Lucille A. Brune October 23, 1932 February 10, 2014 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Me should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 PRELUDE Funeral Service Wednesday, February 12, 2014 10:00 AM EBENEZER LUTHERAN CHURCH The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod 9100 Highway YY - Port Hudson Leslie, Missouri 63056 Rev. William F. Zastrow, Pastor Laura Nichols, Organist Kathy Scheer, Men s Choir Director RINGING OF THE BELL OPENING HYMN Beautiful Savior Tune: Schoenster Herr Jesu (Public Domain) 1. Beautiful Savior, King of Creation, Son of God and Son of Man! Truly I'd love Thee, Truly I'd serve Thee, Light of my soul, my Joy, my Crown.

2. Fair are the meadows, Fair are the woodlands, Robed in flowers of blooming spring; Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer; He makes our sorrowing spirit sing. 3. Fair is the sunshine, Fair is the moonlight, Bright the sparkling stars on high; Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer, Than all the angels in the sky. 4. Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor, Praise, adoration, Now and forevermore be Thine! In the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen O Lord, open Thou my lips. And My mouth shall show forth Thy Praise. We brought nothing into this world and it s certain that we shall carry nothing out. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away: Blessed be the name of the Lord. O death, where is thy sting! O grave, where is thy victory. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! 2

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be forever and ever. Amen. PSALM 23 & Psalm 130 COLLECT P: The Lord be with you. C: And with your Spirit. P: Let us pray to the Lord. O God of grace and mercy, we give thanks for your loving-kindness to Lucille, having finished her course in faith, and now rests from her labors. Grant that we also may be faithful to death and receive the crown of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. HYMN I m But a Stranger Here Tune: Heaven is my home (Public Domain) 1. I'm but a stranger here, Heav'n is my home; Earth is a desert drear, Heav'n is my home. Danger and sorrow stand Round me on every hand; Heav'n is my fatherland, Heav'n is my home. 2. What though the tempest rage, Heav'n is my home; Short is my pilgrimage, Heav'n is my home; 3

And time's wild wintry blast Soon shall be over past; I shall reach home at last, Heav'n is my home. 3. There at my Savior's side Heav'n is my home; I shall be glorified, Heav'n is my home; There are the good and blest, Those I love most and best; And there I, too, shall rest, Heav'n is my home. OLD TESTAMENT READING Isaiah 25:6-9 (The Lord God will swallow up death forever) (After the reading) P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. GRADUAL (Psalm 121) I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, 4

nor the moon by night. All: The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. EPISTLE Revelation 7:9-17 (Standing before the throne in front of the Lamb) (after the reading) P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. MEN S CHOIR Abide with Me HOLY GOSPEL John 3:16-18 (God so loved the World) (after the reading) P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to You, O Christ. SERMON HYMN What a Friend We have in Jesus Tune: Friend (Public Domain) 1. What a Friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry Ev'rything to God in prayer! Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear, 5

All because we do not carry Ev'rything to God in prayer! 2. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged, Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a Friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our ev'ry weakness-- Take it to the Lord in prayer. 3. Are we weak and heavy laden, Cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our Refuge-- Take it to the Lord in prayer. Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer; In His arms He'll take and shield thee, SERMON LUCILLE AND JESUS: SHARED IN DEATH WHAT THEY SHARED IN LIFE AND WHAT THEY NOW SHARE IN ETERNITY. Luke 23:44-45 P: God has made us his people through our Baptism into Christ. Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith with all the saints. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, 6

was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life + everlasting. Amen. PRAYER O God, the Father of compassion, shower Your mercies on this family, and all who mourn the death of our departed sister, Lucille. May these mercies be new each day to sooth the pain of each day as we await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and this loved one. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. O God the Son, dearest Jesus, our Good Shepherd, make Your rod and staff of comfort known to those who mourn. May Your goodness and love revealed in Your Word and Sacraments be known in their daily lives. Guide them in Your paths of righteousness as they await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and this loved one. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. 7

O God the Holy Spirit, show us the mountain of hope---the mountain of the cross of Christ. Strengthen our faith with Your Word and Sacraments that we may join those who have overcome all tribulations and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Keep us faithful as we await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and this loved one. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen. Lord, remember us in Your kingdom, and teach us to pray: LORD S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. HYMN I Know My Redeemer Lives Tune: Duke Street (Common Domain) 1. I know that my Redeemer lives; What comfort this sweet sentence gives! 8

He lives, He lives, who once was dead; He lives, my ever-living Head. 2. He lives triumphant from the grave, He lives eternally to save, He lives all-glorious in the sky, He lives exalted there on high. 3. He lives to bless me with His love, He lives to plead for me above. He lives my hungry soul to feed, He lives to help in time of need. 4. He lives to grant me rich supply, He lives to guide me with His eye, He lives to comfort me when faint, He lives to hear my soul's complaint. 5. He lives to silence all my fears, He lives to wipe away my tears He lives to calm my troubled heart, He lives all blessings to impart. 6. He lives, my kind, wise, heavenly Friend, He lives and loves me to the end; He lives, and while He lives, I'll sing; He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King. 7. He lives and grants me daily breath; He lives, and I shall conquer death: He lives my mansion to prepare; He Iives to bring me safely there. 8. He lives, all glory to His name! He lives, my Jesus, still the same. 9

Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives, "I know that my Redeemer lives! "THE BENEDICTION P: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance on you and give you peace. C: Amen. Lucille A. Brune Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel.
