ROSE OF LIMA PARISH Page 3 LISTENING AND RESPONDING There are three interwoven themes in today s readings: listening to God, faith vs. good works, and losing our life in order to find it. How are they related? The Suffering Servant of Isaiah undergoes much distress and ridicule, but is able to bear it because he has listened to the promptings of God day after day. The psalm tells us that God listens, too. God hears our prayers for help and is always ready to save us. As our faith deepens, so does our desire to do the works of justice and charity that build up the reign of God. God directs our actions in ways we often cannot see, and we don t always see the results. We are called upon in faith to trust that what we do is enough, and that willingness to listen to God s promptings will lead us in the right way. ARE YOU SEEKING SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE OR DIRECTION? Within each of us lies the desire to find meaning beyond the moment to discover our true selves to grow closer to God. Spiritual direction is a graced way to explore that deeper connection with God by reflecting deeply on your everyday experiences in the light of Scripture and prayer. This ministry is not about problem-solving or therapy, and not about being directed. Rather, it is a shared journey of encouragement to grow in relationship with God, self, others and creation. CROCHET & KNITTING MINISTRY Fr. George invites all current altar servers and those who are interested to become altar servers to come for a training to be held on September 29, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the church. Children who are in 3 rd grade or in higher grades and have already received their First Communion are welcome to attend. We will have pizza in the patio after the training. We make prayer shawls, lap blankets, and baby blankets that are distributed to the Veterans Hospital, Respect Life or sick parishioners needing comfort. These items are blessed by our priest. Today s Responsorial Psalm 116 also reminds us that God is gracious, merciful and keeps us safe; frees our souls from death, our eyes from tears, and our feet from stumbling. So, let us always walk before the Lord in the land of the living. ROSE OF LIMA PARISH September 16, 2018 VOCATION AWARENESS WEEKEND More and more young men are seeking a profound relationship with Jesus Christ and are considering the possibility that they may be called by God to embrace a vocation to the diocesan priesthood. Vocation Awareness Weekend is a retreat for men ages 17-35 who are seeking more information about the priesthood and seminary life. It is held on the grounds of St. John Vianney College Seminary in Miami and consists of numerous workshops, liturgies, and social events with the seminarians. Participants will have ample time to ask questions, gain an understanding of seminary life and prayerfully consider God's call. The next Vocation Awareness Weekend will be held the weekend of November 9-11, 2018.
