Please bring your non-perishable food items to be given to the needy of our area. For I was hungry and you gave me to eat - Matthew 25:35 Campus Safety As the holiday season approaches, please do not leave your purse or any valuables visible on the seats or floor of your car. Please place all of your valuables in the trunk of your vehicle in order to avoid anyone who might be tempted to something the Lord would not want them to do. It is recommended that you do not give cash to anyone soliciting money. This only encourages repeat behavior and is somewhat fearful to those in the Adoration Chapel and the elderly. If you want to support the needy, then give to the St. Vincent de Paul Society where your generosity will surely help the poor and hungry. THE SEASON OF GIVING In this Holy Season of the Savior s birth, I cannot think of a more beautiful and holy place to worship our Lord Jesus Christ than here at Our Lady of Mercy. Our parish provides tremendous opportunities to celebrate the Sacraments of Holy Mass and Confession. Our strong witness to the power of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament in the Adoration Chapel, and our commitment to St. Vincent de Paul and our outreach to the poor and needy, truly are a bright light in a world that can seem very dark. Our Lady of Mercy functions not only as a vibrant and active church family but also as a shrine for the City of Baton Rouge and our Diocese. The doors of Mercy are open to everyone. That is why one of the best charities that you can support during the Christmas Season with your end of the year financial giving, is our own parish. So many people are affected in a good and positive way when you support your church family. If you love the legacy of Mercy and want to continue the light of Christ shining so brightly, I encourage your continued faithful giving in this season of offering our generous heart to God. God Bless Mercy s faithful families and may the Light of Christ shine more brightly through us. Merry Christmas! Fr. Cleo BATON ROUGE, LA 3

Our Lady of Mercy has nourished the spiritual life of so many parishioners and those throughout the Diocese who come here. A Memorial Gift to our Traditions for Tomorrow Building Campaign is a wonderful way to acknowledge the lives of our beloved dead with a gift of loving generosity to the church that has been such a spiritual home. Gomes was a native of Colombia, and visited Our Lady of Mercy every summer in the month of July. He was unable to be with us this past July due to his declining health. He passed away in his beloved country. He shall always be fondly remembered for his warm smile, gentle spirit, and great love and devotion to Holy Mother Church. May God grant Fr. OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE In 1531, The Blessed Lady appeared to Juan Diego, an Indian, in the mountains near Guadalupe, Mexico. Diego was told by Mary to go to the local Bishop and request that a church be constructed there in her honor. The Bishop claimed he needed a sign from God so the request was refused. Mary once again appeared to Diego and told him to pick some roses from the mountain top. Diego, puzzled by the appeal since it was winter and no roses were growing at the time, went as instructed and indeed found the roses as Mary told him and placed them in his tilma. Upon his second visit to the Bishop, Diego opened the tilma and the roses fell to the floor. In their place was the beautiful picture of Our Lady which was made part of the tilma. She is depicted as an Indian woman who is expecting a child. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patroness of Mexico and of the pro-life movement. The large Basilica in Guadalupe is the most visited Marian shrine in the world. We will celebrate her Feast Day at the 12:00 Noon Mass on Tuesday, December 12th.
