RBC Youth Worker Job Description 1 JOB DESCRIPTION: YOUTH WORKER Rushmere Baptist Church, The Street, Rushmere St Andrew, Ipswich Suffolk Part time 22 ½ hours /week 3 year fixed term contract subject to review Primarily with 11-18 yr age group school years 7-13 JOB PURPOSE Act under the sovereignty of God, to minister Christ s love and instruction, enabled by His Holy Spirit, to introduce Young People to a personal faith in Christ and to lead and affirm them in the Christian faith. ACCOUNTABILITY To the Minister and Church Leadership Team MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY To take a strategic lead of the Youth Work at Rushmere Baptist Church under the direction of the Minister and Church Leadership Team. The role is primarily working with the 11-18 year old age group. Lead, train and mentor existing and future volunteer youth leaders and helpers. Seek to meet demand for further leaders in conjunction with the Minister and Children s and Youth Work Coordinator. Build quality relationships with the church s existing young people and newcomers and adopt pastoral oversight for their wellbeing and spiritual development. Grasp a vision for, plan, implement and enable a programme of ongoing discipleship of young people linking where appropriate to adult and children s co-incidental programmes and direction set by Minister and Leadership Team. Actively seek opportunities for evangelism among young people within a defined target area (demographic, geographic or other criteria). Encourage and enable Christian Young People in the

Encourage and enable young people to play a wider role in Rushmere Baptist Church with a view to eventual transition to adult membership once declaring their personal faith. Seek out opportunities and release them into leadership within the wider church.. Participate and or lead/take responsibility for extra-curricular and residential events organised for young people such as Spree, Soul Survivor, New Day, Church Big Day Out, RBC Church weekend (booked for Sept 2017) where agreed participation as a church or youth work has been decided. Build relationships where possible with parents and guardians of young people in contact with the Church, building bridges into the community. Instigate personal regular prayer for the Youth Work and individual young people encouraging corporate prayer for the work within the church at services, prayer meetings and members meetings. Make use of communication and media opportunities including new media to promote events, the ongoing Youth Work of the Church and as a tool to reach a wider audience pertinent to the vision, strategy and direction of Rushmere Baptist Church s youth work programme (the Church website authors and Facebook controllers will assist technically with this). Engage with and co-operate with other youth groups in the area building relationships and networking with Youth Leaders and Youth organisations such as Christian Youth Ministries, Ipswich. EXPECTATIONS Follow safeguarding policies of the Church currently embodied in the Safe to Grow document adopted by the church. Be visible in Rushmere Baptist Church, present in adult worship and teaching services and events. Become a committed church member with attendant responsibilities within the wider church commensurate with building relationships and supporting the wider ministry as a church officer. Take a pro-active approach to personal development to enhance your ministry and seek further training and revision / refreshment opportunities by agreement with the Minister and Leadership team. Be a role model for volunteer leaders and helpers as well as for young people with standards of conduct and lifestyle that honour the values and qualification for Rushmere Baptist Church membership and bring glory to Christ our ultimate role model. RBC Youth Worker Job Description 3 PERSON SPECIFICATION You will be a skilled and enthusiastic communicator looking for a role to serve God in Christian Youth Work in a church setting. Your personal faith, passion for Christ and a heart for young people to meet Jesus and to lead them to a life transforming encounter with God will be your motivation. Equipped by formal training and qualifications and / or demonstrable experience in Christian Youth Work you will be seeking to fulfil a calling from God to serve in a pastoral, and leadership role with Young People in the local church. You will be comfortable with the principles and practice of evangelical Christianity as expressed in the Baptist denomination including baptism by immersion and the outworking of the Holy Spirit as Christ s agent and enabling power in the church and in individuals experience of God. There will be opportunities for the successful candidate to be involved in taking services and participating in relevant services including preaching opportunities if that is within their gifting. You will love life and the world and people that God has created with a sense of fun and adventure, your infectious enthusiasm will be evident. Be competent with Information Technology and commonly used office software and communication methods. Have a sense of financial responsibility and accountability for the funds, given as love gifts for the work of the church, for any project or area of expense incurred in the youth programme.

RBC Youth Worker Job Description 4 KEY COMPETENCES In order to fulfil the spiritual and temporal roles of the post candidates will need to demonstrate how they have done this under the broad headings of competence below. Simple examples of how you have met these competences in Christian Youth work / church service will be required. Leading and communicating Delivering a strategic programme Relationship building Team work Developing capability in others MAIN TERMS AND CONDITIONS Salary Hours of work Holiday: Pension Probation Safeguarding provision 14,100 per annum ( 23,500 FTE) 22 ½ hours a week. The post requires a degree of flexibility regarding working hours which will be agreed mutually with the Minister. It is envisaged that this role will be spread over 3 days each week; Sunday will be regarded as a normal working day although not necessarily for the whole of the day, and some evening work will be required. At least one whole day per week will be reserved as a rest day. 15 days per year (5 weeks pro rata) in addition to recognised statutory and bank holidays Auto enrolment to NEST scheme after 3 months employment The post will be subject to a six month probationary period before confirmation of permanent appointment for the term of the contract. Annual reviews (at 12 months, 24 months and 36 months service) will be undertaken. It is our policy to check all staff, paid and unpaid, for suitability to work with children and young people. We will undertake an enhanced DBS check and ask for references one of which must be from your current or most recent employer.
