John Parish (photo 1), and to Zara Jane, daughter of george and Ramenaden grimes (photo 2), and hudson thomas, son of matthew and carly athey (photo 3), both of st. cecilia Parish. 1 CongrAtulAtionS! tim schnieber and amy hagner (photo 4) celebrated the sacrament of matrimony on aug. 25. 1 first SChool mass: the st. cecilia students have been going into church to learn about how to genuflect, sit still, sit quietly, hold their hands in prayer, and act appropriately during mass (photo 5). i was able to catch the kindergartners practicing. it was so nice to see how serious they were when they came up the aisle with their hands in prayer. the teachers have done a very nice job teaching the children about reverence, and it showed at our first school mass. 1 ChAnging table: We have so many babies at st. cecilia, and i love it! for this reason, we wanted to make it easier for our parents of little ones. We have a new changing table, and it is in our bathroom in the vestibule (photo 6). We will have another changing table downstairs once the bathrooms are completed, but for now, we have the changing table in the main floor bathroom. i hope this helps during our renovation. 1 first day of SChool At St. CeCiliA: another school year has started, and we were so lucky to have cool weather to welcome our students back. it was nice to visit with the parents and students as school let out the first day (photos 7-9). there was lots of excitement shared by the children and the teachers. 8 6 7 9

focus on J ustice 7 catholic social teaching is a central and essential element of our faith. its roots are in the hebrew prophets who announced god s special love for the poor and called god s people to a covenant of love and justice. it is a teaching founded on the life and words of Jesus christ, who came to bring glad tidings to the poor... liberty to captives... recovery of sight to the blind (lk 4:18-19), and who identified himself with the least of these, the hungry and the stranger (cf. mt 25:45). catholic social teaching is built on a commitment to the poor. this commitment arises from our experiences of christ in the eucharist. www.usccb.org catholic social teaching st. anthony Pig Roast! many non-catholics stand in great admiration of catholic social teaching, but many catholics do not even know what it is. over the next several months, the st. anthony Peace & Justice committee is planning to highlight the 7 themes of cst and the activities that demonstrate how to live those teachings. if you would like to learn more about the themes, visit the us conference of catholic bishops website and search catholic social teaching. the first teaching that we will explore in october is the life and dignity of the human Person. after the single 10 am mass on september 30, all are invited to the return of the st. anthony Pig Roast. the friday morning men s group will sacrifice a good night s sleep to cook the pig and parishioners will provide the rest of the meal. this is always a fun event, so mark your calendar. further details will be coming soon. st. anthony Peace & Justice committee the monthly meeting of the committee will take place on tuesday, sept. 11, at 6:30 Pm in the st. anthony Parish center. all are welcome. if you have any questions, contact the parish office at st. anthony. 4-Part series: cincinnati s catholic history fr. david endres, dean of the athenaeum and professor of church history, will explore the history of our archdiocese as we approach our bicentennial. his multimedia presentations will explain how irish and german immigrants, despite persecution, transformed the city s catholic presence, building an impressive network of churches, schools, and charities. he will discuss changes in the twentieth century, including the explosion of catholic schools and the changes brought by the 1960s and vatican ii. the presentations will show how the catholic history of our city still reverberates today. come to one or all four sessions, held from 7-9 Pm, at st. mary church, 2853 erie ave 45208. monday, september 24: Pioneers (1821-1840) monday, october 1: immigrants (1840-1883) monday, october 8: growth and Progress (1883-1950) monday, october 15: change and continuity (1950-2018) there is no charge for the series. for more information contact, margaret shank at 321-1207, ext. 8400. madisonville habitat house the 2018 habitat for humanity build site in madisonville is right around the corner from st. anthony church. the madisonville coalition is a group of about 10 churches that rotate working on saturdays. there is also a Wednesday crew, with varying levels of construction skills. anyone who is free on Wednesdays and interested in participating is welcome to join them. st anthony parishioners mark mccarthy and Joe scheid have been volunteering and would be happy to tell you more about the project. volunteers needed: hospice of cincinnati hospice of cincinnati needs volunteers to serve meals and visit our patients in their four inpatient care centers (blue ash, twin towers (West), anderson, hamilton). in addition they need friendly visitor volunteers to visit our hospice patients in their homes and in nursing homes. they also need volunteers to serve meals and visit our patients in their inpatient care centers. eucharistic ministers, escort/greeters and clerical support are also needed. a comprehensive training is scheduled on october 13 at the hospice of cincinnati blue ash inpatient care center, 4310 cooper Rd., cincinnati 45242.
