Footnotes from Fr. Mark This week is a chance to give an overview of some of the things that have happened during the summer, and to get you up to date on what is going on here in the parish. As you are well aware of, we had three priest move in the parish and two move out. Fr. Jerome has gone to St. Mary Nativity and Holy Cross in Joliet where he is now the pastor and has been installed. Fr. Michael has moved and is now presently at St. Patrick in Joliet as the temporary administrator before he moves to Rome to begin his course work in preparation for his future work in the church. Fr. Michal moved in July 13th and now with us as the Parochial Vicar or Associate Pastor. He is adjusting very nicely, and you will see him getting more involved in parish life in the upcoming days. Fr. Raj move in the first week of July and he is a retired priest serving us here at St. Matthew. Fr. Raj will also help out in some of our neighboring parishes, but his first and primary responsibility will be here at St. Matthew. I moved in June 20th, and it has been quite an eventful couple of months. As I told you I moved into the flood of the basement of the rectory. This was the 2nd of 3 times that the rectory basement flooded during the rainy season of June, July and August here at St. Matthew. Because of the rains here, we had the Diocesan Officials here at the parish and they helped us with a new complete survey of the parish grounds. This has helped us to put into place a beginning of a new drainage plan around the rectory, which so far has helped to keep us dry. Also this plan has helped us to identify a drainage issue by the school. They are also helping us to remove the mobile unit on the back side of the school in the near future, and we then can plan to upgrade the drainage in the area where the mobile unit was for the many years. We also have had some issues we have had to look at in regards to repairs to the facility. We have in the office building repaired and replaced some of the plumbing in the Tasker Center which was not replaced since the building of the building in the 1960 s. Along with that we have identified a sinkhole in the North parking lot which we are in the process of getting repaired. Along with the sinkhole we have identified some issues with the drainage system which runs along our property line on the east side of the property. We are also finishing that project in the immediate future and also waiting on a quote to clean out that entire drainage line so that it will be clear on our property and will also allow for improved drainage into the village storm drainage system. With this project we have also detected that a gas line which was installed a few years ago that runs from the Tasker Center to the main gas line is sinking so we are getting that repaired so as to remove any possible danger in the near future. In the school we have finished the roof repairs and have made the usual summer cleaning and repairs to the school so that it will be ready for the school year, which has already begun and the school is off to a good two week start. As you are also aware that we have a couple of bats in the church. The service that is assisting in the capture and release of the bats are working as well as sealing all possible areas where the bats might return. Hopefully that will be finished this week or next week at the latest. We have had the roofs repaired in the gym and the church. Also the doors marked #3, outside the gym are being replaced due to the fact that they are old and we are no longer able to adequately secure them if we need to adjust them once again. This project should be completed in the first week of October. There is a new sidewalk connecting the door by the choir and the Tasker Center that is able to be used now and going forward. A special word of thanks to the IMPACT teens who helped paint a fence we needed to put up to enclose our gas meters, along with cleaning the garage by the rectory so that all of the priests cars now fit in the garage. Also to the Knights for their work in helping to move all of the priests in as well. There are other projects that have been completed as well. They include the completion of a project started by Fr. Jerome in regard to the repair of the 1st floor of the Tasker Center, the completion of the installation of the new tabernacle in the church. To clear up some information regarding the tabernacle, that entire project was paid for by donations and no parish money was used for the tabernacle project. Also we have cleaned and rearranged the Narthex in the church so that there is more space for gathering after Mass. As for the parish family, we have once again instituted the reception of both species at Mass, have encouraged the parish family to gather for different events, and look forward to the celebration of the Feast of St. Matthew next weekend. I am sure I am missing so many other events that have taken place, and yet none of this takes place without you the faithful people of our parish of St. Matthew. I thank you for your generous spirit, your faithfulness to our parish, to our Catholic Faith and to our God. I promise to continue to walk with you on our journey as a parish family and to each and every one of your stories as a treasured gift that will be respected and honored always. We have been a strong vibrant community for over 55 years and we will continue to be a Beacon of God s Love and Light in the community of Glendale Heights for many years to come. Next weekend we celebrate the Feast of St. Matthew, please plan on joining us for that day and Fest on the 16th. Please see the bulletin and listen to the announcements for more information. Next week in the Footnotes will be more about the Parish. Fr. Mark
