Special Events, Small Groups and Weekly Bible Studies at Trinity Fall, 2019

What comes to mind when you hear the word idolatry? Little statues? Golden calves? Those are some obvious examples, but let s be honest. How many of us are really tempted to turn to statues and calves for meaning and fulfillment? The truth of the matter is that all of us are guilty of idolatries that are very nuanced and subtle, with idols that sneak up on us with the potential to drag us down and destroy us. In this year s retreat, we will explore sections of Tim Keller s book Counterfeit Gods - where we will discover the attraction and addiction of idols, and discover ways in which we can recover from them and rid ourselves of them. Each participant will receive a copy (included in the cost of registration.) As is the case with all of our past retreats, throughout the weekend, we will take time for the things we like, including golf, kayaking, shooting clays, pheasant hunting, fishing, biking, hiking, or just hanging out together. Not into any of those things? No problem! The retreat offers a great setting for you to rest, read, sleep, or play board games. The best part is being around other guys in exploring God s Word and you may start a new friendship or two! Trinity s Men s Retreat is ALWAYS a good time, and we hope you will join us.

This is Trinity s 7th annual men s retreat, all of which have been held at the Tree of Life retreat in Greenbush. Owned and operated by St. John Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Plymouth, the Tree of Life offers us an incredible venue in the heart of the Kettle Moraine, with Long Lake, the Highlands Sportsmen s Club, and Quit Qui Oc Golf Course each only short drives away. Plus we have Lyle Alft offering archery, and Caleb Niedfeldt from Fishing for the Heart leading fishing expeditions at a nearby lake. WE VE LOWERED REGISTRATION TO $125! Costs for fishing, golfing, and shooting at the Highlands are all extra costs to be paid at their various locations. Caleb charges $50 for a 3 hours fishing experience, which includes all equipment. Trinity s men s retreats have three main objectives: 1) For men to grow as individuals in their relationship with God; 2) For men to develop and strengthen their friendships with other Christian men; 3) For men to develop mentoring relationships with young men a generation or more removed from them, encouraging them in the faith and modeling for them how to live as disciples of Christ. To encourage this, men are encouraged to bring their teenage sons for only $25. We seek to accomplish these goals through outdoor activities like hunting, kayaking fishing, golfing, hiking, or biking while we eat and fellowship with one another within the retreat, and especially as we open God s Word together in our Bible studies and worship and prayer time.

Join Us for Trinity s 14th Annual Going Back to Sacred Marriage Gary Thomas is perhaps the best author on Christian marriage out there. And when you find the best resource out there to engage and educate Christian spouses on what marriage really is, you use it. For that reason, we are cycling back to a book we ve used in previous retreats Sacred Marriage. Everything about your marriage everything from the history you and our spouse create, to the love you share, to the forgiveness you both offer and seek by turn is filled with the capacity to help you grown in Christ s character. This retreat will equip you to love God more passionately, reflect the nature of FRIDAY-SATURDAY-SUNDAY NOVEMBER 2-4, 2018 His Son more precisely, and fulfill God s overarching purpose for your marriage. Whatever season of marriage you are in, the sessions we explore during this retreat will give you the practical help you need to infuse your marriage with a spiritual passion that will not only change you but will change the world around you. Door County in Autumn Door County in the fall offers some spectacular opportunities for site-seeing, hiking, biking, shopping, or golfing. Then there are the wineries, the lighthouses, and the restaurants. Plus, the Scandinavian Lodge offers great amenities including an indoor pool and hot tub, a workout room, and luxurious suites. Copies of the book are available here at Trinity in the SISTER BAY, WI church office and in the Schedler Resource Center for $10.00. A Kindle download is also available online for $11. Your experience and understanding of each session will be greatly enhanced if you come to the retreat having read the book. There is a Friday evening wine & cheese tasting and continental breakfasts are provided on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Lunches and dinners are on your own. Door County s restaurants are exceptional! While there is no registration fee for the retreat, each couple s other expenses will be the two nights lodging at the Scandinavian ($104 -$124 per night, depending on your room choice) and the cost of the book. If you have the book from previous retreats, please bring your copy. Everyone should also bring a Bible.

