Be blessed everyone. Love y'all. MYESE! Pastor Heard Part 11: Elevate Your Life! Text: Ephesians 2:6 (NIV) and God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus. Luke 9:1 (NIV) - When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases. A We have been studying "The Twelve Dimensions of Spiritual Authority." 1. This study teaches how to experience the authority God wants us to have that will bless our families and cancel every assignment the enemy has plotted against us. 2. Titles alone impress no one. If we have no spiritual authority, neither the world nor the enemy will respect us. 3. Joke: I 'm the Boss! In a staff meeting, the company boss complained that he wasn't getting enough respect. Later that morning he went to a local sign shop and bought a small sign that read: "I'm the Boss!" and taped it to his office door. When he returned from lunch that day, someone had taped a note to the sign that read: "Your wife called. She wants her sign back!"

B. Today, let's go a step farther in the dimensions of spiritual authority. 1. 1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) - Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 2. Notice the wording of this scripture: the devil is "seeking whom he MAY devour"--not whom he CAN devour. a. "May" is a word that describes permission; "can" refers to ability. b. Without permission, the enemy cannot steal from you, so why not refuse to give him permission? 3. By exercising your authority in the spirit realm, you can refuse to give the enemy permission to devour your health, your family, your finances or any other area of life. 4. Church congregations earn respect in a community or city because of their spiritual authority. If they have no spiritual authority, their church has no respect. 5. Programs, choirs, buildings, dramas, good sermons and community involvement can never replace spiritual authority. Consequently, the world has no respect for the church today. 6. Why is this so? I believe that to fix a problem, it must first be correctly diagnosed. That can be quite difficult and even annoying. 7. Speaking of being annoyed while trying to fix something, did you hear the joke about Jesus trying to save a woman who was about to be stoned to death? He Who Is Without Sin Jesus sees a small crowd surrounding a young woman they believe has just violated the law. To defuse their purpose of stoning her to death, Jesus says, Whoever is without sin among you, let them cast the first stone.

Suddenly, an elderly lady at the back of the crowd picks up a rock and scores a direct hit on the woman. Encouraged, the other members of the crowd begin to throw rocks too. Jesus frowns and quickly steps between the crowd and the woman in question to protect her. Then he looks over at the old lady: You know, Mother, sometimes you really annoy me. 8. The church is supposed to have such authority, the enemy cannot help but acknowledge it. 9. After teaching about authority over self, authority within the family and authority over secular affairs, we shall now examine the fourth dimension of authority within a ministry. D. Authority within a Ministry Structure 1. Jesus demonstrated this authority when He plaited a whip and drove the money changers from the Temple. 2. It's important to know that when correctly practiced, ministry structures can impact and accomplish much more than a lone individual. When believers embrace the same vision, a great synergistic effect is released. 3. Deuteronomy 32:30 says that one can put a thousand to flight, but two can put 10,000 to flight! 4. Matthew 7:28-29 (NIV) - When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law. 5. All that was needed to spiritually awaken Israel was one person who taught with the authority of a representative from Heaven. 6. If you are a believer, you were meant to have authority! Your life and presence were meant to make the devil shake and tremble! a. When you pray, something is supposed to happen in the heavenly realm. When you teach or worship, something is supposed to take

place in the hearts of men. You were designed to move the heart of God and cause angels to stand at attention! b. The world has heard far too much shallow teaching from those who have no authority. They have observed countless churches that have not changed a thing. c. The big problem with religious systems today is: they have little or no authority over the enemy! 7. Paul warned about the deteriorating condition of religion in the last days: a. 2 Timothy 3:5 (NIV) - Having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. b. Galatians 2:6 (NIV) - As for those who were held in high esteem whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism they added nothing to my message. c. This was Paul's warning: an important title does not mean a person is making a real difference! E. According to Paul's experience, the church wasn't perfect even in his day! 1. Some reject the church altogether because of its glaring flaws. But that will never solve the problem. 2. To say, I have no need of the church, is like saying, I know more than God, the Creator of the institution of which you and I are members. 3. Matthew 16:18 b, c (KJV) - Upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not overcome it. 4. To despise His church is to despise Him, for the church is His body. 5. Ephesians 1:22-23 (NIV) - And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. 6. Never forget that the church is Christ's bride. (It's not too smart to say bad things about another man's wife!).

