Rev. Mike Winters Pastor Leigh Clark Minister of Music & Youth Dr. Ray Jones, Jr. Pastor Emeritus WISE BAPTIST NEWS A PUBLICATION FOR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF WISE BAPTIST CHURCH September 13, 2016 A place for faith and fellowship with family and friends. Dear church family and friends, Our world is worse than ever! How often have we heard (or said) those very words? If we believe the world is worse than ever, then what? We may think there is nothing we can do. We become discouraged and lose hope. Moses might challenge the statement that the world is worse than ever. Consider the world into which he was born. For hundreds of years the Hebrew people had been forced into slavery. Pharaoh issued a death sentence for all baby boys. How would Moses compare his world to ours? The Bible says in Exodus 3:7-8 that the Lord has seen the misery of His people and will rescue them. God will personally intervene. How? In Exodus 3:10 God says, now go, I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt. If Moses could speak with us from our point in time, he might conclude that the world into which he was born was the worst ever. God saw the suffering of His people and was going to directly intervene. His plan was to work through a person, Moses. Moses was less than excited about this new role. However, as he submitted to the will of God, He used him to save His people! What can we learn from Moses story? As bad as the world may seem, there is hope. God sees and cares. God chooses to intervene directly. How? Through people like you and me. Take heart and have hope. God s saving power expressed through His people can make a difference anytime and anywhere! My friends, let s be the church and allow God s mighty saving presence to change us and our world! From Leigh 9/11 is a day that is etched in the memories and history of all Americans. It was a Tuesday. Pastor Ray and I were at the church in our offices when a call came in from Ms. Carolyn. Ray called out for me to come across the hall into his office. Carolyn was still on the phone telling Ray and I what she was watching on the television as the terror unfolded. I didn t really believe it at first. One of our deacons, Mark Coomer, called to ask if we could have a prayer service at the church. Many believers came together that evening to pray and to share Holy Communion. It was a touching service that reminded us all that we serve The God of Hope even, especially, in times of fear and sadness. Another significant thing that happened in my life that week was my Ordination service at WBC. On Sunday, September 16, 2001, WBC affirmed my call to ministry with a special service of music, testimony, prayer, and blessing (the Laying on of Hands). My parents and sisters all came from Georgia to be a part of the service. I remember the many kind and encouraging words that were whispered in my ear that morning. It is a day I will forever cherish. I give thanks for each of you and for this church. I am praying for you this week; pray for each other, too. Blessings, Leigh Congratulations to Abbie Crutchfield and Ali Stuedemann for being inducted into the National Junior Beta Club at LF Addington last week. The weather was beautiful so we went outside for an exciting game of SPUD. Our lesson focused on Judas Iscariot. What can we learn from Judas? You can fool others but you can t fool God. And, our words and actions must match up as Christians. Who we are on Sunday morning should be who we are everyday of the week. Join us on Wednesday for Breakfast for Dinner at 6. Bible study will begin at 6:45 in the youth building.
