comes to meet us. Yes, we have met God s mercy and it has strengthen us along the journey. God s mercy has allowed us to spiritually ascend from some dark places and slippery corridors of our lives. We recognize that the hand of God has led us and guides us when we were broke, busted and disgusted. Great is God s Mercy, Trusted and Tested! We recognize that time and time again, that Jesus; the face of mercy, showed up in our lives as we travelled our road to Emmaus or when the heat in our kitchen got so hot and needed to be turned down. Great is God s Mercy for the Lord is our Shepherd there is nothing we shall want. God gives cool breeze when we need to lay down in His Verdant Pastures. We know that God s grace and mercy always rushes in right on time when there is floating chaos in our lives. We respect and recognize that God s grace is bigger than the challenge we face. We understand the language of holding on and we ve been fueled by the power that comes from the realization that we only go through, only got over by the Grace and Mercy of God. Our spiritual path must be drenched in showing mercy to each other in our Families, in our Communities, and in our World. Trusted and Tested Our God in merciful. Our God comes to meet us in His acts of mercy so Have no anxiety at all Instead, shout your testimony and tell the whole world about it! Share the Journey That is how we Praise God. Therese Wilson Favors To join in celebration of this prayerful event, the Black Catholic Ministries of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington s Office of Multicultural Ministries will host a Black Catholic Rosary Across America Conference Call Monday, February 5, 2018 at noon (EST) / Call 641-715-3580 /Access Code 951981 ALL ARE WELCOME! How will you share your journey?
