4 5 MESSAGE FROM OUR VISIONARY PASTORS OUR VISION River East London is a place where the uncompromised Word of God is preached, so that every man and woman may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). This is a place where people enter into the presence of God through anointed praise and worship. They have their needs met as they enter the Throne Room of their Saviour. In return they receive all the strength, joy and peace that He has for them. Here is no tradition, religion or pretences. We meet with God, feel His touch and allow Him free reign. His will is permitted and honoured in our lives. We gather without fear or intimidation. We yield to the Spirit of God, we are set free and we are made whole! River East London has its hope and confidence in the Lord, as a tree planted by the waters with its roots alongside the river. PURPOSE (WHY?) To usher God s people into the fullness of His covenant promises and prosperity, endeavouring to walk in His manifest presence and wisdom. VISION (HOW?) Encouraging God s people to enter His Presence, through the door of worship. Celebrating together as saints, in His Goodness and Glory Sitting under the anointing, of the words of truth. To fellowship day by day, from house to house. STRATEGY (WHAT?) 6 7 OUR DREAMS We dream of a continually anointed ministry, whose faith level facilitates the daily occurrence of signs, wonders and miracles. We dream of a ministry that will impact the greater East London area, from which a national network of ministries will be established. We dream of a ministry that truly desires to worship God, and through praise take His Presence to the people of the greater East London area and beyond. We dream of a ministry where people from all walks of life will find unconditional love and acceptance, being developed to spiritual maturity, ministering to the whole man (spirit, soul and body). We dream of a ministry with 20 000 partners and a leadership strong and united in the power of the Holy Spirit shepherding the flock efficiently and effectively. We dream of a church in which 1000 cell groups are united in their purpose for reaching the lost, feeding the poor, clothing the naked, taking care of the orphans and widows, and spreading revival wherever they go. We dream of a facility that will house the needs of the full Ministry - encompassing a Worship Auditorium seating thousands, Bible School, Christian School, Old Age Home, Conference Centre, Television and Recording Studios, Radio Station, and Administration Facilities. We dream of a ministry with 20 000 partners and a leadership strong and united in the power of the Holy Spirit shepherding the flock efficiently and effectively. We dream of a church in which 1000 cell groups are united in their purpose for reaching the lost, feeding the poor, clothing the naked, taking care of the orphans and widows, and spreading revival wherever they go. We dream of a ministry that is continually active in equipping every person for significant ministry, helping them discover their Godly gifts and talents; reaching and touching lives seven days a week, drawing people from all over South Africa to receive and experience the power of God to the benefit of their own communities. We dream of a unity among the Pastors of the city that will lead to a communal harvesting - spiritual, emotional and financial - for the advancing of the Kingdom of God. 8 9 WHAT WE BELIEVE We believe in God as the Supreme Creator of all and that He has a deep desire to fellowship with us. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that through Him we have full access to a relationship with God. We believe that the Holy Spirit is our Guide and Counsellor, and lives in and through us. We believe that the Bible is the ultimate authority on daily living, and is in fact the very Word of God. We believe that all people are in need of a Saviour to experience a full life in the presence of God, and that our congregation provides a place where all can grow in wisdom and love. MESSAGE FROM OUR LEAD PASTORS It is our dream to see the pure river of God burst through not only the Church, but into the streets of the city and beyond, transforming lives with the presence, power and fire of God. We are committed to see you and your family discover your identity, purpose and destiny in Christ Jesus, by helping you grow in wisdom, in stature and in favour with God and man (Luke 2:52). A wise man once said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with taking the first step. It is our prayer that you will take that first step and journey with us, so that together, we will go from victory to victory, strength to strength and glory to glory. Like the early church in the book of Acts, we not only assemble together on a Sunday, but we meet in small groups all around the city, seven days a week. 10 11 CELLS PARTNERSHIP A Cell Group is a group of 3-12 people who gather together on a weekly basis. The purpose of a Cell Group is meant to edify, build up and equip one another, by teaching the Word of God, praying for people s needs, and motivating each person to become a disciple, ready to disciple. It is in this environment that we learn, grow and thrive alongside other believers, hilst discovering our identity, purpose and destiny. Belonging to a Cell Group and attending an Encounter Weekend is essential and forms part of the discipleship backbone of River East London. The Encounter Weekend is a spirit-filled three-day ministry held separately for men and women. We aim to host such a weekend away, at least once per term. An Encounter is the first experience of coming face to face with God and His Word. During this time, you not only identify and completely uproot everything that came to steal, kill or destroy your life, but you will also be able to reflect on your daily life and in faith, plan for a better future. Please speak to one of the Pastors or Leaders after one of our Sunday services or contact us and we will help you find a Cell group and connect you to a Cell Leader in your area. We welcome new partners to River East London on a regular basis. These are people who feel that the Lord has called them to our family and that they want to make a commitment to become involved more permanently. Riverband is responsible for leading the congregation at The River in worship at all their services, as well as all conferences. Musicians from Riverband also help out with the worship at The River in Port Alfred as well as Youth services. To date Riverband has released three solo worhsip CD s (the Last, Calling, also released on DVD), as well as a full collaboration CD project with saxophonist, Barry Snyman. The solo CD s include well known songs as well as many original songs birthed at The River.