7. Ephesians 5:25 (NIV) - Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. 8. Even if you've never admitted it, you still need the church! 9. Ephesians 4:16 (NIV) - From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. 10. His Word further declares the importance of faithfully attending church services: 11. Hebrews 10:25 (NIV) - not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching. F. The Old Testament is filled with types and shadows that give us insight into the nature of God and the importance of His divine principles. 1. The necessity of corporate worship is clearly noted by the penalties for failing to do so. 2. Because Israel had often failed to gather for worship throughout their history, God insisted that they attend corporate worship at the close of their 70 year exile in Babylon. Severe penalties were imposed upon those who failed to respond. 3. Ezra 10:8 (NIV) - Anyone who failed to appear within three days would forfeit all his property, in accordance with the decision of the officials and elders, and would himself be expelled from the assembly of the exiles. 4. If this seems a bit too harsh, you must remember that God's motive was to prevent a future captivity for failing to remember the lesson they had just learned the hard way. 5. Could it be that believers who have not been faithful in corporate worship must also suffer in times of economic distress which God designed for unrepentant nations who are guilty of the same offense?

6. The plagues Egypt suffered for rebelling against God produced economic hardships. But the plagues did not affect the children of Israel. 7. Never stop going to church. Instead, help make it a better place! But don't expect to find a perfect church. If you should, it would no longer be perfect if you and I joined because we aren't perfect! G. God wants His church to demonstrate genuine apostolic authority. 1. The term apostolic refers to practice and function not position, title...or even doctrine. 2. The Roman centurion (in Matthew Chapter 8), received an incredible miracle for two reasons: a. He understood the authority practiced in the Kingdom of God. b. He had submitted himself to authority. c. His concept of authority resulted in an incredible demonstration of spiritual authority over an incurable disease. 3. If used today, the same principles of true apostolic authority will allow us to experience the same miraculous results. H. Authority in ministry structures was meant to flow from voluntarily submitting to those in leadership, not from seeking a superior title or honorable position. 1. Hebrews 13:17 (NKJV) - Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. 2. A tremendous need exists for sound, biblical church government and for members to value and submit to that government. 3. Spiritual authority, in part, is the result of being correctly aligned and submitting to the authority of both God and His church.

4. Before you can be an administrator of government within the church, certain qualifications must be met. a. 1 Timothy 3:1, 4-5 (NKJV) - This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. [4] one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence [5] for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God? b. The word for rule his own house well means: to stand before, or to lead or superintend by example. c. 1Timothy 5:17 (NKJV) - Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine. d. Here, the word rule is the same word in 1 Timothy 3:4, which means: to stand before, or to lead by example. e. To lead by example means that you have submitted to the same principles to which others are asked to submit. f. To submit means: to yield yourself; to deliberately choose to have no resistance; to give yourself over. I A problem in the church which we must contend with is the spirit that illegitimately seeks to be in authority, but refuses to submit to authority. 1. The spirit that seeks to control others is known as the Jezebel spirit, and is facilitated by the Ahab spirit. 2. The reason for desiring to control others, rather than submitting to the vision or leadership of others, is based on an individual's personal agenda they are pursuing. 3. Attitudes such as these drive away many people from God's church.

J. Three areas in which the church should have authority are: with God, with men, and with the enemy. 1. As stated in our text, Christ's disciples are clearly designed to have authority over the enemy: a. Luke 9:1 (NIV) - When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases. 2. In Genesis 32, the other two areas of authority are noted in the story of Jacob wrestling with the Angel of the Lord. a. Genesis 32:28 (KJV) - And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. b. Notice with whom Jacob (now renamed Israel ) had been given authority: both God and man! 3. The word "power" does not refer to mere strength. The Hebrew word means: the power of a prince, based on his position of authority. 4. Jacob, whom God renamed Israel, is a type of the church. a. As members of God's church, we not only have His power within us, we also have that authority the King of all kings has given to His sons and daughters. b. Incredible breakthroughs are supposed to occur--not only in our lives, our worship, finances, healing, and relationships but also in the communities where we minister. c. Mighty manifestations of God's power should be occurring so that the community can first be attracted to us, and then come to know God. 5. When a church demonstrates such authority with God, a tangible presence of the Holy Spirit always lingers.

6. Imagine what happens when a church with this authority appeals to God for the needs of a community?. He responds! 7. When a church has authority with God and man, the community will value, honor, and hold that congregation in high esteem. 8. When those who have submitted to authority join with other believers who have also submitted to authority, you'll find a ministry structure that functions in an exponentially increased level of spiritual authority! K. Life Application Points: 1. Value your church membership: the enemy fears those who do. 2. Submit your life and family to the teachings of God's Word: the church's authority is multiplied when you do. 3. Make knowing Christ the main thing: authority comes to those who spend time with Him!
