Greeter Judy Benjamin Ushers Deanna Clark Pat Heran Greer Ward Bunnie Lynn Acolyte Landri Bennett Gathering Words WE GATHER TO PRAISE Let us now prepare our hearts and minds to worship God. One: The Lord be with you. ALL: And also with you. Welcome & Announcements Rev. Alan Dyer Welcome to worship at St. Simons Presbyterian Church. During the announcements please take a moment to sign and pass the friendship register located at the end of the pew. As you enter the sanctuary, please silence your cell phones. All children are welcome in worship. If you prefer, a nursery (located in the children s hall at the rear of the church) is available for children from birth to five years. Worship resources for children are available at the sanctuary entrances. Prelude A Tune for the Oboe Amy Bishop, Organist G. Martin Christian worship joyfully ascribes all praise and honor, glory and power to the triune God. In worship the people of God acknowledge God present in the world and in their lives. As they respond to God s claim and redemptive action in Jesus Christ, believers are transformed and renewed. In worship the faithful offer themselves to God and are equipped for God s service in the world. *Call to Worship Judy Benjamin One: We rejoice in the One who leads us beside still waters, ALL: and gives us refreshment of soul. One: Christ our Shepherd shows us the way we should go, ALL: so that the name of God will be glorified. One: Though all manner of evil befall us, we will not be afraid, ALL: for the Great Shepherd of our souls is with us. One: We are never away from the love and mercy of the Lord, ALL: and we shall be with him for ever and ever. Amen! * Please stand if able. *Opening Hymn 321 The Church s One Foundation aurelia

*Prayer of Confession (All) Silence for Personal Confession In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen. Nat Scott Merciful God, in your gracious presence we confess our sin and the sin of this world. Although Christ is among us as our peace, we are a people divided against ourselves as we cling to the values of a broken world. The profit and pleasures we pursue lay waste the land and pollute the seas. The fears and jealousies that we harbor set neighbor against neighbor and nation against nation. We abuse your good gifts of imagination and freedom, of intellect and reason, and have turned them into bonds of oppression. Lord, have mercy upon us; heal and forgive us. Set us free to serve you in the world as agents of your reconciling love in Jesus Christ. *Assurance of Pardon *Gloria Patri h.w. greatorex Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. WE SHARE OUR LIFE & GIFTS Minute for Mission Fall Craft Week in Montreat Nat Scott Joys and Concerns of the Church Prayer of Thanksgiving and the Lord s Prayer (All) Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. Prayer is easier than we think. Prayer was always meant to be part of our everyday lives, part of our bodies, part of all our actions. It does not mean that we are to be solemn and unsmiling as we act sacramentally through our bodies. A sacrament, whether in the church or out of it, is meant to make us more fully human, not less. -Flora Slosson Wuellner

As we offer our gifts, we praise God for letting us have use of all the resources the Lord has provided and the opportunity to serve on God s behalf. The Doxology is an ancient chorus of praise with a vision of join all the created beings of all times and places who forever sing praise to God. Offertory *Prayer of Dedication The Love of the Lord Ann Nermoe, Soloist; Rhonda Hambright, Pianist Joncas *Doxology old hundredth Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. WE PROCLAIM GOD S WORD Word for Children All children please come forward at the pastor s invitation. Following the Word for Children, children Preschool-2nd grade may leave for KidZ Worship. Old Testament Lesson Psalm 23 Page 862 OT Judy Benjamin One: This is the Word of the Lord. ALL: Thanks be to God. New Testament Lesson Mark 6:30-34, 53-56 Page 1562 NT Prayer for Illumination Sermon Rev. Alan Dyer

*Affirmation of Faith (All) A Brief Statement of Faith In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God s new heaven and new earth, praying, Come, Lord Jesus! With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. WE GO FORTH TO SERVE *Hymn of Dedication 310 st. thomas I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord *Benediction Postlude Trumpets Call Amy Bishop, Organist G. Martin What are you taking from worship? A new thought, a deep feeling, a glimpse of grace, a challenge? Where will you see God today? A hope or a prayer for the week? If You Are New Here. Whether you are visiting from out-of-town, a seasonal resident, or searching for a church home, we are delighted that you are worshiping with us today. If you are interested in receiving more information about membership or the ministries of our congregation, please indicate that on the Friendship Register as it is passed down your pew at the beginning of worship so that we can be in touch with you soon. If You Are in Need of Prayer. You may fill out a prayer request card (available in the pews) and place it in the offering plate or hand it to an usher. To Aid in Worship. Summer Sunday School Sundays @ 9 AM in the Social Hall Breakfast & coffee served. July 22 - August 22 Judaism in the Time of Jesus Join us for an insightful four-week study that will explore some of the different perspectives of everyday Jewish believers at the time Jesus was living and teaching in ancient Palestine. This course will be led by Rabbi Rachael Bregman from the Temple Beth Tifilloh in Brunswick. Sunday, July 29: Law (Sanhedrin/Jewish Court) Pharisees, Sadducees-who is who and what did each group believe? What were the political issues which undergirded the fight between Jesus and the Rabbinic Court (Sanhedrin)? Sunday, August 5: Where do you go to Church? In the time of Jesus you had Jews, pagans, gentiles and converts. What difference did these categories make and how were they understood in the establishment of early Christianity? Sunday, August 12: Thinkers Whether you watch MSNBC, Fox News or The Onion, we are influenced by the talking heads of our day. What did the thought leaders of Jesus time talk about and what impact might they have had? CHURCH OFFICER NOMINATION On a continuing basis there are three classes each of Elders, Deacons, and Trustees serving the church in various capacities. Each year one class completes its three-year term and another class is elected. The Nominating Committee is responsible for prayerfully discerning nominees for the new term. An important part of this process is to give all members of the congregation the opportunity to suggest names of men and women considered qualified for service. Please remember that suggesting an individual does not automatically mean that they will be nominated. The Nominating Committee has the responsibility of developing a final list of nominees who will be presented for congregational approval. Nominating Committee: Anna Henry Nancy Harper Rich Goeldner Tom Baltzell Ann Nermoe Fleming Martin Jerry Spencer The Officer Nomination Form, which can be found online, provides information about the offices of Elder and Deacon and space for names you would like to suggest.. Also provided is space for comments about the reasons for your suggestions your comments can be very helpful. You are encouraged to nominate yourself if you feel led to serve as Elder or Deacon. Please also pay special attention to and consideration of those members who have not previously served as an officer. We don t want to miss the opportunity to identify potential new leaders in the church!
