African Methodist Episcopal Church Albany-Valdosta District South Georgia Conference Reverend Jacqueline D. Smith, Presiding Elder Brother Charles D. Smith Area Supervisor and Conference Church School Superintendent Greetings from the Presiding Elder

Are we yet alive to see each other s face? What troubles have we seen, what conflicts have we survived? Through it all, God has truly been with us and brought us through it all. Therefore, we must forever give Him all the PRAISE, GLORY and HONOR! I give thanks and praise to God, who has united us together once again. We are blessed to be counted amongst the living. We are grateful to the Bethel A.M.E. Church family: Host pastor, Reverend Ernest Davis, Jr. for their tireless efforts and preparations for our Church School Convention. We are looking forward to an awesome fellowship! A fellowship empowered by the Holy Spirit. An atmosphere of praise, worship and training where the captives can be set free and the bond can be delivered. Let us have a spirit of expectation to allow God to use us in a mighty way as we minister in love so that the lost can be saved. Let s praise God in a mighty way for all of His blessings. Brother Smith and I encourage each of you to keep moving with the Spirit of God, work faithfully unto the Lord for He will give you your reward. Most of all allow the Lord to order your steps as you go forth to do the work in the vineyard that needs to be done. When we focus on God, not ourselves or others and use the talents He has given us to bless His kingdom, naturally we will reap the benefits and blessings of abundance. So, don t worry about tomorrow. Jesus is already there, willing, ready to provide. We thank God for your presence. Be encouraged and continue to press toward the mark, of a higher calling to win the prize. Reverend Jacqueline D. Smith Presiding Elder Brother Charles D. Smith Area Supervisor and Conference Church School Superintendent (President-SGC Minister s Spouses, Widows, and Widowers Organization Plus, P.K. s) Notes Program Format

Reverend Ernest Davis, Jr. Host Pastor Reverend Kelly Faulk BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS Jesus said, Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God (Matthew 5:9). How can we be the peacemakers Jesus calls us to be? Let s look at some ways to avoid fighting: 1. Cool off. 2. Talk it out. 3. Talk it out. 4. Really listen. 5. Compromise. 6. Take turns. 7. Ask for help. 8. Apologize. 9. Pray.

Nave The controlled division of the church in which the congregation is seated. One should enter this portion of the church reverently and sit quietly. Entering the Nave Upon entering the Nave, the Ushers should close the doors immediately following the entrance of the processional. Doors that enter the Nave should remain closed during the Call of Worship. Doors should be open for other worshipers to enter during the singing of the Opening Hymn. Doors then should be opened during the Anthem. Doors are closed during the Scripture, Decalogue and Alter Call. Latecomers should be seated near the rear of the church or in the balcony at this point on to avoid distractions. Sanctuary The sacred portion of the church in which the Altar is a consecrated place. Altar Rail The Altar Rail separates the Altar, the sacred portion, from the Nave. This rail encloses the Sanctuary and is used by the worshippers to pray and receive Holy Communion. Altar The holy table on which noting is placed except consecrated articles. The Pulpit and lectern, where there is a divided Altar, each deserves proper respect for its particular use. Note: Worshipers should not cross in front of the Altar at any time during service. Sermon Persons arriving late should be seated in the rear or in the balcony after the sermon begins. All seating, moving around and talking should be limited to a minimum at all times. Ushers, Choir members and worshipers should adhere to the rules. Note: You should never chew gum during services and meetings. End of Service The end of the Service is as important as the beginning. Last impressions are lasting impressions. Speak quietly to visitors and friends.

Reverend Roy J. Brown, Jr. Reverend Roy J. Brown, Jr. was born on February 25, 1956 in Opalocka, Florida. He was the second child born to the late Roy J. Brown, Sr. and the late Hattie L. Brown. During his youth he was very active at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Opa-locka, Florida. He was a member of the Youth choir, Church school, Junior Steward Board and Y.P.D. Reverend Brown received his education through the Dade County School System where he attained his high school diploma from North Miami Beach High School. He also earned his Associates Degree from the Community College of the Air Force in Logistic Management and is currently pursuing his Bachelors degree in Business Management. Reverend Brown joined the United States Air Force in 1979. He served as an Inventory Management Specialist at Homestead AFB, FL, RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom, Eglin AFB, FL, Augsburg, Germany, Hurlburt Field, FL, USAF Recruiting Squadron Lakeland, FL, and Moody AFB, GA. He retired at Moody AFB, GA after serving honorably for 20 years. On August 11, 1984 Reverend Brown and Vida M, Lyner were joined in holy matrimony and with this union two children were born, Romney Joslyn and Alistair Jeron. In 1994, Revered Brown while still serving in the US Air Force was moved to Moody AFB, GA where he joined Greater St. Peter A.M.E. Church. It was there where he was called by God to preach the gospel. He was ordained an Itinerant Deacon on March 21, 1999, and ordained and Itinerant Elder on March 23, 2001. Since then he has served at the following churches: St. James A.M.E., Nashville, GA, Plains Circuit, Plains, GA., Bronwood Circuit, Bronwood, GA, Mt. Zion A.M.E., Valdosta, GA, Little Bethel A.M.E., Cairo, GA, and St. John A.M.E., Boston, GA. Reverend Brown is currently serving as the pastor of Payton A.M.E. Church in Valdosta, GA. Church Etiquette Etiquette: The Conduct or procedure required by good breeding or prescribed by authority to be observed in social or official life. Church etiquette is defined as the rules we should follow and the respect that we should have and practice daily. Various sources were searched for information. The Usher s Handbook, prepared and printed by Rev. J.C. Granberry, Jr., is very helpful. In the handbook, which was written by the late Rev. Ransom McCoy, Sr., the author states that, The Lord s servants should ask to achieve excellence in whatever their hands find to do. This applies to all who profess to be God s servants. Ushers are the host and hostesses, the doorkeepers in the house of the Lord and should be respected by worshipers as the same. Ushers, by the same token, should take their roles as host and hostesses in the house of the Lord seriously and respect that role, the church and the worshipers with the highest esteem. Ushers should encourage worshipers to do the same. However, these are facts that everyone should know and practice. Whether you are a choir member, a part of the Sunday School Department, s Steward or Trustee, being aware of these facts will make the Ushers role easier ad everyone s attendance and life I the church more meaningful. If we are going to respect the church as we should, we need to know the church and its parts. Parts of the Church Narthex Entrance, vestibule, a passage room between the outer doors and the interior (the Nave). The passage room is the area for such business as getting bulletins, registering guests, removing coats or other garments, distributing tickets, etc. This business should be done quietly and orderly while preparing to enter the Nave reverently.

Church Delegate People: People: People: All: We celebrate the gifts of teaching and learning, and the many ways we are educated, recognizing no limits to learning. Our faith seeks understanding; our faith asks our intellect for help. Jesus is our ultimate teacher, who calls us toward discovery and understanding. Jesus taught in parables, sayings, sermons, and stories so all people could know and love God. We have been blessed with many great teachers in our church, who guide us in our quest to believe. For these persons we are ever thankful. As students and teachers we are a community seeking and professing our faith. In this community where God s Spirit is present, we covenant to continue to learn and to grow in faith together.
