Pre-Service Meditation: Psalm 84 (p.139, red hymnal) Pre-Service Prayer: O LORD God, as You once spoke to Peter, James, and John on the Mount of Transfiguration and told them to listen to Jesus, please speak to my heart today. Move me to listen attentively to the words of my Savior, for then I will grow in my faith, my love, my hope, and my confidence. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

CHANTING ORDER OF SERVICE Hymn: 719 (tan Supplement) Jesus on the Mountain Peak Prayer When the congregation is asked to stand, please do so only if you are able. You may remain seated if standing is difficult. WELCOME in the name of Jesus who is our God and Savior! Invocation: Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Congregation: Amen. All: O almighty God, merciful Father, I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I have offended You. I justly deserve Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for my sins and sincerely repent of them. I pray that You would of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being. P: Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, has had mercy upon you and has given His only Son to die for you, and for His sake forgives you all your sins. To all who believe on His name He gives the privilege of being children of God and has promised them His Holy Spirit. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. Grant this, Lord, unto us all. C: Amen. P: The Lord be with you C: And with your spirit. P: Glory be to God on high C: And on earth peace, good will toward men. P: We praise You, we bless You, we worship You, C: We glorify You, we give thanks to You, for Your great glory. P: O Lord God, heav'nly King, C: God the Father Almighty. 2

P: O Lord, the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ; C: O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, P: Who takes away the sin of the world, C: Have mercy upon us. P: You who takes away the sin of the world, C: Receive our prayer. P: You who sits at the right hand of God the Father, C: Have mercy upon us. P: For You only are holy; C: You only are the Lord. P: You only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, C: Are most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen. Old Testament Reading: 2 Kings 2:9-14 Elijah did not die but rather was translated directly to heaven. He serves as a marvelous testimony to the fact that there is a heaven awaiting God s children. Congregational Praise (sung): Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! High School Choir: Your Little Ones, Dear Lord, Are We (WS 713) New Testament Reading: Matthew 17:1-9 Congregational Welcome (sung): Glory be to You, O Lord! Jesus was transfigured before His disciples revealing His divine glory to them. God the Father announced that Jesus was indeed His Son to whom we all are to listen. Congregational Response (sung): Praise be to You, O Christ! Our Confession of Faith in the Apostolic Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven 3

and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Hymn: 290 We Have a Sure Prophetic Word Sermon: Text - 2 Peter 1:16-21 THE BIBLE IS GOD S INFALLIBLE WORD AND THE SOLE BASIS OF OUR CHRISTIAN FAITH! I. How do we know the Bible is God s Word? II. How do we know we understand the Bible correctly? Pastor Paul D. Nolting Sermon Notes: Offertory: Congregation (sings): Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence; and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of Your salvation; and uphold me with Your free Spirit. Amen. 4

Hymn: How Good, Lord, to Be Here 1. How good, Lord, to be here, Your glory fills the night; Your face and garments, like the sun, Shine with unborrowed light. 2. How good, Lord, to be here, Your beauty to behold Where Moses and Elijah stand, Your messengers of old. 3. Fulfiller of the past, Promise of things to be, We hail Your body glorified And our redemption see. 4. Before we taste of death, We see Your kingdom come; We long to hold the vision bright And make this hill our home. 5. How good, Lord, to be here. In the Hospital: Dear Members of Immanuel, For the past few weeks I have spent time in prayerful consideration of the call that I received to teach Kindergarten at Immanuel Lutheran School. I thank you all for your input and prayers during that time. Through my contemplation, the Spirit has moved me to accept the call to teach at Immanuel. I look forward to the opportunity to share God s Word openly in a Christian-based education. I ask for prayers moving forward that I may glorify God through this divine call. Yours in Christ, Stephanie Purrington 7

Dear Members of Immanuel Lutheran Church: God has recently given us an opportunity to use our gifts and talents to serve Him overseas on the Church of the Lutheran Confession (CLC) Mission Helper trip to East Africa this summer. We will be working with the pastors of CLC sister church bodies in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia to conduct child evangelism programs. If the Lord blesses our efforts, we, along with the other Mission Helpers will have a chance to bring the Gospel to many people. Some of these people will be members of our sister congregations, but many will have never heard of their Savior Jesus Christ nor of the saving message of His life, death, and resurrection. Each day, we plan to travel to a different village and present a series of Bible lessons that will teach both Law and Gospel. We will also do crafts and activities with the correlating lesson to reinforce the message. We are extremely excited for this opportunity to travel abroad to spread God s Word! This is a team effort that will include more than those who will be traveling overseas. The team will also include those who support this effort to carry out our Savior s great commission to make disciples of all nations (Mathew 28:16-20). With that being said, your help is needed. We ask that you would keep us and the other Mission Helpers in your prayers as we prepare to go on this journey that the Lord has called us to do. We also ask that you would pray for those who are already working to spread the Gospel overseas and for those souls that we reach during our journey. In Christ, Jessica Schreyer and Jennifer Grabow Mission Helper Fund: Immanuel has an established Mission Helper Fund. The purpose of this fund is to help fund Mission Helper trips undertaken by Immanuel members The approximate costs of this year s Mission Helper Trip are: Airfare: $1700-$1900 / Food and Lodging: $500 In-country transportation: $250 / Teaching and misc. travel expenses: $300 Travel insurance: $80 / Passport and passport photos: $120 Visa fee, postage and photos: $100 8

If you would like to financially support Jessica and Jennifer s Mission Helper trip to East Africa this summer, you are able to do so through an offering designated for Mission Helper Fund. 2015 Women s Retreat on April 10-12: Registration is now open on our new website: 1.
