ANCESTORS APPROVED FOR MEMBERSHIP Listed are ancestors as approved by the Committees on Ancestral Eligibility and Lineage, and the Council of the Society. Those passengers whose names are CAPITALIZED have been claimed by members. Only the person from whom descent is claimed is indicated, though obviously the claimant also descends from the spouse as well. Inasmuch as there were passengers on the Welcome and other ships of Penn's fleet whose names do not appear on the following list, it is required that candidates for membership applying in descent from such passengers shall furnish satisfactory and conclusive proof from high quality, reliable sources that their ancestors come within the terms of the Society's Rules of Eligibility. Further information may be obtained from the Welcome Society's Penn's Colony publications: Passengers and Ships Prior to 1684 by Walter Lee Sheppard, Jr. (1970 with reprints) and Welcome Claimants: Proved, Disproved, and Doubtful by George E. McCracken (1970 with reprints). Both are widely available in libraries throughout the country. Potential applicants should be aware that the list of eligible ancestors may be altered by more recent research.
