Items Needed at the Samaritan Center The Samaritan Center is in desperate need of coat donations for this winter especially children s coats of all sizes (infant to teen). They are also needing hats and gloves as well. Other items that are currently in short supply include children s underwear and socks. Thank you so much for supporting the Samaritan Center as they work to help those in need! Staff Christmas Love Offering As an offer of gratitude to our staff, we will be collecting donations beginning the first Sunday of December for three weeks. There will be a basket placed at the back of the Sanctuary marked Staff Love Offering. Please place donations in the basket, and if writing a check, make it payable to CASH. We care and appreciate all they do to help us spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to our community and the world. Stewardship Update Pastor Tim shared some awesome messages on stewardship. We hope that you were encouraged and inspired. Thank you to all who have submitted a pledge for 2018. If you haven't already turned in your card there are cards available in the sanctuary in the pockets on the backs of the pews. You may complete and place in the offering tray. Blessings to you, The Stewardship Ministry Team Thank you to Phoebes and Church Family!! Thank you for your generous fruit plate. We were so surprised with your many treats. We really appreciate your loving concern. It is so wonderful how many ways our church family has remembered us during this long medical recovery. We love our church family. June and Elzie Berry Advent starts December 3rd and runs through December 24th this year!
Happiest of Holidays from Pastor Tim Does it upset you that I wished you a Happy Holidays instead of a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year? It shouldn t. As I sit at my desk and write this we haven t even made it through Thanksgiving yet. So I could wish you a Thankful Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year but that s so wordy so I combined them to Happy Holidays. Remember when our nation had the Happy Holiday / Merry Christmas wars? Retailers were worried about offending non-christians by saying Merry Christmas and Christians were worried that we were taking Christ out of Christmas by not saying Merry Christmas. I never did understand this. For one, I am not very good at determining what religious preference a person has just by appearance. Secondly, if my faith is so weak that someone saying Happy Holidays to me takes Christ out of my Christmas then my relationship with God really, really, really (yes that s 3 reallys) needs some attention. How about this how about we all say whatever greeting fits our own religious preference, we all understand, accept, and respect each other s religious preference, and we all enjoy the interaction we have just had with one another. I think this community, this nation and this world has bigger fish to fry than our holiday salutation. As you are reading this we have finished with Thanksgiving. We probably shot through Thanksgiving; we seem to each year. Seems as though we are too busy with Christmas preparation to worry about Thanksgiving. Now that I am older Thanksgiving has turned into my favorite holiday. No pressure on gift giving, no trees to decorate, no lights to hang, no Figgie pudding to eat. It s all about being with family and friends, the power of presence. It s about gathering around a table with loved ones and giving thanks for all of the blessings in our lives. Thanking God for the gift of life and all that comes with it. It s a shame that we only lay aside one day for that. We would be a better people if we step off of our pedestals, humble ourselves and daily give thanks for our lives. I guess one day is better than none. I wish you all a very safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May you get all you wish for at Christmas while all the time celebrating the reason for the season Christ. May the year 2018 be better than 2017 and may every day be better than the last. In Christian love.
