Page Three: Twenty-Ninth Sunday In Ordinary Time, October 16, 2016 Dear Parishioners: A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR S DESK In this Sunday s Gospel from Luke 18: 1-8, Jesus teaches us to pray always without becoming weary. How should we pray? He gives the example of a persistent widow who pesters a dishonest judge to render her a just decision against her adversary. Because of her persistence, the judge gives in to her demands. Jesus tells us that God will be swift in ensuring that justice is done for us. However, he asks, But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth. He is talking about the end of time, at the final judgement, will he find us faithful to God, or have we all gone astray, each to his own selfish ways? While we are quick to demand justice from God against our adversary, have we acted justly by being faithful to the will of God, or have we put our trust in the very agents of Satan? The world has many false prophets who make empty promises. How do you know what comes from God, and what comes from the devil? By their fruits you will know them. A rotten tree cannot give you good fruit (Mt 7: 15-20). That s why Jesus teaches us to pray always without giving in to our tireness. St Paul also tells the Thessalonians to pray without ceasing (1Th 5: 17). But pray for what? Pray that we do not betray the vocation of God for each one of us to live the new life of being a Christian. God has called us to the discipleship of Christianity; to have faith in God which means to be faithful to God s teachings so that his Holy Spirit will bring to fulfillment in us, all the promises of God. Once we abandon God s ways, the Holy Spirit leaves us. But if we pray constantly to be faithful to God, His Spirit and our spirit bears united witness that we are children of God, co-heirs with Christ, sharing the suffering and the glory of Christ (Rm 8: 16-17). - Fr. Basil. FOOD PANTRY SOCIAL CONCERNS COMMITTEE We are collecting Food Donations for our Food Pantry, it is very low on items. We are in need of: Canned Soup, Canned Fruit, Cereals, Sugar, Coffee, Tea, Ham, Chicken, Turkey, Stuffing, Pasta Sauce, Mac & Cheese, Tuna, Cake Mix and Pudding. PLEASE, NO CANNED VEGETABLES. Items can be left in the Vestibule of the Church during Sunday Masses or at the Parish Rectory Office daily From 9am-4pm, or call the Parish Office: (973)-743-0220. REPORTING OF SEXUAL ABUSE HOW TO REPORT ABUSE The Archdiocese takes very seriously any and all allegations of sexual misconduct by members of the Clergy, Religious and Lay Staff of the Archdiocese.
