TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME September 16, 2018 The Lord GOD is my help, therefore I am not disgraced. ~ Isaiah 50:7 Often when we read the Prophets or the Psalms, we place ourselves in the first person narrative. It is easy to pray a psalm that speaks to something we ourselves are suffering or experiencing. But today's prophecy from Isaiah cannot mean anything but a prophecy of Jesus and his suffering. The Psalm as well could apply to our suffering, but applies better as a prophecy of Jesus' suffering and death. In the letter of James, we are chided to accompany our faith with works. "So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead." We are urged to reach out from our faith, the gift of God, to go further into good works to those who suffer. If we reach out to those who need our help, we are truly fulfilling our faith in Christ. Copyright (c) 2005, World Library Publications. All rights reserved. FATHER JOE S INSTALLATION MASS Saturday, September 22nd at 5:00 pm. A reception with light refreshments will follow in the church hall. Thank you for your support of this critical effort to provide for senior priests in their retirement years years many priests continue to spend very active in ministry. As part of a 1935 initiative to recognize and celebrate the gift that catechists give to their parish communities by volunteering their time for the education of children, the Church began what we know today as Catechetical Sunday. On Catechetical Sunday, we come together as both a parish and Church community to acknowledge the dedication of those who serve as catechists in our parish family. This year, Catechetical Sunday is celebrated this weekend at each of the masses. Seize this wonderful opportunity to say thank you to those who serve our faith formation programs.
