بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم My Journey to ISCS If you were to tell me back when I was in Grade 5 that I would end up attending high school in the UAE; I would not believe you. Fast-forward four years, and here I am attending high school. But how? That requires a bit of a story. As-Salamu Alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu. My name is Junayd, I am 14 years old, and I just moved to The Emirates a few weeks back. I am a new student at ISCS, and I was asked to share my journey here. As an American fourteen-year-old, I was supposed to be entering high school. Even though I attended an Islamic school my entire life, my old school was K-8; which required me to look elsewhere for a secondary school. Unfortunately, I was not able to find any Islamic schools in my locality. That meant I had to consider irreligious schools. I would not accept that. With the situation in America in 2018: the Fitan of free-mixing, fueled by the advent of the film industry; I decided to search beyond local options. Even across the USA; almost all the Islamic schools were mixed; which forced me to look somewhere else. After looking a bit on the global scale; the UAE, especially with its society, was a very appealing option. After that, I had to look for a school, but I wanted a school that put emphasis on an Arabic and Islamic themed curriculum. After stumbling across ISCS in Sharjah, I made my mind. I made Istikharah, and I decided to go ahead with this school. It then came time for my February holidays. I flew to the UAE to apply to ISCS and to take my English and Maths entrance exams; which Alhamdulillah I passed. I then went back to America and started to teach myself Arabic. July came around, and I found out that a Dowah Ilmiyya was occurring in London. It was hosted by a group of trustworthy Usaatidha. For that reason, I decided to go to London. There, my fellow students knew that I was moving to the United Arab Emirates. I believe it was our fourth class, during our fiveminute break. I was correcting my notes when someone approached me. He seemed similar in age. After having returned the Salaam; he told me that he used to live in Dubai. He then asked me which school I was going to attend, Dates for your Diary Saturday, Sept 29 th Parents Orientation in the MPH 9:00-10:00 am Key Stage 3 10:30-11:30 am - Key Stage 4 12pm-1pm Key Stage 5 Coming soon in Humanities department Disasters in the world 23 rd September 2018 The 5 th Annual art Exhibition SEE THE POWER OF COLOURS, CREATIVITY & GROWTH @ ISCS 1
to which I responded ISCS InshaAllah. With a smile he told me that he used to be a student at ISCS; his name was Musa Mufti. I was in awe at Allah s Qadar; I asked him in Sharjah? to which he said yes. I visited the school a few times already; so I knew how it looked like. So I asked him to describe the appearance of the school, and he did so precisely. Now even though the school appeared to be good; I wanted to speak to a well a mannered student regarding the school; to get an insider experience. Musa حفظه هللا reaffirmed that the school was upon the Sunnah and he heavily praised it. He also went as far as to recall personal anecdotes and gave some advice. To this day (the 0th of September) I still keep in contact بارك ( Musa with him weekly. With the information that my beloved brother told me; backed with confidence and Tawakkul in Allah; I was excited (هللا فيه to come from London to Dubai (I flew from London; as that s where I was, for the Dowah). Now, all by the help of Allah I am here. وصلی هللا علی نبينا محمد وعلی آله وصحبه وسلم The miskeen slave of Allah, Junayd Gul Khattak 2

Limit Device Usage!!! We live in a hyper-connected world, and at times, it seems we all want that instant communication with our friends and family. Yet, we must pause and reflect on our usage and the unintended effects it may be having on our loved ones. According to a survey conducted in the US, more than a third of children have had to ask their parents to get off the internet with many saying it disrupts family life. It turns out that as much as parents are worried about their children s internet habits, children are similarly worried about their parent s. Some interesting statistics. According to a recent survey also done in the US: 36% of children between 11 and 18 have asked their parents to stop checking their phones 46% said that their requests were ignored 44% said that it made them feel upset 22% of children saying that that mobile use stopped their family from enjoying one another s company Parents! Given the above information, we ask you to monitor your device usage and how often you are on your devices especially when home with the family. There are many little ways to enlarge your child s world. Love of books is the best of all. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Assalamu Alaikum, The English Department is delighted to welcome year 7s who have already made a positive impression on their teachers. We are pleased to see that our existing students, after an extensive summer break, have seamlessly adjusted to the rhythm and pattern of school: eager and passionate to learn and excel in class. It is a pleasure to see that so many students are visiting the library and marveling at the wealth of books on offer. In addition, it is inspiring to witness so many students avidly reading in the morning before tutor time. We look forward to journeying with our students on a road to success. 6
