WELCOME In the Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful Prayers and Peace upon His Noble Messenger All Praise be to Allah and Peace and Blessings upon His Chosen and Beloved Messenger, the Mercy of the Worlds, the Final Prophet, Chief of this world and the Next World, Best of Creation, Present and Witnessing One, and upon His Blessed Companions, His Family and His Pure Wives, and all His followers till Judgment Day. Allah subhaanahu wa ta'ala says in His Noble Quran about His Noble Friends (i.e. the Awliya Kiram, may Allah be pleased with them all): "Alaa inna awliyaa Allahi laa khaufun 'alayhim wa laa hum yahzanoon" "Pay heed! Indeed upon the Friends of Allah is neither any fear, nor any grief." [Al-Quran, 10:62] Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (may Allah be pleased with him) is one of the greatest scholars and crown of the Saints of the Islamic tradition, and the fountainhead of the Qadri Spiritual Order, which emanates from the spiritual springs of Hazrat Ali ibn Abi Talib karram Allahu wajhu which in turn emanates from the Best of creation: our Beloved Holy Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam. Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (may Allah be well pleased with him) was born in the Iranian district of Gilan, south of the Caspian Sea, in 470 Hijri (1077-8 CE). Having lived a life of extreme piety, sacrifice, service, and devotion to Allah Almighty and His Messenger (prayers and peace of Allah Al- Page 3

mighty be upon Him), he passed onto the Realm of Divine Beatitude on the 11th of Rabi uth-thani, 561 Hijri (1166 CE). He rests in the city of Baghdad, Iraq. His blessed mausoleum is a place of pious visitation from devotees around the world. Having been eulogized by numerous scholars of our tradition, Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani radi Allahu anhu has been praised by Imam Yahya bin Sharaf id-deen an-nawawi (631-676 Hijri, may Allah have mercy on him, the famous compiler of the 40 Hadeeth) as follows in the latter's "Bustan ul- Arifin" (Orchard of Those Endowed with Direct Knowledge) 1 : "In all that has reached us, from trustworthy reporters, concerning the charismatic talents of the Saints, we learn of none more numerous than the charismatic talents of the Cardinal Pole (Qutb), the Shaykh of Baghdad, Muhyi Deen Abd ul- Qadir al-jili (may Allah be pleased with him). He was the Shaykh of the principal Shaf'i and Hanbali authorities in Baghdad. Leadership in the sphere of knowledge devolved upon him in his day and age. More than a few of the notable figures received their education in his fellowship, and most of the preeminent Shaykhs of Iraq became affiliated with him. His teaching was propagated by a host of those endowed with splendid spiritual states. His countless students included many of the masters of exalted spiritual stations. The Shaykhs and scholars (may Allah be well pleased with them all) were unanimous in declaring him worthy of the greatest honor and respect, in confirming his authority, in referring to his statements, and in having recourse to his judgment. Visitors flocked to him from every country and region, bringing votive offerings with them. Hopes were pinned on him from every direction. Followers of the spiritual path came to him in haste from every deep ravine. Page 4

He was handsome in his attributes, noble in his traits of character, perfectly refined in his manners and his chivalry, extremely humble, constantly cheerful, abundantly endowed with knowledge and intelligence, and strict in his adherence to the word of the Sacred Law and its rules. He treated the people of knowledge with profound respect, and honored those committed to the religion and Sunna. He hated those addicted to heretical innovation and passionate desires. He loved those who seek the Truth with constant dedication to the sacred struggle and unremitting vigilance until death. He had an exalted way of speaking about the esoteric sciences. His anger was intense whenever the sanctuaries of Allah, Glory be to Him and Exalted is He, were violated. He was openhanded and magnanimous, in the most beautiful way. To put it in a nutshell, there was none like him in his day and age. May Allah be well pleased with him!" May Allah Ta'ala by the Waseela of His Habeeb sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam give us the tawfeeq to learn more about the life and works of this Great Wali and all of His Great Friends (may Allah be pleased with them all) and be inspired through them to live meaningful lives of unconditional love and service to others. About IECRC IECRC is a non-profit, non-political 501 (c)(3) organization, devoted to providing academic and spiritual resources to diverse religious and cultural groups. IECRC was established in 2002 and is based in Fremont, California. As a community service organization, it is based on the model of the centuries old Islamic tradition of bringing peace and harmony to society by addressing the essential needs of people regardless of their cast, creed, color or religion. IECRC s long-term vision is to insha Allah (God willing) establish a world-class, vibrant and dynamic university that provides a forum for those seeking to quench the thirst of the heart and mind in the merger of ancient and modern knowledge and sciences in order to provide solutions to issues of our contemporary times with the goal of promoting peace, brotherhood and the betterment of humanity at large. In order to achieve this vision, IECRC has several short term plans which are divided into the areas of education (both children and adult), culture, research and counseling. EDUCATION: IECRC would like to insha Allah establish a low-cost, affordable full-time school for children ages 5 15 years where the young minds will be taught both traditional Islamic as well as modern knowledges. They will also be oriented in Islamic adab (etiquette). This requires a school building or a piece of land where one can be built. CULTURE: IECRC would like to promote Islamic culture within the Muslim community and to bring Islamic cultural awareness to other faith communities. This goal requires a community center with an auditorium. RESEARCH: IECRC intends to insha Allah establish a comprehensive library with a collection of Islamic books including rare ones in original sources, publish a quarterly Islamic Social Sciences Research Journal, and invite scholars of high caliber from around the world on a tenure basis. These goals require a physical facility for the library, a printing press for efficient publishing of journals and books and a guest house to lodge visiting scholars. COUNSELING: IECRC would like to expand its already existing services of spiritual healing and counseling. Topics covered would be in the areas of Family Affairs (Marriage Nikah, Divorce Talaq, etc.), Individual Counseling (Depression, Anxiety, etc.), Legal Aid & Medical Camps. The above goals require a physical facility for the counseling center that can lodge patients seeking help from far away places. We invite your feedback, help and support! Checks may be made payable to IECRC and mailed to: P.O. Box 1646, Union City, CA 94587 Thank You! Email: info@iecrcna.org Website: www.iecrcna.org Phone: (510) 732-6786 Page 12