Sunday Mornings 9:15-10:25 In the Gymnasium BEGNNING SEPTEMBER 16 TH

What is T 3? T 3 is Trinity Time Together. It's a time for all of Trinity s members and friends to grow in God s Word together, including young and old, men and women from every age and stage of life. It s also a time for real Christian fellowship, where we can celebrate our oneness as brothers and sisters in Christ. There s music, games, skits, and plenty of great conversation across the generations. The best part is that God s Word is the centerpiece of everything we do during T3. How does T 3 work? Every Sunday from 9:15 to 10:25 a.m., adults, teens, and children all gather together in the gymnasium. Some of our time will be spent divided into age groups so that we can receive age appropriate teaching, but much of our time will be spent together in conversation about the Word of God we have studied. T 3 is a time for us to learn God s Word and also to share it with one another as we share life experiences where we have seen God at work in our lives. Our First Few Weeks... We will start the year with an exploration of how we spend our time. Based on the Randy Frazee book Making Room for Life, Pastor Carl will lead a series of discussions on ways you can gain better control of the hours of your week. Throughout the year, we will also be looking at Jesus I Am statements ( I am the Bread of Life, I am the Good Shepherd, etc. Finally, we will conclude the year with a study of the book of Ephesians. Breakout Lessons for Children and Youth Beginning this year, children and youth between the grades of 3K through 8th grade will begin a journey through the Scriptures using the Kingdom Quest and Concordia Publishing House s Cross Explorations curriculum. This year will begin with Creation, and our lessons through the year will take us Genesis and Exodus, culminating with Moses leading the Children of Israel out of Egypt toward the Promised Land. As you arrive each Sunday, take time to enjoy refreshments and snacks as you get to know your fellow members of Trinity.

Sunday Morning Bible Study Led by Brian & Joanie Forke Science/Art Room, 9:15-10:25 a.m. Begins September 16th

Making Room for Life Led by Brian and Angela Axtman Hosted by Dan and Ginny Jagla (8101 W. Bonniwell Road, Mequon) Every other Sunday Evening 6:00-7:30p.m. - starts September 23rd What if you could get all your work done by 6:00 p.m.? Eat dinner with your family every night? Form deep, satisfying relationships? Naturally blend the world of church with your everyday life? Spend hours a week on your hobbies? In this book study, author Randy Frazee (The Story) reveals how to make all of these things a reality. Not by working faster or having more gadgets, but by simply choosing a lifestyle of conversation, and community over accumulation. It s a way of living that we were all created to enjoy. This book study shows you how and why it's so important to balance work and play, establish healthy boundaries, deal with children's activities and homework, bring Jesus to your neighbors, and build authentic bonds with a circle of close friends. In the midst of the chaos and fragmentation of today's culture, God can turn your relationships into communities of purpose and peace.

Every other Sunday Evening, 6:30 p.m. beginning September 23rd Led and hosted by Fred & Cindy Mollwitz 9827 N. Melrose Court Mequon Tim Keller, (author of Prodigal God) has created this eight-week video-based study of the Gospel and how to live it out in everyday life. In our first session we will study the city, our home now, the world that is. Week eight closes with the theme of the eternal city, our heavenly home, the world that is to come. In between we'll learn how the gospel can change our hearts, your community, and how we live in this world. Each participant will receive a Gospel in Life Participant's Guide, which we will use in our group discussions. Gospel in Life session titles: Session 1, City-The World That Is Session 2, Heart-Three Ways to Live Session 3, Idolatry-The Sin Beneath Session 4, Community-The Context for Change Session 5, Witness-An Alternate City Session 6, Work-Cultivating the Garden Session 7, Justice-A People for Others Session 8, Eternity-The World That Is To Come

Led by Lisa Mudge THURSDAY EVENINGS, 6:30 P.M. UPPER LEVEL CONFERENCE ROOM Join Lisa and her group on Thursday evenings as they explore the second half of Paul s letter to the Romans, a study we initiated last year throughout the congregation. In the latter half of Romans, Paul reminds us that we are children of the promise through faith in Christ; that through faith, Gentiles have been grafted in to the status of God s chosen people of Israel; and that we are now to offer our very selves as living sacrifices to God, holy and pleasing to him. Lisa s group meets in the lower level conference room, located in the hallway leading up to the lower grade classroom building.

7:00 a.m. in the Gathering Room Led by Rick Adams Week in and week out, Trinity s Saturday Morning Men s Bible Study has been going strong for over 25 years. This is a very laid back group of guys, united by a desire to remain in God s Word and to grow in our faith and love for the Lord. Over the past few years, we ve studied Daniel, Amos, Job, Romans, Acts, and the life of David (1 and 2 Samuel) just to name a few. Most recently, we ve been in the New Testament book of Hebrews, and are about to begin a new study (yet to be determined.) Please join us! You don t need to be an expert. If you ve never been in a study of any part of the Bible, and you d like to try one that has no expectations of reading or answering questions out loud, this is for you. We always have room for more. Enjoy good coffee, some breakfast treats, and get your weekend off to the best possible start.
