St. Anastasia Catholic Church, Los Angeles, California Most Holy Trinity June 19th, 2011 Blessed be God the Father and His only-begotten Son and the Holy Spirit: for he has shown that he loves us. Reflection on Today s Readings: FOCUS: Through Baptism we were given a share in the divine life of the Trinity. - The Trinity is a mystery that surpasses intellectual understanding. Fortunately, God has revealed Himself as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and made it possible to enter into a relationship with Him. Through Baptism, we were given a share in the divine life of the Trinity, and are called to live in greater love with God and one another each day. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In Exodus, the Lord proclaims to Moses that He is a merciful God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity. In the second reading, Paul directs believers to support one another and live in unity, that God s love and peace may be with them. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that eternal life will come to those who believe in him. FACT OF LIFE "You are created for a reason." God loves each one of you very dearly as if there were no one else in the whole wide world but you. God has a plan for each one of your lives. Jesus tells us in the Gospel this evening that God wants us to bear fruits for Him. Fruits of love. He calls us to love with the same love that God has shown to us. Love as I have loved you! We have to imitate Jesus Christ in our thoughts and attitudes; in our actions and words. Try to do everything for love, my brothers. For the love of God! For the love of your family and the love of your neighbors. You have a responsibility now to play your part in God s plan for the world. He created this world to be a great city of love and truth, a culture of life. By your love you must spread God s love. This is your mission: To love until every life is welcomed and cherished from the child in the womb to the old and handicapped, to the immigrant seeking a new life for his family. To love until in this world no one is a stranger to love. (Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, Homily, Baccalaureate Mass, Cathedral High School, May 27, 2011) Marriage Ministry - We invite all couples who desire some time away to share fellowship and faith with other couples. We are starting new small Faith Sharing Groups designed to meet once a month. There is always room for spiritual growth and strengthening in our lives and this is a fun positive way to do it!! Most Holy Trinity Ministries in Action June 19th, 2011 Most Holy Trinity - The Gospel today is sometimes called the Gospel in miniature because it so concisely sums up the Gospel message. In even more condensed form, God loved...god gave is the paradigm for stewardship we give because we love. Abuse Prevention Program Tops 100,000 Trained Did you know that every person working with children and youth in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is mandated to attend VIRTUS training? The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has trained over 100,000 adults in the VIRTUS program. Initiated in 1997, the VIRTUS program is designed to prevent child sexual abuse by making adults aware of sexual abuse perpetuated by adults as well as other children. The training details five steps to prevent child sexual abuse. Knowing the warning signs of an inappropriate relationship with a child. Controlling access to children by carefully selecting the adults who work with children and youth. Monitoring all programs for the safety of children and youth. Being aware of and sensitive to what is going on in the lives of the children. Communicating concerns to the appropriate persons. For more information, please call the Archdiocesan Safeguard the Children Office: (213) 637-7227. For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at (213) 637-7650. The Children's Choir is finished for the year and is now on summer vacation from school. Please pray for a safe, happy, restful summer for them and for all of us.. - Greg Koppenhaver CATHOLIC ORGANIZATIONS TO JOIN OTHER FAITH LEADERS CALLING FOR PROTECTIONS FOR THE UNBORN AND YOUNG CHILDREN Major Catholic organizations will soon join others in the faith community to urge the implantation of an Environmental Protection Agency Rule that would limit toxic emissions such as mercury, lead and arsenic from power plants and spare children in the womb, the very young and others from environmental harm. At one of three hearings held on May 24, EPA officials heard from Rabbi Daniel Swartz of Scranton, PA who said that by allowing toxic emissions from power plants to continue, we have, in effect, subsidized the poisoning of fetuses and children. Later, Rev. Mitch Hescox, president of the NRPEmember Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN) said, We are hindering children from an abundant life...because we failed to clean up this terrible poison [mercury]. Joy Bergey of Chestnut Hill (PA) United Methodist Church echoed this call. Maybe this is why our God is a unity of three persons Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each divine person has a special role to play. The Father is the Creator, who loves us, protects us and gives us the commandments. Jesus Christ is the Son, our Savior, sacrificed to free us from sin. The Spirit enters us in baptism and empowers us to live in faith. Without any of these three, God s truth would not be complete.
