CATCH Lesson #4 Challenge The purpose of this lesson plan is to: Create a fun and interactive learning experience Provide teaching options in addition to the Leader Q Card Creatively revisit the Bible story featured in the teaching video Give kids an opportunity to further explore the application point PROGRAM Activity Length of Segment Running Time Q Card: Discussion 15 minutes Start-15 minutes Picture: Bible Story 5 minutes 15-20 minutes Play: Learning Activity 10 minutes 20-30 minutes Plan: Group Commitment 5 minutes 30-35 minutes Pray: Prayer Cards 5 minutes 35-45 minutes PREP You will need: 1 set of Power Source challenge game cards for each large or small group (end of lesson plan) 1 sheet of paper and a pencil for each team Game prizes (optional) Prayer Cards (1 per kid, on CD ROM) MAP Books (1 per kid, on CD ROM) Props for the Bible Story (optional) PICTURE (The Bible Story) In this portion of your class time you have the opportunity to retell the Bible story presented earlier in the teaching video. The object is to paint a picture that kids will understand and remember. When telling the story, remember you are painting a picture for your viewers. Have fun and explore your creativity. Here are some ideas to make your storytelling more memorable: Use Props: A rock, plastic baseball bat, small toy boat Invite a different kid to act out each trial Paul endured

Paul s Challenges (2 Corinthians 11:24-31) Five different times the Jews gave me thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. I have traveled many weary miles. I have faced danger from flooded rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the stormy seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be Christians, but they are not. I have lived with weariness and pain and sleepless nights. Often I have been hungry and thirsty and have gone without food. Often I have shivered with cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm. Then, besides all this, I have the daily burden of how the churches are getting along. Who is weak without my feeling that weakness? Who is led astray, and I do not burn with anger? If I must boast, I would rather boast about the things that show how weak I am. God, the Father of our Lord Jesus, who is to be praised forever, knows I tell the truth. PLAY (Learning Activity) In this portion of your class time you will lead your class in a fun and exciting activity that will help your kids apply the Bible lesson to their everyday lives. Power Source Challenge HOW TO START: Divide the kids into 4 teams. For older kids, give 1 sheet of paper and a pencil to each team. Layout or hang up the 6 power source picture cards (optional for younger kids). Older kids choose one person on each team to write. Younger kids will give team answers verbally. HOW TO PLAY: Read question #1 to all the teams (see questions below) The teams will then choose one of the power source pictures as an answer to write down. Continue asking questions. At the end of each round there is an All Teams Challenge. Only 1 player from each team will compete in the All Teams Challenge (see below). The team that wins the All Teams Challenge earns 3 bonus points. Repeat all steps for the remaining rounds. At the end of the game teams receive 1 point for each correct answer and add up their total scores. 2
