North-East Position to sit to perform Pooja : To sit facing North and the Gods should be east facing. This is the most ideal placement (north is considered Kubera Moola ). It is the duty of every Hindu to understand the tenets of rituals and perform Prayers based on enshrined guidance to obtain knowledge, good health, energy to sustain, increase memory power, removal of poverty etc. The very word Pooja means to Worship. Various aspects of rituals are called Upacharas in Sanskrit, this literally means submission of services to the Almighty. Poojas are conducted by individuals at Home or collectively at Temples or gatherings at an auspicious occasion. The Pooja performed at home is called Panchayadana Pooja in which Five elements of God is invoked and presented with various Ablutions, Alankarams and Offerings. This is one of the ancient worship from Vedic times. There are sixteen types of Poojas called Shodashopajara Pooja in which offering of Clothes, Ornaments, Sandalpaste, Flowers, Fragrances are offered to the Beloved God. Similar to what we enjoy, we too make the God to enjoy these, though He remains unattached. As we honour our guests while welcoming them to our home, the God also is to be offered elaborately in a sixteen step Pooja where we include songs, dance, chariots, elephant, songs, horse riding, recitation of Vedas, Prostration. We welcome Gods (Swagatham) and to Sit (Aasanam) followed by requesting Them to wash Their Feet (Paadyam), to wash the Hands (Arghyam), Offering water to sip and rinse Mouth (Aachamanam), Sacred Bathing (Snaanam), Daubing of Ghandam (Sandal paste), Offering Them with fragrance flowers (Pushpam), Showing Incense (Dhoopam), Waving Holy Lamp (Deepam), Offering Naivedhyams (Shudhdhannam), Offering Thamboolam (Betel leaves, nuts and Banana for digestion), Prostration (Namaskarams), circumambulating (Pradakshinam), and Seeting Them Off (Visarjanam) after the Pooja is over. All these actions, if performed in a shortened way, will take about an hour. *************
