OBITUARY : DR. H.K. KERJIWAL Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan grieves the sad demise of Dr.H.K.Kejriwal on Thursday, July 26, 2019 after a brief illness. Dr. H.K.Kejriwal, the Bhavan s esteemed Vice Chairman was a well known art collector cum philanthropist. He has immensely contributed for the development of the Bhavan s Kendra. Early Life: Dr. H K Kejriwal s father decided to send him to the prestigious Hindu school in Kolkata since he felt that child Kejriwal would be influenced by fine aesthetics of classical music and art by studying in a place that was the hotbed of culture. Dr. Kejriwal s education was enriched by his close association with the Mullick family, Shantiniketan, Rabindranath Tagore and several other eminent artists as well as art patrons. What was initiated by his father, who was an art collector himself, created an unquenchable thirst in Dr.Kejriwal for collecting art and his art collection is probably among the largest private collections in the country and spans centuries, going way back to the 3 rd century BC. Dr. H K Kejriwal was not new to receiving honours and awards. There are innumerable institutions like our own Bhavan and the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath and a score of artists who have justifiably lavished their honours on this patron of fine arts. The award from the Roerich International Foundation Moscow, which came his way in 2007 is of special significance. Dr. H K Kejriwal developed the Chitrakala Parishath, which is the hub of visual arts today in the country and has gifted his personal collections to the H K Kejriwal Museum. With the demise of Dr. H.K.Kejriwal, a great patron of art and culture, Bhavan has lost a personal friend, philosopher and guide leaving the entire Bhavan family deeply saddened. Bhavan s family prays for his soul to rest in peace. 14
