LETS DRESS OUR BEST TO GIVE THE LORD OUR SUNDAY S BEST! MAY 28, 2017 7TH SUNDAY OF EASTER "Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ." The Easter season is resplendent with the joy of eternal life. Jesus conquered death through his resurrection and promises all believers a share in this miraculous triumph. The gates of heaven have been opened for us by the great sacrifice of our Savior. All good things lie in wait for us who know "the only true God" and his Son, Jesus Christ. When we gather together in our communities of faith, it's easy to remember all of this. We share common beliefs and practices with those friends, family members, and neighbors who attend our church. But carrying the joy of Easter with us out into the "world" can be more of a challenge. Once we step outside the safe confines of our parish or home, we encounter those who do not know the true God. We work with, study with, encounter, or gather with many people who have forgotten, abandoned, or never even known Jesus. Sometimes this can make us hesitant to share our joy, or even apologetic for our beliefs. But of course we are called to be witnesses of what we believe, not cowards who hide it from public view. So let us take courage from today's Gospel. Jesus himself offered prayers on behalf of his followers. "I pray for them. I do not pray for the world, but for the ones you have given me." As the followers of Christ, we have the benefit of his own desire to help us, to strengthen us even amidst the challenges that we face. He knows that we "are in the world" even though he is not here in the same way. And he has asked God the Father to share his divine blessings with us even as we make our way in this world. Our Church Office will close on Monday May 29th in observance of Memorial Day It will reopen on Tuesday, May 30th at Thank You San Pasquale Society for your donation of $500.00 May the Lord bless you all and keep you in His Care!! The Virgin Mary appeared to an indigenous man named Juan Diego on Dec. 9, 1531. The Virgin asked that a shrine in her name be built on the spot where she appeared, Tepeyac Hill, which is now in a suburb of Mexico City. Juan Diego told the Our Lady of Guadalupe bishop about the apparition and request, but he didn t believe him and demanded a sign before he would approve construction of the church. On Dec. 12, the Virgin reappeared to Juan Diego and ordered him to collect roses in his tilmátli, a kind of cloak. Juan took the roses to the bishop and when he opened his cloak, dozens of roses fell to the floor and revealed the image of the Virgen of Guadalupe imprinted on the inside. The tilmátli with the image is on display in the Basilica de Guadalupe. Saint Lorenzo Ruiz Saint Lorenzo Ruiz was born in Binondo, Manila, Philippines. He was working as a clerk at the Binondo Church when he was falsely accused of killing a Spaniard in 1636. Prior to that, his life with his Filipino wife and three children was one of peace, contentment, and Christ -centered. Lorenzo was falsely accused of murdering a Spaniard and sought asylum on board a ship with three Dominican priests, St. Antonio Gonzalez, St. Guillermo Courtet, St. Miguel de Aozaraza, a Japanese priest: St. Vicente Shiwozuka de la Cruz, and a layman named St. Lazaro of Kyoto, a leper. The boat landed at Okinawa and the group was arrested on basis of their Christian religion. They were tortured by the Japanese, but did not denounce their faith, and died as martyrs.
