The Principles of the Doctrine of Christ
Lesson 3 Faith Toward God
Isaiah 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

Just as the first principle is not REPENTANCE but rather repentance from dead works, Hebrews 6:1-2 1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
Just as the first principle is not REPENTANCE but rather repentance from dead works, the second principle is not just FAITH but rather faith toward God. Hebrews 6:1-2 1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
Faith by itself is nothing.
Putting faith in idols makes them no less vain. Faith by itself is nothing. Putting faith in idols makes them no less vain. Psalm 115:4-8 4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. 5 They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not: 6 They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: 7 They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat. 8 They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.
Faith by itself is nothing. Putting faith in idols makes them no less vain. Lacking faith in God makes his promises no less true.
Romans 3:3-4a 3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? 4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar

Romans 3:3-4a 3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? 4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar What matters is where faith is directed:
Faith by itself is nothing. Putting faith in idols makes them no less vain. Lacking faith in God makes his promises no less true. What matters is where faith is directed: 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
Faith is like an electric cord. Alone it is powerless. You choose where you plug it in.
Ezekiel said, Turn ye from you evil ways.
Ezekiel said, Turn ye from you evil ways. To turn AWAY from sin, you must know what to turn TOWARD.
Ezekiel said, Turn ye from you evil ways. To turn AWAY from sin, you must know what to turn TOWARD. You can know what is WRONG and still not know what is RIGHT.
Ezekiel said, Turn ye from you evil ways. To turn AWAY from sin, you must know what to turn TOWARD. You can know what is WRONG and still not know what is RIGHT. We need to repent and believe the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Ezekiel said, Turn ye from you evil ways. To turn AWAY from sin, you must know what to turn TOWARD. You can know what is WRONG and still not know what is RIGHT. Mark 1:14-15 14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. We need to repent and believe the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The journey from REPENTANCE FROM DEAD WORKS to FAITH TOWARD GOD is somewhat different for the Jew and Gentile because the Gentiles were never subject to the Law of Moses.
Although since the days of Peter and Paul, there have been Christians who want to put themselves and others under the yoke of bondage.
Although since the days of Peter and Paul, there have been Christians who want to put themselves and others under the yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1, 4 1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
Although since the days of Peter and Paul, there have been Christians who want to put themselves and others under the yoke of bondage. Even a good work becomes a DEAD work when it is done in order to get or stay saved.
Each man must realize his inability to make himself righteous before God. Galatians 5:1, 4 1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

He is then ready to invest his faith solely in the cross of Christ.
The Gentile turns from worshipping idols to serve the living and true God.
1 Thessalonians 1:8-9 8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing. 9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;
The Jew turns from faith in his own works to faith in the work of Jesus Christ.
Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
When seeking the righteousness of God, the only work that is not a dead work is to believe on Christ.
When seeking the righteousness of God, the only work that is not a dead work is to believe on Christ. John 6:28-29 28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
No other name holds the key to salvation.
When seeking the righteousness of God, the only work that is not a dead work is to believe on Christ. Acts 4:11-12 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. No other name holds the key to salvation.
This is the name the Jews stumbled over and the Gentiles considered foolish. Acts 4:11-12 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
This is the name the Jews stumbled over and the Gentiles considered foolish. 1 Corinthians 1:23-24 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
This is the name the Jews stumbled over and the Gentiles considered foolish. The converted Gentile now knows Christ is the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:23-24 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

The converted Jew acknowledges Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth (Rom. 10:4).
Now the door to salvation opens to whosoever believeth on him.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 9:33 As it is written [in Isa. 28:16], Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Romans 10:11, 13 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Our faith is no longer in our own dead works but in the blessed work of Christ on the cross.
Our faith is no longer in our own dead works but in the blessed work of Christ on the cross. Titus 3:5-6 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
Our faith is no longer in our own dead works but in the blessed work of Christ on the cross. Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Our faith is no longer in our own dead works but in the blessed work of Christ on the cross. This is the call to salvation: Repent and BELIEVE!
Acts 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
