Stewardship in the parish Third Sunday of lent STEWARDSHIP STEWARDSHIP SPOTLIGHT - THE THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT March 19, 2017 The first reading and the gospel from today s mass teach us of God s love for us through the gift of water, which carries immense symbolism. Water is essential for all life, thus represents our most basic needs, and it also has spiritual meaning through baptism and salvation. In Exodus, God had saved the Israelites from the Egyptians with power and miracles, yet they are grumbling against God. God has saved us from sin and is with us always, especially in the Eucharist, but do we still grumble against him, doubt his love, and complain when the inevitable difficulties of our lives hit us? Jesus offers the Samaritan woman living water within that never runs dry. She doesn t understand at first, but is eventually converted. God s merciful love is like a spring of fresh water in us, relieving us of the thirst of the desert of our lives, if we but accept it. Questions to ponder through the week: Do we accept and acknowledge God s love for us? Do we doubt him and grumble against him? Do our actions every day reveal gratitude for God s providence? How would our friends, family and acquaintances answer these questions about us? On a more practical note, we are having a town hall/parish council meeting on Wednesday, March 29 at 7:00 pm in the lounge. We will get an update on the financial health of the parish and progress on the parking garage development. It has been several years since the parish survey and implementation of our strategic plan. We will soon endeavor to assess our progress, perhaps have another survey, and update the strategic plan. Town halls are an opportunity for everyone to be heard with regard to what is going on in the parish. Please come to be informed but also to express your views. Thank you, Paul A.
