Time allowed 1 hour 30 minutes Instructions Use black ink or black ball-point pen. Write the information required on the front of your answer book. The Examining Body for this paper is AQA. The Paper Reference is 40552. Answer four questions. Each question has five parts. Do all rough work in your answer book. Cross through any work that you do not want to be marked. Information The marks for questions are shown in brackets. The maximum mark for this paper is 76. Four of these marks are for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar. Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar will be assessed in parts 05, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30. The marks for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) are shown below the mark allocation for each question. You will be awarded a mark for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) for each of the four questions that you attempt. The best of these marks will be included in your total for the paper. You will be marked on your ability to: use good English organise information clearly use specialist vocabulary where appropriate. 40552

2 Answer four questions. Each question has five parts. Answer all five parts of each question chosen. There are 18 marks for each question. There are four additional marks on the paper for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG). Question 1 Religion and Animal Rights Look at the photograph below, which shows a person shopping for vegetables. 0 1 Explain briefly what is meant by the term vegan. (2 marks) 0 2 Give two reasons why animals can make good companions for people. (2 marks) 0 3 Religious believers should not support the cloning of animals. 0 4 Explain religious attitudes to the different methods of farming animals. Refer to religious beliefs and teachings in your answer. (5 marks) 0 5 There is nothing wrong with religious believers hunting animals.

3 Question 2 Religion and Planet Earth Look at the photograph below, which shows a natural habitat. 0 6 Give two ways in which people destroy natural habitats. (2 marks) 0 7 Explain briefly what is meant by acid rain. (2 marks) 0 8 Religious believers do not need to be concerned about climate change. 0 9 Explain religious beliefs about the origins of life on Earth. 4 Question 3 Religion and Prejudice Look at the photograph below. 1 1 Give two ways in which religious groups may oppose racism. (2 marks) 1 2 Explain briefly what is meant by tolerance of others. (2 marks) 1 3 Religious people should never show prejudice to those who have lifestyles different from their own. 1 4 Explain religious beliefs and teachings about discrimination. (5 marks) 1 5 Religious believers can do little to bring about harmony in society.

5 Question 4 Religion and Early Life Look at the photograph below, which shows parents with their child. 1 6 Give two reasons why some religious couples choose to have children. (2 marks) 1 7 Explain briefly what is meant by the term Pro-Choice. (2 marks) 1 8 Religious believers are wrong to oppose abortion if it is likely that the baby will have a poor quality of life. 1 9 Explain why some religious people believe that abortion is always wrong. 7 Question 6 Religion and Young People Look at the photograph below, which shows children at a faith school in India. 2 6 Give two reasons why some parents choose to send their children to a faith school. (2 marks) 2 7 Explain briefly what is meant by the term secular society. (2 marks) 2 8 Following a religion limits a young person s freedom of choice. 2 9 Explain the benefits for young people of belonging to a religion. You may use examples in your answer.
