Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. Psalm 139:4 92
The kind of person we are is revealed by our speech. Our nature comes out of our mouth. If we have a soothing disposition, our words will bring that soothing to troubled waters
James 3:3-10 NIV 3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.
James 3:3-10 NIV cont d 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8 but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
James 3:3-10 NIV cont d 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.
Anything undisciplined will be wild and uncontrollable, always wanting to do its own thing. A child is that way. So is a wild animal. So is appetite. The human tongue is no different. We must learn to discipline our own mouths and take responsibility for what comes out of them.
Teach your children about God s teachings Protect your children from inappropriate literature, from listening to inappropriate music, and from watching inappropriate television shows and movies
Psalm 110:105 NIV Thy Word is a lamp to my feet and A light to my path
Careless Words Get over it That s not good enough Talk to the hand I hate him / I don t like her You re driving me crazy He s so dumb / she s so stupid
Psalm 139:4 NIV Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord
To practice for one week to think before we speak
The only thing that is going to truly change you and me is getting into God s presence and waiting on Him to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves The Lord is looking for people who are willing to be changed from what they are to what only He can make them to be. The first step in that process usually involves a change in speech.
